Her mentors are Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, Whitney Houston, Adele,
    I’m sure there are others!

Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! This history-making performance is as unnerving as it is magnificent!! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (170+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice!
If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40-piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come.
Why God has performed the miracle of touching the world with one of such talent, musical IQ, commitment, and generosity as Angelina we can wonder but we must all marvel. Welcome aboard the AJ train! Please react to more of her impressive library. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). You are not alone with the idea of a jazz club. The judges of Norway's Got Talent already had this impression: "This girl sounds as if she was drinking whiskey since she was born" 🙂 - and she was 7yo back then.
The name of the woman you asked about is Billie Holiday - her career actually began in the 1930s, but her greatest success came in the 1940s. She was born in 1915 and was actually around 30 years old at the time. And in fact, she began her career as a singer in nightclubs in Harlem. I don't know about her cigar consumption, but excessive alcohol consumption was one of the reasons for her early death - largely the same as that of Amy Whinehouse, to whom Angelina is also often compared stylistically.
But demons aside, Billie Holiday made a significant contribution to jazz music and pop singing, and that's what you'll hear between the lines of this jazzy rendition of Jay Hawkins' classic shock rock song. Billie's vocal style, heavily influenced by jazz instrumentalists, inspired a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. She was known for her vocal performance and improvisation skills and that's exactly what Angelina Jordan is known for today.
Angelina draws inspiration from both the past and present, but is deeply rooted in jazz. On this basis, she developed her own style very early on - at the age of 18 she already had a ten-year career behind her and it will be exciting to see what will happen when she is actually 30 years old.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. The spoken language is Norwegian: th-cam.com/video/80f3t3dmBbk/w-d-xo.html

We are living through very difficult times with technology, population and climate change accelerating too quickly. We can't keep up. Thankfully, Angelina provides relief from all the noise, by providing music which comforts us. She has inspired me and many others to spread her message of kindness and love. I am confident more will join the cause. Here is the list of her 13 originals to date.
"What is Life" first sung at age 11. We don't know how old she was when she wrote each song. Age presented is her age when she first sang it.
    "Oslo" age 11
    "Shield" age 12
"Million Miles" age 14 we know she wrote this one in the days after her maternal grandfather passed in 2019 when she was 13
    "7th Heaven" age 15
"Love Don't Let Me Go" age 17
"Now I'm the Fool" age 17
    "Fire and Rain" age 17
"It's All My Fault" age 17
    "Good in Goodbyes" age 17
    "Diamond" age 17
    "Our Time" age 17
"Princess of Ruins" age 18 ..... only performed at her 2 shows in Las Vegas 2/29/24
Should include songs for which she was the first to sing
"I'm Still Holding Out for You" age 10 .... considered one of her best vocal performances by many
    "Song for A" age 12
"Above the Water" a EDM song released near her 14th birthday
"We're the Best" sung with RedOne at the FIFA Awards February 27, 2023
Angelina wrote new lyrics for two famous songs by Amy Winehouse, "Back to Black" and "Rehab" since it was inappropriate for a preteen to sing the original lyrics. For "Back to Black" Angelina wrote the new lyrics in the 24 hours prior to the recording, then needed just two takes.

Haha, yeah, if a first time listener doesn't have at least one authentic what-the-heck moment on this cover like you did at 4:05, for example, then you're just not paying attention. I lost track long ago of the number of times I've seen this one, and it still blows me away. Just the fact that a 9 year old listens to and likes this 1950s Screaming Jay Hawkins classic is awesome. But then she decides to arrange her own rendition of it and is a great enough singer at 9 that a super tight jazz quintet wants to back her? Craziness, right? And she has the class even at that young age to pay tribute to Hawkins by holding up that candle with his likeness at 1:06. Calling Angelina otherworldly is not an overstatement.

This is still my favorite version of this song, even including Screamin' Jay Hawkins' original. Angelina was 9 here; unbelievable, right? A few slips of the tongue are understandable, but a great reaction. I love the tenor break, so I appreciated your calling it out. Great reaction!

Hi, nice that you took a little look down Angelina's rabbit hole. She was 9 years old when she heard this song and she arranged it herself based on the original by Screaming Jay Hawkins from 1956. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 with songs by Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and the song Summertime. You are at the very beginning and I hope that you embark on the further journey because there is a lot to discover, she is the best singer in the world in my opinion) but you will find out for yourself and believe me, you are just as addicted to her voice as all other fans (Angels), she is also called the barefoot angel with the 1000 voices, why she always performs barefoot is another story, she can adapt and improve her voice to any song and also convey a lot of emotions and she has not only around 200 covers but also 14 originals written by her and 2 written for her, all of which are amazing and even now legendary and there is a lot to tell, I look forward to further reactions and have now subscribed to you, greetings from Germany, by the way she is now 18 years old.

Thanks for the beautiful reaction, this song is one of the important steps to understand the singularity of Angelina's talent. It's unreal like her, from a very young person, she choice to use her incredible passion and understanding through music in a splendid way, especially for these legendary songs. She is definitely the only 9-year-old girl who understands and has the courage and the ability to sing this song from Screaming' Jay, so imbued with his power, and reorganize it according to her musical sensibility and vision. I sincerely believe that this it's the most beautiful version of this song, over 60 years since it was written and there are much of versions of it, also interpreted by great singers.💛🧡❤

By the way, her performance of Bohemian Rhapsody when she was 13 years old wasn’t an audition. She was invited to take part in AGT The Champions where winners of Got Talent from around the World compete. Angelina was the winner of Norway’s Got Talent in 2014 when she was 8 years old.

