It's strange the lengths that some will go to fuel their self righteousness, I don't know what their end game is, for instance, some come from say, a rock music culture, yet the way they overly promote 'progress' will see their culture eradicated.
What Bill doesn’t get is that such sudden and extreme demographic changes are profoundly undemocratic. No British person has ever been asked if they want their towns and cities to change this way, or if all their public art and buildings should be ugly, or if their family values should come under attack from every angle. These are all concerted policies implemented by powerful entities without the say of the people in the last 50 years.

Every people deserve to be the overwhelming majority in their homelands. Europe would need to do something drastic (and majorly frowned upon) in order to save itself if it wants its people, culture and traditions to survive. If not, it's lost to history.
I feel like the history and customs of the whole world are being swept away.. whole languages are becoming extinct.. It might just be hitting Europe last?.. maybe this and colonization are parts of evolution? Maybe it teaches us that cultural hierarchy (or hierarchy, generally) is an illusion? Maybe our “free will” is tied to a greater “will”? Everything looks different from a higher perspective.. I guess we’ll find out? Exciting.

There are towns in England that changed their ethnicity in less than a decade. That must be jarring for older locals. Change is hard to accept as you get older, and we shouldn't just dismiss these people as racist.

My brother lives in Birmingham, UK. He tells me the majority (significant portion?) of the city is Pakistani/Indian and middle eastern. I would imagine the older white native English people would find that change difficult/weird/jarring? (Choose your word).

I would disagree on the jobs and assimilation. I think the US (where I live) does a better job. European societies are much more homogenous and harder to assimilate for the immigrants that are very different to their new country (meaning non other European countries).

London is one of the most uncomfortable modern cities. Nowhere to rest for a while - central London too crowded - no toilets in cafes - muggings and stabbings. That's the central London part. Venture a mile out from the centre and it's like a shanty town in South Africa. Horrible.

I flew through Heathrow and had to stay overnight at one of the airport hotels two weeks ago. It was a very odd experience. Literally none of the 'British' people I interacted with at the airline, security, the hotel etc. were white they were all brown. They also had the army doing the job of speaking with the incoming passengers rather than border security but only if you had certain passports for some reason I only had to have mine scanned. Very different experience then going to the US.
The 'border security' would have been on strike, that's why the army were doing the job

I grew up in a north London street (1980's). All English, that street is now 99% asian/ muslim. The town I lived near has no white people apart from the elderly....English people all left. This has happened in 30 yrs.

Nothing wrong with sensible levels of immigration. But we have a right to preserve what is ours. And we have the right to want it to be majority white Brits. It’s not bigotry, it’s how every group in the world operates.
I see immigration differently in Europe and the Uk. The US has been diverse for a long time and it has set us apart. There is a slight white majority but that is not bad in and of itself. The way I see it, there are more diverse parts of the world and more homogenous. Both are beautiful in their own way. The UK, like Nigeria, like India, like China, etc. should be more homogenous. If I ever go to Europe, I want to FEEL like it's Europe. So I don't celebrate Londons population changing so drastically. It's also bs to imply that mass immigration into Europe hasn't created problems and cultural clashes.

For those watching from the US, in London it's not a black v's white thing. Blacks and whites get along very nicely for the most part, because 90%+ of black people, either come from the Caribbean, or much more likely are the sons and daughters, grandchildren or even the great grandchildren of those from the Caribbean. They have lived all their lives under the same laws, have the same social structure almost the same culture, the only big difference is the food they may eat. Those from the far east make up around 1% and most of them ex Hong Kong Chinese. Those from India, or Indian backgrounds are no problem for most people. By far the biggest problem the UK faces in regard to race and religion, is those from a Pakistani background. Last year there were race riots in Leicester. Not black v's white, but Pakistani Muslims fighting Indian Hindus

Have you actually set foot inside London?! Pakistanis make up around 35% of British Muslims and even less percentage of London Muslims (Let alone Non-White Londoners). The remaining ~65% of British Muslims are Indian (!), Bangladeshi, White European, White British Converts, Black African and Arab. Whether or not you feel they have "integrated better", *Non-Muslim* blacks especially from the Caribbean (Jamaica, Antigua, Trinidad etc) make up the bulk of gang activity, street drug dealing, violent crime and poor educational attainment in London. I have always wanted to go to London to see real British people. Nowadays it would be a journey to Russia, Pakistan and India if I would go there. Lot of Cities here in Germany are lost to Muslims too.
Something many people here are not considering is population growth. Western economies are built on continual growth. Our retirements are directly tied to it for a reason, they want us invested in the company/country's overall growth. Most major national populations around the world are due to decline, some drastically, over the next century. Immigration goes beyond sympathy, the west needs immigrants to grow out of the baby boomer population decline and maintain economic power. Someone on here said it was an "invasion," the Irish were often said to be invading New York, too. This is nothing new, for America at least.

