- Giving a review of my KTM 250 SX now that I have had it for 10 hours and have some experience with it. I have switched to becoming a primarily woods riding/racing rider and am looking at the bike in that context.
In this video I talk about jetting, power delivery, living without the electric start, the 19 inch rear tire and other misc. thoughts that go through my mind in thinking about a strict motocross bike in the woods and how I will customize it to suit my needs.
That was an awesome overview. I looked everywhere to get an overview like that. Great job and thanks man!!!
Mikunis have no issues if repaired. From the factory they come with bad float seat o ring and block gasket. Fix those two things and also open the notch on the top of the slide with a file and it makes it crisp. The lectrons lose far too much bottom end power.
Nathan Winsor thanks for the feedback. I went with the kehien airstryker carb and have been very pleased with it.
I like that trail you're on, very nice.
I just got a deal on a 2017 250sx, I’m curious what settings you found to work well for woods riding with the aer forks? Thanks
youre on a 2 stroke but riding like a 4 stroke, you will wreck the engine?
Nice! Do you think I should get one there’s a good deal for a brand new 2006
Go for it. A 2006 will be pretty old in terms of technology but it should be reliable. If you want to race a 2 stroke I would recommend at last getting a 2017 at the oldest but for riding and practicing there is nothing wrong with a low hour old bike.
@@BenIngold I did it the bike was og owner and still had warning stickers on it I got a steal. He thought it was broken but the jets were just clogged. Just cleaned it up and it runs so good

I'm in the market for a YZ250x, but there's a 2017 250SX near me with 40 hours on it for $6k. I live out west, so much of my riding will be in open areas and deserts and maybe the occasional laps on the Vet track.
How do you think this bike would do in those open areas with the stock gearing? Better or worse than in the woods like where you filmed this video? Thanks.
Not great. There is not much top end on the bike. I dropped a tooth in the rear from stock gearing, use the green pv spring, put a vForce4 reed cage and have an fmf fatty on the bike. That make it rev out much better but in stock form it’s a narrow power window
@@BenIngold Got it - thanks for your reply.
XCW all the way for the woods
why do people pronounce it " a-cher-bees " is that how its pronounced ?. i always assumed " a-sir-bis " since it has no h .
it is an Italian brand so the pronunciation is different
@@BenIngold well that explains it then .
did you have any issues with the idle gear?
Madd Dog yea the bike does not want to idle while hot. I have turned it up and played with jetting but it is a regular issue.
same as my bike, but how many hours does it have? because my mate has the same bike as us and his idle gear snapped off and apparently its a common thing. now im scared for it to happen on my bike.
Madd Dog my bike has 30 hours on it and it hasn’t happened to me. I know dudes with this bike and 250 xc’s getting 200 or so hours before major maintenance like crankshafts. Maybe your mate was just unlucky. It happens.
How do you talk and ride at the same time. Lol focus