Thank you for featuring Angelina again. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on TH-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
This is Angelina's tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
    (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
    (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
    (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
    (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
    (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
    (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
    (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
    (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
    (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
    (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
    (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
    (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

For more information on Angelina’s history, see Angelina Jordan’s Wikipedia Page - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelina_Jordan
Below is a list of my recommendations for doing reactions to Angelina Jordan.
    1. For the initial shock you should start with ‘I Put A Spell On You’ She was 9 years old when she did this. The link for this song is - th-cam.com/video/nwFloCPXzCs/w-d-xo.html
    2. The next song you should react to is an Elvis cover ‘Suspicious Minds’ - th-cam.com/video/RTbKhkceR00/w-d-xo.html - this will show you how her voice and presence has developed.
    3. To follow her growth react to the following songs in order:
At age 6 - ‘I Who Have Nothing’ her first time in a studio - th-cam.com/video/RjQZKBpVaes/w-d-xo.html
    At age 7 - 8; Norway's Got Talent - th-cam.com/video/d3gSho9yf88/w-d-xo.html
At age 8 ‘What A Difference A Day Makes’ -th-cam.com/video/ZSfgCIGd7k4/w-d-xo.html
    At age 10 ‘Feeling Good’ - th-cam.com/video/p8kAL-sGJx8/w-d-xo.html
At age 11 ‘I’m A Fool To Want You’ - th-cam.com/video/SGx0djXTXQk/w-d-xo.html She also did this during Norway’s Got Talent, but she did it A Capella.
At age 12 There are two songs of note here:
‘Shield’ which is one of her originals - th-cam.com/video/lQtUbVKb0vs/w-d-xo.html
She was invited to perform at Quincy Jones’ 85th birthday in London she sang what is sort of her anthem (she has sung throughout the years many times). This is the rehearsal for the show but it is excellent - th-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/w-d-xo.html
At Age 13 she performed two songs on America’s Got Talent - and one other song of note -
‘I Have Nothing’ is a tribute to Whitney Houston - th-cam.com/video/eTcvvO6B3Io/w-d-xo.html
On AGT ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ for which she got the Golden Buzzer - th-cam.com/video/qF0JV28vgLw/w-d-xo.html
On AGT ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ in the finals - th-cam.com/video/4XOMskgN8w4/w-d-xo.html - but she didn’t win. A lot of people are upset about that, but I think it’s the best thing that happened to her.
At Age 16 she has three new covers.
The newest and the best is an Elvis cover ‘Suspicious Minds’ - th-cam.com/video/RTbKhkceR00/w-d-xo.html
She has released a new version of I Have Nothing - th-cam.com/video/iX0g99jN26U/w-d-xo.html - which is probably the best song she has done so far.
The other is ‘My Funny Valentine - th-cam.com/video/bWiLOnHJYxg/w-d-xo.html
Angelina dropped her latest song on May 5th 2023 it is the first song off her new album which will be out soon. The name of the song is ‘Love Don’t Let Me Go’ - th-cam.com/video/1U6WY_z8Vu8/w-d-xo.html - She wrote the song and in an interview said that all of the songs on the new album will be songs she wrote and had a major part in their arrangements.
The current song that is number 1 on my playlist is Unchanged Melody th-cam.com/video/XxduGSjAJCo/w-d-xo.html , this performance is at the Nobel Piece Prize presentation.
She has done several Adel covers and one other song of note - ‘Million Miles’ - th-cam.com/video/3KxvwuZ7oEM/w-d-xo.html - this is an original that she wrote in honor of her grandfather after he passed away. It is also the first song released under her contract with Republic Records.
Rusty Shackelford has a TH-cam playlist that includes all of her videos, including TikTok and Instagram. I have a playlist of Angelina's videos which is approaching 300,000 views (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.)

As a general rule, when it comes to my subscribing, any 'reactor' who isn't a 'down-right ninny' who at least politely reviews their channel content, I'm IN; particularly when it comes to AJ, I should add.
Therefore, subscribing doesn't mean that I necessarily enjoy the 'reactor' but rather that I always APPRECIATE the 'reactor's' willingness to give 'airtime' to ANGELINA..
Thank you for giving AJ time & airplay. I do wish you would make the time to do a bit of home-work as I feel it would be more rewarding to you in terms of enjoyment/fun! All AJ fans are always up to speed, & there's very little/nothing we don't know when it comes to anything to do with this unique artist...but that's because we're fans and our support
is not shallow...We love & respect both her, as a person, and her gifts.
So, again TY for giving this a listen.🙂👍

Thank you for taking the time to write all that. I love your appreciation for AJ and understand how her fans are so supportive of her journey. Also, I would have to respectfully decline to doing prior research on the artist I react to. I have quickly found that communities of fans love to help share the stories of the great artist I react to. Almost in a way of oral tradition, passing down stories and histories of people. I love the engagement from everyone’s fans and get to feel their first hand passion. As a reactor, I very much so enjoy this aspect of the process. I hope you can understand my disposition. It’s all love.

    Great reaction!
I recommend two things to help your channel analytics and growth.
    1. Please put a link to the original video in your description.
    2. Create a playlist for each singer/group you react to.
