You're a bit off with the "phones" part. Sideloading doesn't let someone download and install apps on your phone; it just means you can install unvetted apps. It's all about freedom. It’s not to say there isn’t any risk, but you're making it sound worse than it is.
Did you put in your google or apple account when you set up your phone? Youre wearing a GPS watch, sitting on windows 11. Yet talk about tracking etc, it makes no sense when they probably already know everything about you. (AD WISE) Also Sideloading doesn't mean anyone can load an app on you're phone. Apple dose allow sideloading as well because we the CONSUMER should make the choice not a company. All you had to do was download an app and activate your action cam. Then you have a warranty straight from the app and can also send off for repairs if needed. Lastly all the millions of DJI DRONE users have been using this app for 5+ years now with no issues no ransom or scam. All you had to do was have a quick google to see. Hope you get to use the Osmo more its really good especially for the price.
Totally this. I'll bet Amazon have already harvested his details and passed them to numerous companies, while his Mobile phone used its mic to listen to him and target specific adds on TH-cam. I get that its unscrupulous, but its tough to avoid these days.
That makes about as much sense as saying, because you are wearing a baseball cap the wrong way around you shouldn't wear sunglasses. GPS doesn't need personal identification, it just needs a receiver, and there isn't a windows version in history (so far) that cannot be used without registering, if you have the know-how.
But you are happy enough to give Google an open book to your data , how else did you manage to create a TH-cam account , and Monetise that account, hell Google even asks for your Tax number details . but you cant or wont download a simple app that makes warranty claims easy, gives you new features through firmware updates etc .

Looking forward to hearing your 6 month review.
100% right, this SHOULD be illegal!
I'd return it on principal - sure they might not care, but if u do it.. and I don't buy... and enough of us don't put up with this.... MAYBE ... MAYBE they'll get the message.
wishfull thinking maybe.... but .. ya know.. every journey.. blah blahh single step etc etc
Yeah, you're dreaming.
This is clickbait - not ransomeware… i don’t see you returning your phone… you had to have an account for that too… it’s called theft protection
Wow, send it back, that is crazy
People whining about DJI are also using Google lmao. Everyone thinks they are James Bond or something, who do you think could actually reach you?
Your government or the CCP?

I just purchased the Action 5 Pro over the holidays and love it. You’re creating a monster and wasting time. What was accomplished?
N'oubliez pas d'aller dans les cimetières pour vous filmer : 666 ⁶⁶⁶🎅👌
Thanks Steve for the Heads-up ! 😊
Unfortunately, but, luckily this happened to You . An Individual who is well versed in IT, and able to identify the Pitfalls of the Situation . Most People would have probably fallen right into the Trap !
Hopefully, this Video goes viral, and serves as a wonderful PSA .
I say "Use It, abuse It, & send It back !" . Maybe if Amazon gets a bunch of Returns, they'll investigate the Situation, & put an End to this unscrupulous Practice .
Cheers ✌️ 🤘

Get rid of google and youtube too while you're at it.
Thanks for the video. I'm actually interested in buying that camera. I have a bunch of old android phones laying around. I guess I'll just use one of those. This kind of stuff pisses me off but It's so normalized that I feel like if I don't just side step it and get on with my life I won't be able to use any technology at all. Cheers! Thanks again.
lol you have to go with the times, sir.
Send it Back.
Turn away now 🎉
Get rid of it.
You could pass for a "Miguel" :D
If it ultimately works well for you at namm, I would keep it. They are a very high end product. You might take a few days to cool off from the frustration of what you went thru but if the image quality meets or exceeds expectations, keep it. You might end up liking it. FYI, I would rather have a Gopro action camera and keep flying dji drones. My 2 cents
