  • In this episode we get a little insight into the mind of the Father of SWAM Sijo Abdul Mutakabbir.
Sijo is a master teacher who trains and coaches students in all major arenas of Martial Arts; Sport (MMA: Mixed Martial Arts), Reality (SWAM, Lethal Ground and Pound™), and Dojo.
As the Founder and Director of the SWAM Academy of Modern Martial Arts and the creator of the FuJuKa Boxing System, Master Abdul's martial arts story span far and wide.
The original SWAM, located in South Jamaica, Queens, was established in 1977, in one of New York City's most notorious neighborhoods. Mutakabbir's vision to help individuals, families, and communities has found expression and thrived through SWAM. In 1992, SWAM successfully expanded its operation to the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area.
Mutakabbir is virtually a life long martial artist. He has studied numerous fighting systems tutored by some of the most renowned martial artists in history, starting at the age of eleven. He has earned countless titles throughout the country, combining constant study, work, and commitment to be one of the best. His dedication made him the New York State Triple Crown Champion for 20 years.

As one of the GMs of SWAM, I feel extremely blessed to have trained with Sijo for forty five plus years. Sijo has been an inspiration to me, and helped me raise the bar that I set for myself at the beginning of my martial arts journey. Additionally, Sijo has instilled in me the importance of community service. Sijo has shown me through his example, don't just talk the talk, but walk the walk. I am eternally grateful and very happy to see him get his flowers now.

Wow! Sijo Abdul Mutakabbir is a Treasure from somewhere beyond, disguised as an ordinary man, brilliant in our SCIENCE, wise beyond his years. What he mentioned about sharing words of wisdom in The Culture Center continues today. Sijo acknowledges The Name of God in everything. There have been so many occasions that I have met people who have told me of so many heroic and selfless acts he has done, things he never mentions. Sijo Abdul Mutakabbir is undisputed, One of The ASCENDED FEW IN THE MARTIAL SCIENCE, but there is so much more to him, always preferring Peace, always able to conjure The Angel of Chaos. Sijo's goal is to do his part in making the world a better place, one soul at a time. This god in man's clothing is more than iconic. If anyone reading this knows how to introduce him to the producers of "Little Known Black History Facts" He would be an excellent subject and drawing tool, giving younger generations something GOOD TO CLING TO. Thank you Lopez Sensei and Barak Sensei for your hard work to deliver quality documentaries to the world.

This man is one of the great ones and I highly agree with everything he always says my own true philosophy is it's not the art that makes the person it's the person who makes the art and I've been saying that for about 30 years now

I love this man who in 1976 became my first Martial Arts guide. He was teaching at the mosque across the street from the bus terminal in Queens on Jamaica Ave. Afterwards he would teach at the park. His words live with me. He helped saved my life from drugs and alcohol.
