    Had this happen to my 2013 ford f 150 lariat. Went to a dealership and after receiving a call about a week later my truck was ready for pickup. Went to pick up my truck and was hit for a bill of $1267.00. Was told ignition key lock was bad and had to be replaced also the starter had to be replaced. Wow still in shock!

      When it comes to most column work, a guy most likely needs a real mechanic. But given how Ford uses their center on the key position, a guy might get away with my fix-it. The overarching takeaway is don’t hang any weight from the ignition key as replacing an ignition cylinder is better done with a mechanic’s skill set like mine.

    Sometimes it’s not that key housing it’s the ignition switch on the opposite side will do the same seeing they are connected..

    Just FYI, you can buy a replacement cylinder from ford (Motorcraft SW-6991 for an 09-14 F150). If you have a pair of vernier calipers, it includes instructions in the kit of how to measure your key to get the code, and then assemble using the provided springs and tumblers. A bit intricate, but very easy to do. I just did mine yesterday in less than 30 minutes. Unfortunately for me, it didn't solve my problem of a constant key-in door chime whenever I open the driver door. I'll probably have to tackle the actual ignition switch next, which looks to be really easy.

    I was getting this code also. All I did was remove the ignition lock cylinder and use a screwdriver to push the 4 tabs inward that hold the outer metal ring onto the face so it is a bit tighter. It was loose and this was causing the problem. No need for any new parts.

      Do you mind me asking what it was doing? Our F150 we turn the key and it stays in the cranking position still trying to crank even though it won't and normally that springs back but it doesn't now.

      Different problem this video is when you key to lock cylinder has excessive play which can affect remote start, door chime and in future get worse. You don't want a code set on dash that you know about then you won't be able to see if another code is being set.

I asked one of the guys about this fix that you did, and he said, "I've literally never seen that fix this problem. Not even once"... I feel like I'm banging my head against a wall talking to these service techs. Then they want $169/hr to chase down the problem. SMDH.

      @MinnesotaEric  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexb01909 Same general issue as covered in this video and normally caused by the weight from a bunch of keys on your truck's keyring loosening the lock cylinder over time. Worse case, you need to replace the entire lock cylinder in which case I suggest you bring your truck into your local shop unless you have mechanical skills for steering column work. Best case, swapping out out the key cylinder itself will solve your problems. There are some obscure reasons like faults in the wiring harness or instrument cluster that can cause a no-start, but those issues are uncommon. I suggest you follow my video and begin by dropping off a kew at your local Ford dealer to pin a new key cylinder for you and swapping out your old key cylinder with a new, tighter key cylinder. You can check out this link for a little more information beyond the summary I have provided. www.engine-codes.com/b10f1_ford.html

    • @MinnesotaEric
      @MinnesotaEric  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrandiWL If the engine cranks, but does not fire, you have something else and maybe what I cover in this video going on. You can try wiggling the key upward and forward as you crank the engine, but seemingly, the ECU is giving the starter the command to crank and either you have no fuel, no spark, or are out of time, or some sensor is lying the the ECU. I'd pull codes and go from there.

      @@jaandel1 Replacing the entire lock housing is a much bigger job. The idea behind just replacing the lock cylinder is to save money in the hopes that the lock cylinder itself will tighten up the tolerances so that everything will work properly. At the very least stop carrying anything but the Ford key on that keyring as it is the weight of the extra keys is wearing the lock cylinder out.

    • @MinnesotaEric
      @MinnesotaEric  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have already replaced the key cylinder, can you wiggle the key in the lock and wake everything up intermittently? If so, the lock cyclinder (which is way more involved to replace) is bad. Also take all the weight off of your ignition key and don't carry it on a keyring which is what wears these things out. If wiggling the key in the switch does nothing, I'd look at the ignition switch. See this other guy's video on that since I have not made one coving this. th-cam.com/video/qQvVCyfmKyg/w-d-xo.html
