La Manga - A strip of concrete trapped between two seas

La Manga del Mar Menor began to be urbanised in the 1960s with the expansion of coastal tourism along the Spanish coasts. Since then, speculation and the massive development of coastal infrastructures have led to the loss of biodiversity and dune ecosystems that naturally protected the coastline.
The Plataforma Pacto por el Mar Menor is a citizens' association that was created in 2015 with the aim of informing and proposing solutions to improve the state of conservation of the Mar Menor, whose situation is worsening year after year due to ineffective management of the coastal strip and critical pollution from agricultural waste. Together with the platform, numerous associations are currently fighting to give the Mar Menor a legal status by means of a Popular Legislative Initiative (ILP), through the collection of signatures all over the country (www.marmenorpe....