Why do we need constant growth? When is enough wealth, money, influence and power enough? Continual GDP growth is unsustainable. By drawing all of these innovative and entrepreneurial people away from their home countries we selfishly hoard all the talent and cause a brain drain for their homeland, which significantly helps in keeping the third world impoverished. All the while an influx of immigrants that keeps raising the population of countries with below replacement fertility rates (meaning the population would be going down without mass immigration) causes environmental damage by needing to build new housing and a larger carbon footprint for the host nation due to ever more people. Furthermore, simple supply and demand dictates that more laborers equal lower wages, keeping immigrants, their descendants and ethnic, native Westerners economically stagnant or poorer.
In conclusion, a small amount of immigration that can be easily and rapidly assimilated can and usually is a good thing. But when immigrants come in such large numbers, especially rapidly but even if in more reasonable time frames, they tend to form parallel societies with no incentive to assimilate, thereby creating ethnic and tribal conflicts and rivalries where there were none. Too much immigration keeps the third world poor, Western laborers economically stagnant or poorer, erodes the environment and causes ethnic and tribal conflict where there was none. Since it's mostly the richest 1 percent that win and since the richest 10 percent don't have to deal with the tribal conflict, I can say confidently that there are far more drawbacks to large scale immigration than perks. Increasing GDP only helps the richest among us.
p.s Yeah the Irish were called invaders. When your country is Protestant and all these Catholics show up I can see why they were concerned. But Irish and Germans, the 2 biggest non-British groups to immigrate to America in the 19th century, are as similar to British as you can get, along with Dutch and Scandinavians who also immigrated during that time. People coming to the Anglosphere today are far more culturally distant peoples and may be much harder to assimilate in the huge numbers they're coming in.

While I am intrigued by some guest selections of Maher's and eager to discover the more intimate side of those personalities and viewpoints throughout his fireside chats it seems it rarely unfolds that way. I easily tire of Maher throwing off guests streams of thought by constant interruptions and/or talking over them [emphasis added]. It is a theme of the show and it almost always occurs as a means for Maher to impart an opposing viewpoint or to share the same viewpoint but use the interruption as a segue for "his" anecdotes or another long winded story. Meanwhile, the guest has either lost their momentum or their stream of thought and all we remember is Maher's talking points. Few times I have been proud to hear guests interrupt Maher's interruption and ask for the courtesy to finish their thought. I'm not sure if is just London or just 'some mixing'. UK state has years telling that the babies born to actual english born women make up about 30% of all newly born kids in the country, the rest are babies of 1st gen immigrant women, and is under 50% already for quite a while now, more than a decade. The 'english born mothers' category comprise as well women of pakistani, indian, and alike descent, whose parents were earlier gen migrants to UK, and the state say them as a group have higher fertility rate per woman compared to old white english native women, which means that the share of babies born to old white english native women must be even lower, probably about a quarter of all new babies born there. Again, is UK state telling this data, is not me. This being the case, I guess is hard to still talk about 'english people', as we knew the english people, in 50 years, that country won't be what was 50 years ago, London for sure not.

What the real issue it that the UK is far more better than US and EU for jobs, prospects, futures and many Black people here have mixed race families today than 50 years ago, which means the white British are hardly racist, and have much more love for diversity of culture than most of EUROPE AND US.

I don't know what is currently the share of white in the population, nor whom they account as white (ex MENA people, or jews), they do have a high share of old people, over 30%, most probably are white, but olds don't represent the future of any nation.

I think the bigger issue is the belief in immigration has always been that people join the culture. When you take on that number of people that quickly, you run the risk of replacing the culture, not melding it. Not saying diversifying a location is a bad thing, but there is definitely a different cultural impact of doing so over 100 years versus doing so in 10 - if there are more people who grew up in an entirely different culture than the original one in any given generation it will effectively see the original in decline. It's hard to talk about this anymore, since both sides will hate any reasonable discussion for different reasons.
Diversifying isn't a bad thing. It's a horrible thing.

Society is becoming more diverse in every way, while at the same time almost everyone agrees society is getting worse. Like it or not White people create prosperity and stability and have more civic responsibility than most. Humans should be treated equally but they are not equal.

