    I use regular 4" octagon wall ceramic tiles. Paint them black with a Graffiti paint then paint my mandala using multi surface acrylics then bake them in my oven and the paint is permanent. They have been used daily for 2 years with absolutely no damage. Thank you for the video.

    You can just pierce the inside lip of your coaster with a needle or push pin... all around the edge before you resin. It will make little "resin spikes" into the inner edge of your coaster to help keep that disk from popping out over time. Hope that (maybe) helps. Love this video!!!

    I love how you take a mistake and turn it into a learning opportunity. Thank you for that...and for the time you spend editing your videos so they are enjoyable to watch, easy to follow, and witty. That must be so much work, which makes me a little reluctant to ask for the tutorial on the third coaster. Is it too late for that (7 months after you posted this)? Anyway, I am also wondering if you actually used the gold paint. From what I could tell, you used the bronze only. Thanks!

    Do you think cork coasters would work well for this project? wood the resin adhere well? Would the background paint work well?

    • @TheDottingCenter
      @TheDottingCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no, cork is only good for underneath the coaster where it touches the table. It's way to porous to work. You can buy cork adhesive stickers for the backs of ceramic or wood that you can paint. Wood and ceramic are great for coasters. 🙂

  • @soulkalastudio
    @soulkalastudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A potential reason why this worked is because the paint from the paints created a break from the surface of the silicone, also the dots could have created a raised surface almost like when you apply gel to your nails you score or scratch the surface first so the gel stays. Ofcos, i'm no expert, have no experience in resin, so I could be completely wrong. lol

    This is my opinion but I think the resin stuck to the silicone because it stuck to the paint that is stuck to the silicone. You could reuse the silicone as molds simply by doing a small layer of resin letting that dry, then do the mandala, let that dry and then cover with more resin encapsulating the paint, popping it out when dry. Also be sure to wear gloves and a chemical respirator masks when working with resin, and maybe goggles. Many people get reactions from the toxic fumes during the curing process. Safe to touch when fully cured.

    • @TheDottingCenter
      @TheDottingCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still love those black silicone molds and have used them (mostly because I don’t want to waste them. Wow. What a great comment! Thanks.
      Once they’re fully covered in resin, they can be resigned in the molds for a super thick coat. 👍🏻 I did get some wood for my next batch, though.
      Thank you for the reminder about the respirator. I have a particulate mask, not a chemical respirator so I need to upgrade before my next resin endeavor 😊

    The reason the resin stuck to the silicone is because of the torch! I turned some resin in a silicone mold and could not get them out. I contacted the reason company and for some reason the high heat of the torch makes the resin adhere to the silicone.

    • @TheDottingCenter
      @TheDottingCenter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @tat2urface1

    Lol stuck like the dickens was good! I suspect they worked because the paint acted as a primer, or a medium rather. The paint stuck to the silicone and the resin stuck to the paint. That's just my hypothesis but if they ever to tear apart, I suspect much like a bad divorce, the dots will have to choose a side. some will stay with the resin and some might stay with the silicone, but I expect the resin will win custody of most of them, I think it's a better parent.
