    As a left handed thrower, it’s kind of tricky to reverse everything in my head but thanks for the tips!! I PR’d at my varsity track meet with a throw of 110’!

    Everybody pay attention to this video. John.. this is your best video yet.. you basically break down and describe the hardest part to teach.. but you do it very well. Of all the videos I have seen on this subject.. this is the best I have seen it broken down and explained. Keeping shoulders level.. being patient.. while standing tall but then dropping down as you rotate to sprint across the ring... it is unreal how hard this is to teach and more so to practice and learn. Despite trying to explain this very concept (and after seeing this I am going to adopt this video in to my teachings) it is near impossible to get kids (high school in my case) to grasp all this. Not that they cant.. just that it is VERY hard to put it all together.. and more so.. consistently. Thank you John for this video. This is the key right here! All the drills, etc.. all leads up to this. As John said elsewhere (forget which video) if you cant get out of the back.. the rest just falls apart. So for all you throwers.. watch this video multiple times, drill it in to your head what John says here. It is the absolute KEY to a good throw. The front is important, the lifting is important, drills.. all important. But mastering this transition over and over.. this is what will set you up for big throws!

    You help a lot. I am 44 years old and still take part in competitions but my technique needs work. I took part in a competition yesterday and threw 45.83M. That is my best this season. I am going to keep this mine the next time trained.

    Hi John.
    I'm a high school discus thrower and I've really struggled with that drop knee. Thanks for your advice.

    Three days ago when watching these professional throws videos, I've come to realize that my coaches got it almost all wrong. These videos are a life saver. Even though I know I'm not at my best mark of throwing discus I can already throw over 30 meters!! This will really improve myself...I am more confident to say that I can reach nationals next year!!

    this makes so much sense its scary....i've advocated similar parts to this movement, but never fully explained the "how to" and the "why". now i can show and tell a lot better. thanks

    Very useful. I train myself at school because I don't have a discuss coach and this helped out a lot✌

    Thx again John, another excellent instructional video. This is e x a c t l y what I've been struggling with, gaining speed yet maintaining balance on the first rotation going over to the sprint.
    Dropping that knee could be the thing I'm so desperately looking for, now I definitely know what to practice next session.

    A slow-motion video analysis of one of your actual throws would make it easier to conceptualize. Thanks.

    Can you elaborate a little bit on keeping a strong hip or as you say "the hip staying under you" as you turn the left foot out of the back? Are you actively flexing your left glute to keep your hip under you or is there something else you think about to work this position? Thanks!

    I don't know but I take jump in first turn please tell me about it

    • @johnbowmandiscus
      @johnbowmandiscus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll have to train yourself to stop jumping into the circle. As your left foot turns out of the back of the circle bend your knees so that you go down into the circle rather than jumping.

    I like your videos I remember you showing middle school kids how to spin it was outside very windy but you simplify things to make it easy to learn. Started spinning last month in both the shot and discus at the age of 67 late bloomer but enjoying it a lot. Thanks,I follow you on instagram also I just posted me doing 240 in the bench @ed_mc1 a new pr.
