Sadly Chapmans widow committed suicide in 1928. The daughter who she named Rae succumbed to measels in 1929 at just 8 years old
And Chapman was known to be such s great guy, loved by all, loved Cleveland...his wife's mother said she never was able to move past Rays death

Chapman's death launched a Hall of Fame career. His replacement was Joe Sewell, whose biggest claim to fame (other than being Chapman's replacement) was his record low strikeout rate of one per 73 plate appearances.

😢😢So sad for his family, does anyone know what happened to Chapman's family?

His wife remarried a few years later, and passed several years after that due to an accidental poisoning. Although she moved on, she’d never attend another baseball game again.

@BaseballTimeMachine I know it's unconfirmed, but I was under the impression she poisoned herself intentionally. And then their daughter Rae passed (measles I think) a year later. Terribly tragic scenario.
