Thanks for this video Angie… one of your best content so far. We hope to see more informative videos about menopause. Thanks for everything you do for this “ hot and flashy “ community! ❤
Angie what were the supplements/vitamins or scripts that were discussed when talking about the bone loss in the jaw. Y’all talked about a couple of people who had lost teeth and couldn’t get implants because the loss of bone in the jaw. I tried listening to it several times and just couldn’t make out what y’all were saying.
@@janellstarnes8029I went back curious as well it’s stated at about min 32:15 Fosonax? & Prolia? causing dental issues *Not sure of spelling At about min 35:03 she recommends a supplement called fortibone? Protein & collagen
This is UNBELIEVABLE. I'm 52. 3 years ago I went to my doctor because of hair loss. I asked if I could be starting menopause. Labs were drawn, the doctor said, no menopause... I started minoxidil with minimal results. I'm continuing but went back to the doctor with severe bone pain. He said given my younger years as an alcoholic, I'm in recovery, I should expect pain and problems. I went back to another doctor and she said no menopause, all my lab looks fine. Finally i went to a derm to address my hair loss, still just dealing with the bone pain, extreme fatigue and brain fog. She looked through my labs and said, girl you are in menopause. She gave me the name of a good gyno who would help. It feels so great just to be validated!!
I’m 68 and started HRT last year. I was using estradiol patch and progesterone. .075 mg dose patch. I started bleeding and extremely sore breasts. My gynecologist did a D&C to see if I had cancer. All clear and he put me back on HRT. I decided to decrease my dose by cutting my patch in two. I feel better with no symptoms. In fact my urinary incontinence has improved. I’m saying all this to help others because we are the group left out but don’t have to be❤️
It is normal to have breakthrough bleeding when starting HRT. However, as long as you're getting relief from symptoms that's most important because that means you're avoiding the big 3 diseases.
@@DeeDee-rr3sn that's not even the recommended Lowest dose to prevent the big 3. Seems like your doctor just wrote you a placebo prescribed. FYI minimum dose is preventative. Dr. Barbara Taylor has an entire series on the topic here on TH-cam.
I must’ve had the best OBGYN ever in 2001 when I went menopausal AND it was right after the hault of the WHI study. She explained to me the flaws of the study and that if I didn’t take HRT my health would suffer. I waited a year because I was still afraid to take it but finally did so and now I feel very fortunate. When I told my girlfriends and sisters at the time they just looked at me in horror like I was about to die. Thank goodness there is more awareness and social media to get the information out. With that said we shouldn’t have to get informed this way. At 68 I’m still on HRT patch, vaginal estrogen and micronized progesterone.
Last year at this time I was miserable. Had gained 30 pounds in one year, heart racing, panic attacks, fainting spells, couldn’t sleep, hot flashes , night sweats. Allllll the things. I saw one of Angie’s videos on Menopause (thank you Angie!!!❤️) and decided to find a dr who would prescribe HRT (mine wouldn’t). Found Midi health and now I’m down 50 pounds, no more symptoms AT ALL. I fell like I’m 35 instead of 53. I’ve shared Dr Haver’s videos with at least a dozen women now!! Thank you thank you Dr Haver! You’re saving our lives ❤
I've been suffering with many of the same symptoms for the last 3 years (43-45), been gaslit by several docs including a "menopause specialist" obgyn who ended up just being a pellet pusher and who refused to treat until a year without a period. 🤦 Saw a Midi Health specialist via telehealth about a month ago and had a estradiol patch and oral progesterone the same day. It has completely fixed all my symptoms! A miracle!
I had the same symptoms. 4 visits to pcp and gyn. I was told I don't believe in giving hrt over 50. I sought a younger more up to date gyn. She was amazing. 2 months in my symptoms have all subsided. Not completely, but HRT is truly amazing
Is bioidentical hormones HRT that you’re referring to? I’m confused. My doctor said I don’t need bioidentical and to go with anything HRT? Thanks in advance!
