Fallen clones has always been my favorite. It’s both a tribute to the men he’s lost, and the relatively low number of marks shows how good he is at training and maintaining his men

In the first episode the TBB, the Batch's wall was filled with those tallies, marking each victory so it's probably similar
But the bad batch were a special unit that wasn’t attached to regs, who went on high risk missions, who didn’t have a great relationship with regular troopers so it makes sense for them. Rex is a captain who leads his men and does everything possible to complete the mission and keep his men, his brothers, alive. That he’d remember each of the men he lost in such a personal way would make sense for him
It's not impossible but the Bad Batch's wall represents what they as a single squad did.

Having the marks being his fallen clones makes sense when you know how many mental scars Rex has whenever his closest or most special comrades die.

Fallen clones make so much for Rex and a character. He always put his brothers before anybody else. It would only be right that he makes a memorial for them on his armour

My preferred reason for the tallies is the missions or the fallen Brothers that were very close to such as Fives or Kix
Rex is definitely the type of person who would be more concerned with remembering how many brothers he’s lost than with how successful he’s been throughout the war.

The idea that it’s his fallen brothers could lead to a dramatic scene in a “tales of the clones” thing where we see him angrily writing another tally down

Must’ve been a real pain when Rex had to transition to phase two armor. Imagine having to find all the tiny faded Lines on the armor and put them on the same spot on the phase two armor
the explanations with the missions he and the 501st won makes the most sense
I like the successful missions tally, because if he had a mark for every clone he knew who was killed he’d be covered in them.

It would be awesome if one side was his lost brothers, the other side is the ones he's saved. Like he's trying to balance the scales.
I think it’s either fallen clones of his unit, high value targets, or battles he’s been in.
I honestly like to think it's how many brother's he's rescued, perhaps it could be a reminder of the fallen ones. However, I just find some comfort in thinking that he's saved them, rather than losing them. It would be awesome if one side was his lost ones, the other side is the ones he's saved. Like he's trying to balance the scales.
I'd say it's probably missions, like what the Bad Batch did in their little quarters in Kamino on their wall.
I think the Tallys truly mean how many men he's lost by his side in the 501st, how many men and friends he's seen get taken out from the field or never to find solace in a proper burial. I think it fits his character most as for an example, Domino Squad.

As far as Legends material, it's for the geontians for the first ever clone battle, they lost thousands of clones, and their weapons use sonic waves making the attacks more deadly and painful.
A good reference for this is the book: order 66.
I believe that the tallies are count for successful missions, battles, or important events, etc
Planets or systems liberated during the war makes more sense in terms of the "campaign ribbon" interpretation. He would have lost too many brothers along the way for so few markings to represent everyone who didn't make it.

Honestly I probably would have seen the tally marks more like indicators of how many battles were won or no more sentimental fashion How many of his brothers he particularly missed. Like Commander Cody - a CO and leader of General Kenobi's forces, somebody that he worked with a lot and got to know who very well. Technically him and Rex were up equal rank, but because Ahsoka became part of the dynamic of the 501st, he pretty much surrendered that title to her as a Padawan learner and coming in hot to the series around 13 or so years old. So Rex probably thought the title as well as the responsibility would be good for her when the surrendered his post returning to the rank of captain. Which I think in most of our opinions still suits them pretty well. Plus it doesn't take away from his experience and authority. And a lot of fans including myself were very happy to see him reappear in Star Wars Rebels. As well as seeing indicators of other clone trooper survivors in the franchise like Cutler Quaid, Gregor the former commando, even that homeless clone trooper from the Kenobi Show, and of course Boba Fett. Even though most of them were most likely wiped out by the Empire during their rise as indicated in Bad Batch, it's nice to know that there are probably at least a few hundred or thousand of them still out there in a galaxy. (Or at least there would be if they didn't have accelerated aging. Even the survivors are probably dead of old age by now, making Boba Fett one of the few exceptions since he was unmodified per his father Jango's request to the Kaminoans along with his fee of letting them use his genetic material to make the Clone army).

My guess is that this was done to mirror what American soldiers did in Vietnam, where they would mark off their completed tours as a way of showing themselves how long they have left until they can go home

I feel like its more of high priority targets or completed special missions from very early in the war when he was an Arc trooper. Him marking his fallen soldiers wouldn't make sense since after Umbara and plenty of mission before and after that his armor would be absolutely covered

Considering the time Rex fought on the frontlines and the intensity of the battles, I highly doubt the marks are related to droids or clone troopes. His armor wouldn't have space to count droids destroyed or fellow troopers KIA. I think it's a more plausible possibility for the marks to represent the living targets he had to put down. Specially not only hearinf, but seeing old man Rex talking about war and still maintaining his eagerness to fight for what he believes is worth protecting, I'd say it's easy to see a high ranking clone trooper such as Rex being emotionally scarred by the death of people on the battle field. Not that he wouldn't kill living enemies if he deemed necessary, but I don't think it would be something he would do and forget about it

I think its thevclones because it would be impossible to count the 501st's victories and kills, but because they are elite, their losses could be counted. So, it's most likely his respect to his brothers that fell
I perfer to think the tallys are for all his fallen brothers because id say being a clone, his bond with his brothers always stood out as the biggest part of his character. Plus if we contrast his tallys pre order 66 to his tallys in rebels, he has innumerable more tallys then he did in the clone wars which considering droids were decomisioned after Order 66 it wouldnt make sense for the tallys to go up unless they we're his brothers that he had lost. Plus i mean durring Order 66 he was the only survivor of the 332nd Company, so naturally hed have to do something to honor them after everything.

The Thai market's been falling Clones makes sense, but also the talimarks Being HVT kills makes sense as well cause we know that in the clone wars we had a very small amount of high priority kills i think in the entire series, we see him kill a total of 30 different HVTs And then he's killed more droids than the HVT's so the tais being HVT's makes sense or his fallen brothers makes sense as well

Knowing rex its probably close friends he lost, not every clone in the 501 because that is a very high number. I like the high priority kills or times he came close to death. If rex was to make a memorial on his armor i think he would give them something more than a tally mark
