  • Hey everyone! Welcome back to my channel. In today's video, I'm excited to give you a glimpse into my life as a Chinese language student here in southern Taiwan. From exploring the vibrant streets of Kaohsiung to diving into the world of Mandarin, I'll be sharing all the exciting moments of my day. So, let's jump right in!
Lots of people ask how I learned Chinese. Besides living here in Taiwan, studying in a Chinese Language School full-time has been my biggest help! I've been studying at National Sun Yat-Sen University's Chinese Language Center (中山大學 華語中心) for 6 months now and have had a great time.
Before deciding to study Chinese, many people wonder: "Should I study Mandarin in Taiwan or China?" "Should I live in Taipei or Kaohsiung?"
This week I answer these questions and give you a look at my daily life studying Mandarin at the Chinese language center here in Kaohsiung, Taiwan!
🌞 A Tropical Start to the Day
As the sun rises over Kaohsiung, join me on my first day of the new semester. With class just an hour away, let's grab a delicious Taiwanese breakfast and soak in the beautiful tropical weather that graces this part of Taiwan all year round.
    🚇 Exploring Kaohsiung
Living near the Xiziwan subway station, I'm just a short walk away from the university. Discover how convenient it is to navigate this city with the efficient subway system and the new green line light rail, making my daily commute a breeze.
    🌳 A Tranquil University Campus
Step onto the university campus with me. We'll journey through a foot tunnel that takes us under the mountain, surrounded by the soothing sounds of nature. The green surroundings and clean air make it feel like an oasis within the city.
    🎒 Classroom Adventures
With my classroom all set up and my textbooks in hand, I'm ready to dive into my studies. Join me as I navigate through my lessons, including textbooks and listening exercises. Learn how my fellow students from around the world are drawn to the warm atmosphere and vibrant language environment of Kaohsiung.
    🏖️ Beachside Bliss
After class, it's time to unwind and explore. I'll take you to the campus beach, where weekend activities like surfing and swimming bring the campus to life. Discover the stunning views of the ocean and the mountains, providing the perfect backdrop for my student life.
    🍹 Café Escapades
Join me and my friend Shane as we explore a café with breathtaking ocean views. Enjoy a sneak peek into Taiwanese café culture while sipping on refreshing drinks and soaking in the coastal scenery.
    📚 Homework and Progress
Back at home, it's time to tackle some homework. Learn about my daily routine, including how I manage around one to three hours of homework each day. I'll share my insights on the immersive learning experience and how it contributes to my rapid progress in learning Chinese.
    💰 Living and Studying Costs
One of the questions I get asked a lot is about the costs of living and studying in Taiwan. Join me as I break down the expenses, from affordable apartment rentals to tuition fees. Discover why studying here is not only enriching academically but also financially feasible compared to other options.
👋 Thank You and See You Next Time!
Before we wrap up, I want to express my gratitude to National Sun Yat-sen University and the Chinese Language Center for this incredible opportunity. If you've got questions about studying Chinese or want to share your own experiences, leave a comment down below-I'll make sure to respond to each and every one. Don't forget to give this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it and hit that subscribe button for more exciting content coming your way. Thanks for joining me today, and I'll catch you in the next one! Bye-bye! 👋👋👋

Awesome video thanks! I'm seriously tossing up between Taiwan and China for my language study gap year, and your video really helped a lot. What it comes down to now is whether I can bear the tropical weather or if my preference for the dongbei accent is stronger!

I wasn't sure if it was better to choose between the north part of the island or the south. definitely I'm going choose the south :) Great video!

Did you take any elective classes or participate in any NSYSU school clubs?
What other schools outside of Taipei would you recommend?
People have made comments that the Taiwanese accent comes up more in the South and there is more neutral speaking in Taipei. Did this really come up for you?

Is it compulsory for international applications to take TOCFL test even when we apply for beginner level?