For 8 years, I've dealt with horrible hot flashes. I'm a nurse, and has had how bad it is to do HRT (I have no risk factors), so I have resisted taking. In last 3 years, I've been dealing with palpitations, tinnitus, brain fog, joint pain, tired all the time, etc. Listening to the Dr I'm blown away. Just last month, done with hot flashes, I asked for HRT. Have not started, as there is a delay in getting the progesterone. I'm excited now to start. My mom, in her 80s, still takes estrogen since she was in her 40s, and she's always full of energy. I'm the one that feels like I'm in my 80s. I want to show this to my Gyn, who is my age, help her understand.
Thank you, Angie for this amazing discussion. I am 73. I feel like my generation was adversely affected because of that woman’s health study years ago. My daughter is 50. I told her to be sure to set herself up with a good doctor to avoid the uncomfortable symptoms I have experienced.
Honestly, medical terminology needs updating. Women of the world deserve apologies from Medical Institutions for continuing to use deflating and condescending language to describe women after 30. Examples: A woman after 30 is having a "geriatric" pregnancy and after 60/70 a woman has a senile vagina! Yep, get it that the ovaries are dying but its already hard enough. Change the language! After 40, already ageism is rife for getting a job or keeping a high level job.. Society had been shouting "not good enough", "work harder", "be more..of everything" all our lives... these conversations are crucial.. Thank you forever, Angie.. Your research and sharing elevates us. Women of all ages, we need to be seen, celebrated and respected far better globally...medically, socially, financially, professional, mentally, physically & emotionally.. Here's to women supporting women, and to healthy men and non-binary supporting their sisters... Angie, You are a leader. Respect & Love to you. ❤❤❤
@@mcd5478 As a nurse in labor and delivery for the past 17 years, it has never been termed geriatric where I’m employed. Like I said, 35 and over is Advanced Maternal Age. I happen to be in Southern California, USA.
I LOVE Dr Haver and Dr Stacy Sims. They seem to be the forerunners in the field of menopause ... I'm OVER doctors who don't listen to their patients. Thanks Angie for having Dr. Haver on H&F.
Mmm - yah, I love ❤️ DR. Stacy Sims😍 I recommend her alot in comments sections on SM - to women frustrated by, not only fitness advice...[but also ignorance of many physicians ignoring menopausal needs for their female patients]😮 BUT! Also fitness needs & advice, basically for men and generally BY men...but with no distinction whatever that they are advising women on their fitness needs, based almost entirely on MEN'S fitness studies 🙄. Previously unknown to many of us- but pointed out now by Dr. Sims.)
@@mcd5478, I started HRT at 64. I am mad as hell as well-but doctors had no training and were given bad, very bad information. It will take decades to get women back on track. At our age and since we missed the golden preventative years…our best approach is to be uber aggressive about our healthy lifestyle. And, take HRT so at least things don’t get worse! (I have horrific osteoporosis which cannot really be reversed to a great extent-working on it).
I wish Dr Haver and some of the newer social media menopause advocates would acknowledge others that have led the way in this era of openness and education, like Dr Barbara Taylor. I know that you have featured her a lot Angie and I guess her style might not suit everyone, but she’s been doing the educating and speaking up for years already. This was an excellent talk, and even though I try and keep myself educated, I learnt a few new things. So thank you for all you do in this space 🙌🏻❤️
Yes! Dr. Haver is wonderful and so is Dr Barbara Taylor - who pioneered me through menopause education and I still follow her and give her all the kudos!
My main symptoms were a little trouble sleeping and a little incontinence which I had accepted as “Well, at least I’m not having a hard time with menopause. I don’t need HRT.” And then I got a diagnosis of osteoporosis at the age of 53!!! I started estradiol patch with oral micronized progesterone and vaginal testosterone. Immediately I was sleeping SO WELL-in a way that I didn’t realize I was missing! I’m a month in and my incontinence is better. And I have started a comprehensive program with a trainer for strength and bones. We will see how it goes for the osteoporosis.
How did you get testosterone? My doctor told me no woman can take it unless transitioning. I’ve been trying to find the blend for similar symptoms but am unable to find any doctor to prescribe. Thanks for posting!!
