  • A year on since one of the largest non-nuclear blasts in history, Beirut continues to search for answers.
Families of the victims of the explosion at the port continue to demand answers.
The investigations have not uncovered what triggered the explosion and the origins of the shipment that exploded.
And attempts by the lead judge to prosecute some of those believed responsible for unsafely storing tens ammonium nitrate at the port for years have faced political backlash

The one thing that has always bothered me was who was the one that believed that storing fireworks, oil and ammonium nitrate in one facility in the heart of a city was a good idea? Not to mention, they didn't even bother to do basis checks by the sounds of it either. There's gross negligence and then there's this.

Stupid thieves steal stuff and damage much of it while stealing, they sell some of the undamaged stuff and let the rest sit. Fireworks have a short expiration date. Ammonium nitrate had damaged packaging. It is the combination of thievery and stupidity.

I'm a survivor....& watching this documentary makes me sick for how much our cartel leaders don't care about Lebanese people...This small country never knew peace cause of our war lords & religious people...I guess the solution is either a foreign country come & rule us or simply to go into a federalism...How come after 2 years we don't have justice yet....not a single responsible person in jail...

I really hoped this film would also include the anecdote of three lives lost - two before the explosion and one after - of men who also rang the alarm bells of what was being stored at Beirut Port. These were: Mounir Abu Rjeily, a former anti-smuggling customs authority; Colonel Joseph Skaff, former Chief of the drug control division at the Lebanese Customs; and Joseph Bejjani, a military photographer. Abou Rjeily and Skaff died under mysterious circumstances prior to the bomb while Bejjani was assassinated in his own home after the bomb.
What these men knew is important, because at the end of the day Lebanese are only getting angrier at the fact that some people who are alive know what happened while we don’t…

What's incredible is how the grain inside the silos helped decouple the deadly explosive shock wave and this assisted in the silo's being partially saved. Sadly no one focuses on what wasn't destroyed and why. The grain silos should remain as a reminder to everyone of the lives lost. The fact their still standing can be seen as the resilience of the people against a corrupt government keen to bury all the facts.

Army should have moved nitrate inland + stored the 2,750 tons in a 50ft deep square pit..
Welding team left an hour before fire, could have left smouldering materials which ignited fireworks, should they have been / were they working near stored fireworks..?
Every bag had sufficient information printed on exterior to warn of dangers + written warnings were made for eight years..
If you see liquid leaking from a huge fuel container, that has flammable signage to warn of danger, are you going to use welding equipment next to it, would you continue to walk past the storage facility every day taking no action..?
Fire Brigade in attendance show storage facility doors to be locked with no person having the keys..
No 'highly inflammable' signage is recorded on exterior of warehouse, no emergency water sprinkling system can be seen inside the warehouse..
    R.I.P..
    As stated, corrupt management of the country, which is why;
F.B.I. should have been aware of where such shipments were going having already suffered from a nitrate terrorist attack in the USA..?
MEDIAPART (c) has expert 3d modelling of disaster with information of substances stored in warehouse 12, this includes 23 tons of fireworks, etc..

    So.many.improvements.
Just some meaningless Internet comment suggestions:
    1. More education, less invisible sky daddies.
    2. People need to accept their own blame/responsibility.
    3. Immutable decentralised administrative, financial, political and project management systems. This ameliorates the current system's risk/reward assymetry plus more.
    4. Town planning 10 km exclusion zone of industrial ports from residential and commercial buildings.
    5. Crime happens, so remove the human element out of ports/docks...plenty of 100% automated ports around the world...next political voting and financial systems.

ISLAM IS VERY CLEAR ON RIBA - ٱلرِّبَوٰٓا۟ - BANK INTERESTS
The unanimous opinion of Islamic scholars is that Islamic Sharia law prohibits the receipt or payment of interest. This includes:
    - Any interest received in a bank account
    - Interest on any form of lending or borrowing
    - Loans taken for property purchases with an interest element
    - Loans taken out for educational courses (ie degree or Masters) with an interest element like HIGHER EDUCATION LOANS BOARD

(2:275) As for those who devour interest,315 they behave as the one whom Satan has confounded with his touch. on this situation, they say: Buying and selling, also, is the same as interest, even though Allah has made buying and selling lawful, and interest unlawful.
Now, Hence, he who receives this admonition from his Lord, and then gives up (dealing in Bank/Trade interest), may keep his previous gains, and it will be for Allah to judge him. But, As for those who revert to it (Continue to trade in Bank Interest), they are the people of the Fire, and in it shall they abide.
(2:276) Allah deprives interest of all blessing, whereas He blesses charity with growth.Allah loves none who is ungrateful and persists in sin.
(2:277) Truly the reward of those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish Prayer and pay Zakah is with their Lord; they have no reason to entertain any fear or grief.322 (2:278) Believers! Have fear of Allah and give up all outstanding interest if you do truly believe.
(2:279) But if you fail to do so, then be warned of a war from Allah and His Messenger (Problems in Life). If you repent even now, you have the right of the return of your capital; neither will you do wrong nor will you be wronged.
(2:280) But if the debtor is in strained circumstances, let him have respite until the time of his ease (when he can repay); and whatever you remit by way of charity is better for you, if only you know.
(2:281) And have fear of the Day when you shall return to Allah (When you die or Qiyaamah) and every human being shall be fully repaid for whatever (good or evil) he has done, and none shall be wronged -be put unjustly.
In Holy Quran Suran Al Imraan 3 Verses :130
O believers! Do not consume interest, multiplying it many times over. And be mindful of Allah, so you may prosper
    وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ ١٣٢
Obey Allah and the Messenger, so you may be shown mercy.

Fertilizer was left in Beirut by abandoned ship, a common occurrence when the operator of a ship becomes insolvent. Owners of ship were known to import fertilizer to make bombs for Assad. Military with port authorities stored fertilizer unsafely. Mossad clearly not responsible and besides Mossad’s mistakes are usually confined to assasination of wrong individual, not this kind of catastrophe.
