  • In this video we will be utilizing the color pie system for dnd to learn how to craft more interesting Paladins for your dungeons and dragons campaigns and more. After watching this video I am confident that you will be able craft more interesting characters who will almost play themselves aiding in your role playing and more. The Paladin is a class defined by its oath, which makes it an oddity in dnd in that most classes motivations drive their class this just isn't the case with the paladin. Personally, a lawful neutral Paladin in Orzhov would be a cool idea. They'd still be loyal to their oath, but would also have their own needs and ambitions in mind as well. Along with how to protect and dish out justice, even if some people may not be too happy with how you do it.

Let me paint you a picture of a white/blue paladin!

Despite me thinking white is the most logical color for a Paladin, I think black is a strong contender, thats almost an equal. A Paldin did not need to break his oath to have black as a white replacement. Black gaining the center of the Paladin and it's oath is changing the reason behind hits oath. Black is the color of ambition, while white is the color of order (for the Paladin that is). The Paldin swears his oath, because he knows it's necessary to become stronger and further his own goals. He doesn't serve to further society rather than to further himself. Black isn't dumb and as shown by Liliana, it uses oath or contracts on a regular basis. So swearing an oath, that aligns with his own agenda isn't at odds. Therefor you can have a black Paladin, that hasn't broken an oath.

To add on the idea of an Orzhov Paladin, I think the Oath of Conquest fits quite well! A ruthless pursuit of order and what one believes to be, if not the ideal way, then the necessary way. I kind of “We don’t live in an ideal world. It’s full of horror and tragedy. In order to protect and safeguard what we hold dear, what is best for us, we need to be willing to make the difficult decisions when necessary, even if it means being ruthless.” A far more pragmatic outlook on Peace & Order. A Dark Knight, so to speak. Dirtying one’s hands so that others don’t have to.

I feel like a black/blue paladin could be a very fun concept. With subclasses such as conquest, glory or even Crown

I'm playing a Hexblade Warlock (Black) who is about to become a Paladin (Oath of the Ancients. White/Green). His Tribe is Naya (Red/Green/White)

Personally, I believe the Paladin is all colours.

Don't mind me, just leaving myself a writer's note as to why I saved this in the particular playlist.

Love you made this. The disciplined characters are so much more complex than what 2 dimensional caricatures people typically play them as.

I right now play a white/red Half Orc paladin named Hesediel with a bit of a different twist. While his view is colored by past trauma, it's less a view of the world, as he still sees the beauty inherent in the world and in life(ancients oath), his trauma colored how he viewed himself, as he was abandoned by his mother at birth, and then during his training lost a close friend who sacrificed himself to save Hesediel's life. As such, Hesediel for the longest time felt unworthy of his own life, unworthy of this greater person giving their life for him, feeling like he had a debt that had to be paid in dying for another person or in service of some greater cause, an unconscious death wish that he's working through with his party, who have become his very close personal friends. He's the most emotionally complex character I've ever played and easily my favorite.

Thank you!! And thank you for giving oath of an ancient paladin! My naya paladin Cornelius Blade is the ultimate embodiment of that which is good, he is a king of a kingdom who values, life, creativity, art, and love. And he has his throne in the center of the city, in the biggest bar in town for everyone to revel and be together on equal ground. knowing their king is just as likely to help replace granny Mary's roof shingles with his own hands after a tough storm as well as to protect them from the armies of the abyss. A man of love, life and protection for all. My beautiful red, green, white man 😇😇😇

I had a Lizardfolk Oath of Conquest/Undead Patron Padlock once. I reckon he would be Black/Green. He was bound and determined to be the strongest in the natural world, an unstoppable force that not even death could conquer.

Aaaaaaaah, the best class. For real though, I have never been more on the same page with most everything in one of these videos. My only complaint is that I wish we had several hours to go in depth on every subclass in as much detail as the class as a whole, but I would not actually wish that much work upon you. Great video, thank you very much for doing my favorite proud!

I think there is some interesting potential in the green/white paladin. Such as what would their feelings be towards the green villain you made in a different video? I’m sure that seeing a being so intrinsically tied to nature committing such horrible acts would give a paladin who has sworn an oath to protect nature a lot to think about.

I feel like an Azorius paladin could be one who took the Oath of the Watchers. They protect the world against threats outside of it and need both the mind to even fathom aberrations and the will to subdue them. They might be cold and calculating to others, but it comes with the understanding necessary to defend the innocent lives of the plane

Sultai Paladin - Oath of Watchers - This world is Mine and Mine Alone. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep Outsiders from meddling. Unnatural influence must be severed from our plane through careful action and planning to achieve perfection.

  • @LEdungeonmaster

Thank you for this. As a player, I've stayed away from Paladin because I couldn't figure out how to RP them to save my life. Thank you, this helps.

I had a Devotion Paladin who was probably RW with a White core. He was raised by his order, one of their goddess's decrees being to take quests on dares and to revel in impossible tasks. This made him an impulsive force of nature tempered by devotion and a solemn mission to do good deeds.

Batman DnD style - WU; Oath of Vengeance; A knight on the side of good clad in black and using the night as an ally to dispense justice. The devastating deaths of his parents at a young age made him vow to never allow that sort of thing happen to another as well as an oath to never go over the edge and kill someone outright. Training under a swordmaster Raz Al Guhl he honed his martial prowess and went to his home city to right the wrongs of both the past and present.