@@laurasmith1675 My GYN prescribed it specifically to address my osteoporosis. It is not true that they don’t prescribe testosterone unless transitioning. Maybe that’s just your doctor’s standard due to lack of information. I would recommend to find a NAMS approved doctor. Or even take the peer reviewed literature to your current doctor to discuss your understanding of how it is used and why you would like to use it. They may have some valid reason why it’s not for you but to say there is no place for it unless transitioning is incorrect. We naturally have higher levels of testosterone than estrogen. It’s just so much lower than in males. Good luck!
40:20 time "So if your thyroid medication etc are being replaced because of loss why aren't hormones?" EXACTLY!! If this were a male issue it would have been studied till fixed and no questions asked. Viagra was covered by insurance before birth control pills....male beurocracy. This is sooooo helpful OMG THANK YOU LISAJ FOR HAVING THIS DOCTOR ON!!!! I'm turning 62 this year like Angie and just started bioidenticle hormones again from 8 years ago when I started bleeding, didn't know it was too much estrogen, got back on the pill to stop the "period". Not enough is known or being recognized for womens health!!
Great video. Post Menopausal here. Took me 1 year to find a Dr who put me on appropriate HRT. Just started 2 months ago and already seeing a positive difference. So thankful for social media because no doctor ever brought up HRT for my symptoms.
My doctor started ordering me bone density at 50 yrs old. I love that man!!! He will pretty much do any test I ask for as long as I can present him with some valid reason for it.
This is the exact same type of doctor I’m trying to replace! I’m exhausted. I need and demand a doctor that is the the best, thinks outside of the box and stays current.
This video prompted me to try My Alloy and I’m so grateful I came across it. I am 43 was feeling so horribly and had no idea why! I started hormones a couple weeks ago and am feeling a huge difference already. Thank you so much for helping women in our stage of life ❤
Thank you for this great Conversation. It may be cynical, but you don't earn money with healthy Women. When you look into the topic of HRT, you quickly realize, how many Diseases can be reduced or prevented. I myself had bad Heartpalpitations due to hormone changes. I was supposed to take Medication for the Rest of my Life. Then I started with progesterone and within 1 week I was fine. Women need to know this.
A doctor ( female) wrote a book stating estrogen will kill you . If you have problems we can give you stations for elevated cholesterol, antidepressants for bad mood and bisphosphonates for osteoporosis. ( In other words we will take care of you with drugs). So ,no you aren't being cynical.
So thankful! I had a complete hysterectomy 23 years ago. I had a couple of years trying different estrogens and have taken estradiol for 20 years. Thankful I had forward thinking doctors. I'm going to explore adding progesterone and testosterone
My menopause symptoms are 99% vaginal. EXTREME dryness, from one day to the next when I turned 50. I actually considered that not being here would be a better alternative than the hell I was experiencing 24/7. Burning, stinging, pain to the point that sitting hurt, wearing pants hurt, walking hurt. I tried lubes, aloe vera, coconut oil…everything!!! Constant bladder infections, multiple bladder scopes. IF I had sex, I would have pain, pressure, burning for 5-6 days after. Finally, my GYN gave me estrogen suppositories and my life got so much better. Then, when my periods stopped, I STOPPED sleeping. I would get MAYBE 2-3 hours a night. A new GYN finally put me on HRT. My life is 100% better! I still, after three years on it, have some vaginal issues, and need estradiol tablets internally + cream externally. I am now 57. I have sex 2-4 times a week, no more bladder infections, I sleep 9 hours a night and lift heavy weights 4-5 days a week. I will NEVER go off of HRT!
I was never going to stop Premarin. At 71 I was dx with breast cancer. It was estrogen positive so I had to stop. Now my weight is up and my tendons and muscles are not doing well.
Oooooh sister I hear you! I had the same issues and hated that I couldn't have sex without pain! I had the burning and pain at first I thought it was a yeast infection so I went to the "old" obgyn and he said that I was just dry! He offered no help and just clasped his hands together. I didn't understand the symptom of the burning though. I hadn't even had sex. Now I'm feeling better than I ever have on HRT!!!! HALLELUJAH! Also, my husband has been so loving and understanding. I'm happy for you!!
