Vic, I’d love to do reviews, but there’s no way I’d do them justice. Just can’t pick out individual notes like some of these other folks. It’d just be a simple good-or-bad if I were to do them… I suppose there’s no harm in trying that, we’ll see.

@@WhiskeyBasket So just try this. Take a sip and see if you like it. If you do, what is it about it that you like, does it remind you of anything. That’s pretty simple. Then if you don’t like it, what is it that is off putting and why? At the very core, this is what it is. As you continue to do it then the better you will pickup notes and be able to pull them out. Also, looking at a flavor wheel once you’ve got a key note… like sweet, then looking at that and seeing is it brown sugar… blah blah blah, and narrowing it down. Some people think that not everyone can do this, but the main reason not everyone can is because it takes practice and time. After a while it becomes easier. Even if you don’t film it, I say you should try it. I have been doing this with a couple of people to help them enjoy pours better and it is working.
@@VicKinikin Well, I can pick maybe 1 or 2, whereas others are picking out a dozen. It doesn’t help that I smoke cigs, which affects my taste and smell. If I really want to taste a whiskey, I brush, gargle with saltwater, etc. Even then I’m at a disadvantage, lol.
The flavor wheel thing is interesting, I’ll have to check that out.

Careful what you wish for. While prices and selection are decent, you almost never see rare or unicorn bottles in these places. That stuff gets held back for raffles, loyalty clubs, and I suspect sometimes for the managers’ friends. Additionally, since they sell so much liquor, these places get rewarded with the bulk of allocated products from distributors, which means you won’t hardly see rare/unicorn bottles in small liquor stores in the area, either. Just to give you an idea for comparison, I’ve been pretty heavy into bourbon hunting since 2018, and have never once seen Stagg, Old Fitz, or Weller 12 anywhere in the KC area, not even at museum prices.

Same here, dude. Crazy thing is, the places where I’ve been denied filming permission all said no because they didn’t want their prices shown. Weird flex, but that’s how it goes sometimes. Thanks again for watching!🥃👍

I’ve already tasted it. My rudimentary, unsophisticated, tobacco smoke-tainted palette tells me it has a typical sugary/caramel initial hit, with a sort of cinnamon/cherry cough syrup finish. I rather enjoyed it!👍🥃

I’m also from kc in fact I used to work at that Hy-Vee years ago. It’s hard to find heavily allocated stuff anywhere in the kc area. Some of my best finds have been at the price choppers and Hy-Vees. You really have to find a good liquor store and become friends with the people to get any super special stuff. I was lucky enough to score a weller special reserve for $40 here recently so there’s stuff out there.

I’ve just had two small pours of it this afternoon, and I’m liking it quite a bit. Not real good with the notes but pretty sure it hit with sugar/vanilla/caramel, and finished with cinnamon candy/cherry cough syrup. May have gotten a bit of leather in there as well. I’ll be enjoying having it around, no doubt!🥃👍
