+Tyler Pippin An Alien armada set on wiping out our species comes to Reach with 750ish ships to Our measly 150ish and the planet starts being bombarded from orbit or something like that.
name the invasion army.... Helljumpers. *queue epic music* Most of the crew - not to mention your fellow jarheads - will be leaving the ship in lifeboats. They'll ride to the surface in air conditioned comfort, sipping wine, and nibbling on appetizers. Not you, however. Oh no, you're going to leave thePillar of Autumn in a different method. So this is where my 1387 hours of Stellaris came from. Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful game and for providing some amazing content over the years
I think it's awesome how Shack still finds a way to include us TH-cam plebs in his active videos. TH-cam subscribers are like the popular opinion while patreons are like the militant big wigs. Love it!!
Just voted. New worlds protocol is a no brainier. Always pick it at the start or you will be behind for the entire game with angry religious neighbors knocking at the door saying bow to my God. Then you have to be their vassal then you have to revolt and it will be such a bitch to do. So yet do new worlds protocol. Btw very excited for this series. Go captain shack.
Not a patron, but I figured I'd leave my two cents here in case anyone's lacking ship class names/individual ship names: Feel free to expand the list & make a thread. Minotaur Nemesis Monarch Praetorian Wraith Tempest Atlantis Corsair Cutlass Heart of Glass Red Horse/Red Sun Ajax Aten Sovereign class Petra class Sigurdur class
+Sultan gotta be honest i feel like every game has the nemesis class ship and its always like a small high dmg single target ship designed to take out titans
I think you should of chosen the Betharian Power plant because early game just 1 or 2 betharian plants can replace 4 or 5 low level standard power plants. For the corvette hull i normally use the one with one small and one medium because the larger the weapon slot the damage and range goes up a little bit alone with energy cost.
Steel Walrus I tried that in a few play through but i found it time consuming to upgrade and kind of messy in battle, I do keep a few variants around just to fit larger weapons on. But other than that i tend to keep one class for each ship with the majority of the small slots filled with point defenses,
Michael Gearhart Fair enough. I will admit that I get weak in the knees when I know I can customize stuff. lol I mostly do it with stuff like destroyers and corvettes. Have one for torpedoes and point defence, and one for guns. then I divide my heavier ships between brawlers and "Artillery".
+Michael Gearhart The down side to using larger slots though is you take an accuracy hit to the weapon itself. This isn't a problem if he is shooting larger targets with less evasion but if he does get into a war with another race then he will be fighting Corvettes with high evasion. AI seem to love their corvettes. Also while ballistic weapons are very powerful they have the worst accuracy.
Just voted for New Worlds Protocol, imo it's a no-brainer. It's pretty much a universal bedrock tenet of 4X games that you ALWAYS get expansion going as soon as you possibly can. Military stuff like those other two only matters once you start running into other factions, and if you haven't expanded by the time that happens, you're screwed no matter how shiny your military is.
you should use the pause feature at least a bit as things in stellaris can happen really quick and all over the galaxy so it would make it a bit easier. also i'd suggest to have two types of fleets: Defensive fleets that patrol the terran sectors and an attack fleet for wars that normally lies on standby
LOL awesome intro!!! Recommended Research: Physics - Global Energy Management which unlocks the Energy Hub. It increases your energy production on the planet. Society - New World Protocol. That is the agenda of the Alliance. So it should be the priority. Engineering - Betharian Refining. Will unviel this strategic resource. You can then decide better which system is more valuable once you can see where this resources are.
I know you're a 40k fan, so I think it would be a great idea to go with the 40k style of naming Fleets. Therefore, the starting fleet is obviously Battlefleet Solar under Lord Admiral Solar ____.
+TheXPGamers i really like the first episode and i'm looking forward to the next one. since i am a student who can't afford to support you with money i'm more than happy to participate via strawpolls. nice way to get everyone involved i think!
