    OH NOOOO!! IT'S WAAAAAAYYYYY SIMPLER THAN ALL THAT. AFTER TAKING OFF THE WINGNUT (CLOCKWISE), GET A 7/8 INCH SOCKET - IT FITS PERFECTLY DOWN OVER THE CONICAL BURR. PRESS DOWNWARD ON IT FIRMLY, TO KEEP THE SOCKET IN CONTACT WITH THE BURR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, AND THEN START RAPPING THE SOCKET WRENCH HANDLE SHARPLY WITH A HAMMER (ALSO CLOCKWISE). IT TOOK ME ABOUT 10 OR 15 RAPS, AND BINGO, THE BURR SUDDENLY LOOSENED AND I COULD TAKE IT OFF WITH MY FINGERS. AND THE PADDLEWHEEL WAS RIGHT UNDERNEATH IT, READY TO BE PULLED OUT AND REPLACED. SOOOOO SIMPLE!

      @robertmazziotti1027 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BTW, THE SOCKET AND SHARP RAPPING WON'T DAMAGE THE BURR, SINCE THIS IS ESSENTIALLY HOW BARATZA DOES IT IN THEIR VIDEO. AND THEY EVEN USE VICE GRIPS TO GRAB THE BURR!

      These are the real instructions for sure. I replaced my upper and lower burr set, paddle, and felt ring quickly using a 7/8ths socket. Mine was loose enough that it unthreaded easily. Video says counterclockwise but yes, these are reverse threaded so turn clockwise. No disassembly required.

    I appreciate the video but so many steps were missing that I found it hard to follow. If anyone else is having trouble, I recommend following the link above to visit the Baratza site for step by step instructions. Between this video and the step-by-step guide, I was able to successfully install the new paddle wheel.

    At 2:40 If it wasn't for the silicon gasket your entire grinder would fill with grounds.
    At 4:00 minutes, The wingnut and conical burr are "reverse threaded". You turn them clockwise to loosen.

    I have a problem with my Baratza Encore.
    I bought the machine second-hand and everything looked fine at first. Then I noticed that the grinder was hardly grinding any beans at the lower speed range and was therefore no longer producing ground coffee.
    I had already ordered the paddle wheel and the felt from you and then the drive shaft and the grindstone directly from Baratza. I then replaced everything according to the instructions. I also recalibrated the grinder according to Baratza's instructions.
    At level 10, virtually no more flour comes out. You can also hear from the grinding noise that the beans are not being ground and are skipping the grinder. The hopper remains full.
    I have no idea where the fault could lie.

      Sorry to hear that. Baratza has a fantastic return policy. I would go with that

    The video isn't perfect, but it was very helpful, especially given i don't have a socket wrench. It at least made the disassembly and reassembly less intimidating for me, and I got my grinder fixed and working after.

    You skipped through a bit of unscrewing and also removing the black circular piece that controls the coarseness. I'm actually having some trouble removing both can you comment?

    Is the paddle wheel "flush" to the surface?
    My paddle wheel seems to have a gap and it gets filled with grinded beans once in a while.

      the white plastic top part of the paddle wheel is nearly flush with the outer black part of the grinder yes

    Way too much work. Take the cover off and see the shaft at the bottom of the motor? Clamp onto it and THEN turn the burr CLOCKWISE. Shouldn't take much and you don't have to take the whole thing apart.

    I appreciate the video, but there is a large gap in the video at about 5:28 that skips what appears to be several steps to take the motor off and disassemble the innards (pardon me for being excessively technical there 🙃) to get to the nut at the bottom of the burr. I ran into a road block when one of the little hex screws in my unit was "pre-stripped" enough that the hex wrench wouldn't bite it. I'll be trying the 7/8" socket trick from @robertmazziotti1027, though. That sounds utterly brilliant.

    • @drinksunbear
      @drinksunbear ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right man, sorry yes I know. Best I can tell if you look around minute 12:50 or so it's the reversal of the operation. Maybe that could help. Sorry I have not gotten around to doing this job since

    • @jonathanmoretz440
      @jonathanmoretz440 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drinksunbear Turns out there wasn't that much missing. Just removing the 4 screws holding the motor assembly to the frame and then 4 screws holding the motor to the gearbox. And they were star drive screws (I need better reading glasses), which explains why I had trouble with one (though oddly the hex wrench worked well for the rest). I used the 7/8" socket trick (see below) with another socket wrench on the bottom nut to get the conical burr off of the shaft. Reassembly went just like the video here, and using that in reverse would work just as you described.