What Bill doesn't seem to grasp is England not like the US was a largely hemognous nation most of people whose families unlike america were born and bred there for generations, and even though immigration picked up in the 1900s onwards it was still fairly low until the 90s and then we had massive and very quick demographic change from people emigrating here. America is a young country built on immigration, its a very different beast then a established country with native people experincing mass demographic change. If we were like america a nation if immigrants or we had imported millions of black slaves into our country and had not allowed them into the capital and it changed it would be progress but this aint what this is. This is a massive issue and I'll tell you why but first of why is divseirty a good thing?
All the studies show that the more diverse a place is the less community involvement there is, the more people mistrust each other and even mistrust the group they are In. To assume its a good thing in and of itself is silly, it needs further examination. I'm not saying I hate diversity or its not good, I'm just saying I'm sick of hearing our taught mantra trotted out like it's an undisputed fact.
What we have had is rapid demographic change, even myself as a child born in the 90s has seen the difference in a place i visited in London where my family are from to now. It went from being largely white, to a white minority in less then 30 years. Now it wouldn't be so bad if all it was was black and brown faces and that was the only change but no. What you get is massive cultural differences between the white natives and the people that have moved there. My families area has a huge population of Muslims and its now unsafe for women, especially white women to go out at night, the pubs are closing down, mosques were built, women walk about with full face coverings, some local schools have to have anti terrorist groups going in, shops only have signs in arbaic, etc. Now imagine seeing your little home change from just an average London Borough to that in less then 30 years and ask yourself would you be happy with that and waving the flag of diversity? Culture matters race doesn't.
So this is a problem with partly down to who we let in, if we have migrants, we should focus more on cultures with laws or traditions like our own to help with integration but the bigger problem is the sheer scale of migrants coming in, in such a short space of time. It means they all go to one area, as you probably would if we were in their shoes, and then you dont have to bother to intergrate because you have a Pakistan from home, a Somalia from home etc. There are people in my families area that does not speak a word of english who are second generation migrants, which is insane to me because they live in their little area and rarley leave. Don't tell me this is not a massive issue. Imagine telling the natives your a terrible racist if it was let's say a Nigerian and they were unhappy their capital city was over 70% foreign born none black and these migrants didn't speak their language and didn't bother to integrate. Not to mention the massive rises in crime from especially in London largely foreigners!
The next problem as I alluded to is there is virtually no expectation of integration. We have a multicultural society which means we can all live in little oslated groups and other then "tolerance" there is nothing that unites us or makes us british. Therefore those Muslims in my families area not speaking a word of English are just as british as myself born and bred here, family going back thousands of years. Nope. We need to have something overriding that gives us all a collective cultural identity, that every child in school, on the BBC and in the home needs to be taught beyond tolerance, and the expectation should be you have chosen to move here the culture we are is british, its your job to fit in not the natives job to water down their culture for you, and by all means keep some of your tradtions and even holidays but you should want to wave the flag on holidays, you should want to mix with brits, you should start complaining about the weather and shit. What's even worse is some politicians seem intent of putting down the native culture. The mayor of london recently put out an image of a white family and tagged it as not real London, implying white people don't make up real londeners, imagine him doing that to a black family he would be hung. He also said immigrants and refugees built London. No they didn't, it was largely through MOST of its history white working class british people that built London and made it what it was. Why lie about its history you don't have to you can also point towards immigrant contribution but why put down the entire native population and basically say you did nothing and this is not only not yours its less yours then immigrants because they are the ones that made it not you. It's really dangerous and soul destroying tbh to see this happen to your country. All so they can have cheap migrant labour. Not for any ideal. That's it. Cheap migraht labour.
So tbh Bill I'm not impressed by you saying that the older generations made to leave their homes because they don't feel welcome there or are priced out because of foreign money is good are just stragglers and they should just get with the times man. It's gaslighting people and making them out to be irrational old racists which could not be further from the truth.
Now I don't blame any immigrant at all. But all of these people have a home culture, they have somewhere to return to if they ever wanted to go home. We don't. This country is our home, and if we continue to let so many people in it, belittle our culture, not even expect the basics of integration such as speaking the language, and even worse now completely demonise our history to make our citizens hate ourselves we won't have a home and I don't think that's something to celebrate.
After whites, what race is next? And then next? I suppose eventually just the whole species as a whole.
London is the exception not the rule. Diversity is actually lacking in rural England and in small villages, it's only in the major cities where a melting pot of different races and cultures can be found and there are a lot more small villages and towns than big metropolises like London, Manchester, Birmingham etc around the country, so for the most part if you are travelling the full length of the country like I have you will find that you encounter indigenous Brits a lot more than foreigners. Make of it what you will.
There shouldn't be any places in Britain where Britons are a minority....