***** I perform Space military strategy like setting a defense area, organising a strike and run fleet or making distraction tactics in Sins of a solar empire better but Here in solaris is about Taxation system, citizen's happiness, economy and POLITICS.
+mcsproot while i havent played the game i personnaly think hyperdrive is the best because its the most tactical one(blockading planets etc.) also from shacks explanation hyperdrive is the fastest transport method
the Vote is a great Idea but for the purposes of this lets play I recommend getting COLONIZATION as your first society research. Stallaris research Mechanics always starts you with the option with space COLONIZATION. After that it would be randomly generated at a later date. It could be several (game) years later before the tech pops up again. between now and then you might research a lot of techs that will only be useful after you expand your boarders. That means the series will be slow for expansion for like the first 6-7 episodes instead of 3-4 episodes if you did the COLONIZATION tech.
I wouldn't be too sure that you'll be voted out of office, Shack. My first empire was a military republic as well, and my leader was reelected over and over again until she died of old age.
I know I'm a year late to the video, but I do love the "StarTrooper" parody video in the beginning as a warm up. Lol I myself just got Stellaris and now I'mma play, while watching.
I know I'm 3 seasons away from this but I really like how the backstory is its really creative especially how you got Patreon not only to make this yours but to your subscribers!
Consul Shack i as one of the representatives of Iberian peninsula must protest against the way we are going, our best estimates tell us that in 50 years all of our souces of power and livable space will be streach fin so i ask of you please like you said look to the stars and find us more places to live and prosper. sorry for mistakes English is not my native language and thanks for this series Shack ^^
Capt. Shack, for the ship weps and modules, when looking at them you will see different hex that has S, M, or L. If you hover over that, it will give u a description on what the wep or module provides for Small, Medium, Large, Hanger, or Heavy slots. IE (not sure if the values are correct): Small Power core (Starter) provides 5, Med power core 10, Large provides 15.
I love what you're doing with this series and how incredibly well you are implementing your subs and paetrons into the game. I might even consider throwing few in, myself, just to have a battleship class with my name on it XD
Dang Shack, watching this I feel like I got Lucky, my run through for the Sol System had special research projects on 3 different planets, AND Venus had a thing with robots that made it a world I could colonize. RNG gods at work I tell you.
Well the XPG System Alliance formed off of the backbone of military strategists who were able to survive the war and form the Alliance. At it's core the Alliance would be more in favor the strategic options that would benefit the Alliance as a whole, not just on the military level. I believe that New Worlds Protocol is the best strategic option for the XPG System Alliance as it helps in almost every category, better income, more research opportunities, larger borders and more population (therefore more soldiers, officers and scientists). All in all it is the best choice for the Alliance at this early stage. Similarly I don't believe focusing on planetary defense would be the best strategic option for the Alliance this early on. The horrors of WW3 would be fresh in peoples minds and i doubt that jumping straight into more nukes would be the best way to occupy you research facilities. The Betharian Power Plant or the Engineering facility would be far greater options in keeping with the lore of the Alliance. Great video! Keep up the good work Captain!
I would go with Colony ships, a rush "land grab" I've seen can be very important in early game, and helps your status in first contact situations when you have a larger empire with more planets than they. Solar panels for the space stations is also very important as it drastically reduces the upkeep costs of every station that has it installed, also advised to keep at least one empty upgrade slot available per station in the mid to late game, instead of filling them all up with corvette and destroyer yards.
3 small are better during the start, since you'll only be fighting corvettes. Tip for the future: Smaller weapons against smaller ships, bigger weapons against bigger ships. Hope to this helps! Also, I think you should stay close to the lore, so go for military academy, but stay away from misses. I don't think your people are to enthusiastic about nukes after coming out of a nuclear war.
Hey cap. I just wanted to tell you that I love your channel and I have been watching it for so long, I even remember your first republic at war video. Keep up the good work.
I have been subed since you had 10,000 subscribers and I do not understand why you are not in the millions by now. You make great conent, you are "funny", you also know a crap ton of lore on most of my favorite Si-Fi movies\series. Anyways, keep up the good work and I hope you hit a million by Christmas! :D
Love the way this is being run, and excited for the time sink that will come from 7 seasons of stellaris! This is the old lore with different travel methods, so ready to go
Shack...your glorious, that intro? It feels great. its like how they ussually get an intro rolling for star trek...maybe do one at the ending? like maybe how your captains feels about the progress or a specific event that happened? its more work im well aware...but it would make it feel even more like a show.
Shak ALWAYS GO FOR THE NEW WORLDS TROPICAL. colonies will help you grab territory early on and if you miss it, then the other empires will jump far ahead of you.
The fact that i Got into a paper thin starter corvette does bode well for my desire to go out in a heroic blaze of glory defending the alliance. it does not however bode well for for my desire to be the first to cut my teeth against the fallen ones. "All forward, if we can't shoot through their armor WE WILL BE THE BULLET!" Capt Ryuu Jin of the Black Drake
Cap! The difference between small and medium slots is what that slot will be good at dealing with. Small slots are good for dealing with small ships and larger slots will be better at dealing with larger ships. For the moment, the small slots are the best from what I've gathered, but once you think the enemy's got destroyers, it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade to larger ones.
Dear CaptainShack I have read all the comments of the people of the Alliance and count the vote of the first day I will post the counts and how many votes they have. I have labeled them under names for colony's, planets, ship name, army/fleet unit names, and classes of ships in order for the name to get on the list it must of had at least 3 vote by different people.
I want to hear the story of how a captain named shack got elected to be consul. Also, I am a huge supporter of the new worlds protocol. Love your work cap. :D
Starship troopers both the first movie and the animated series help inspire the design the look and feeling of halo with out both the first movie and the animated series there might not have been a master chief or the unsc.
I would suggest you choose the betharian power plants. As of right now, it'd be most beneficial for you to focus heavily on infrastructure and resources because you won't spend much time in any kind of diplomacy or war early game. You'll need all the resources you can get your hands on for late early game to mid game if you want to become an imperialist state.
Small turrets have slightly better accuracy, but larger turrets have more range. The DPS of a medium turret appears to be about twice that of a small turret. One thing you can do is put a small missile turret and a medium ballistic or laser turret so that both will have similar range.
When I get Stellaris, I am going to base factions from the Lost Fleet Series by Jack Campbell. The Alliance, Syndicate Worlds, Callas Republic, Rift Federation to name a few. I might also base some from The Expanse series, United Nations, Martian Congressional Republic, Outer Planets Alliance, Free Navy.

Yep, Since it has got huge customization options... Still not as good as the good old masters of orion 2 or the Galactic civilization triology.

FTL drives are in the department of the physics department. So it might have been better to asign inventing it to that guy.
I want to hear the story of how a captain named shack got elected to be consul. Also, I am a huge supporter of the new worlds protocol. Love your work cap. :D

Starship troopers both the first movie and the animated series help inspire the design the look and feeling of halo with out both the first movie and the animated series there might not have been a master chief or the unsc.
that starship trooper like intro priceless.
Would You Like To Know More? haha
Yes chairman like when is the next episode?
I would suggest you choose the betharian power plants. As of right now, it'd be most beneficial for you to focus heavily on infrastructure and resources because you won't spend much time in any kind of diplomacy or war early game. You'll need all the resources you can get your hands on for late early game to mid game if you want to become an imperialist state.
Small turrets have slightly better accuracy, but larger turrets have more range. The DPS of a medium turret appears to be about twice that of a small turret.
One thing you can do is put a small missile turret and a medium ballistic or laser turret so that both will have similar range.
The intro was awesome and so are the sellaris videos!!!
I think a good name for the first Strike Team would be : Phalanx Division 1. Hope this helps! :)
I really like the unique set up at the beginning~!
Love the Starship troopers inspired intro! Amazing!