Well, glad that worked for you. I use the cream, but I have to say, sex is just still pretty uncomfortable. It doesn’t feel like knives, but definitely NOT comfortable. Even when I was taking oral HRT, it wasn’t great starting in my 50s.
My menopausal brain started feeling overwhelmed and fragmented with the info at about 25 minutes! Nothing negative toward the video, I’m just saying that’s my menopausal brain for you! lol!
Thank goodness for Dr Mary Claire Haver, after reading her New Menopause Book. Met with my Dr who is a menopause care physician, put me on HRT.. been on this for about 5 days and hoping to see more changes ❤
Angie , thank you SO much for asking the question about a 68 year old (I’m 69, almost 70) who isn’t a candidate for HRT. That is me…. I’ve been off HRT since age 50. I do all the things she mentioned including exercising, lifting heavy weights, I eat well, protein intake, avoiding sugar, I take collagen. Made me realize I’m doing as much as I can but need to continue.
THANK YOU! I passed this on to my adult daughters (49, 45, and 43) I had/have absolutely NO help. I'm 68 and had a blood clot when I was 13. NO Dr would help me in any way. All I heard was that I have to put up with all of my symptoms. I haven't found a Dr yet that will help me. I pray that my daughters (and granddaughters, when the time comes) get better care. xo
I just started using the patch and oral progesterone at 64, not sure if I’m out of the 10 year window but probably close if not just past it. I decided to use Alloy health after close to a decade of trying to find a Dr. who would help me and coming up disappointed every time. Best decision ever!
Im 67 & been menopausal since 55. Absolutely no symptoms or complaints. Asked my Dr about bioidentical hormones when I turned 56 & she said "why since I was in such good health." I feel for those who do have issues. My Dr said it could be that my diet contributed to no issues as I've eaten organic non-processed foods since the age of 14 & stear clear of seed oils, no alcoholic beverages & don't smoke. Exercise & lift weights. 💪
I've heard from the hrt doctors that diet has a huge influence on menopause symptoms. Hrt may be good for some people but sounds so difficult to find the right doctor and to know if you're getting the right treatment
Awesome you are staying well! Estrogen deficiency can cause osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s and heart disease. I kindly urge you to research this and replace estrogen to avoid these diseases.
Thank you stating this. Me too, "sailed through menopause. " reasons?? Never took birth control pills, no alcohol, no drugs, no cigarettes, clean living. No hot flashes. No sleep problems. This video sounds more like an infomercial for selling HRT.
@rw7206 I have done the research . I didn't mention exercise, but I've been weight lifting since the age of 18. Lifting is so good for the bones. I'm not knocking anyone who benefits from hrt, but I've never experienced any of the issues others have since being in menopause.
THANK YOU so much for this video! I started on HRT with my regular OBGYN who suggested lowest dose possible for the least amount of time possible. That was my sign to look for a menopause specialist. I went on the NAMS website and found a wonderful doctor who is open minded and willing to let me be a part of my menopause journey. I’m still symptomatic so I’m going to ask her to adjust my dosage and I don’t feel ‘scared’ to ask her for that. Having a doctor that listens makes such a huge difference 😊
Wow!! I am 44 and learned so much! My mom & aunt had a terrible time. My grandma seemed to have it relatively easy. She didn’t even know when she went through it exactly. So glad this is being learned about and spoken about. so no woman feels isolated or that there’s something wrong with her. ❤️
This was a very informative video Angie, eye opening in many ways, I just turned 62, I have never been on any HRT, I think I have lost my window of the 10 years, also I live in Canada, not the USA, not sure what steps to take, will reach out to my GP, to start a conversation, but I am hoping some of these things I can implement into my life! I am a healthy 62 years old who has always exercised but am now focusing more on lifting weights, never smoked and don’t drink, had a bone density scan this year, said no osteoporosis or osteopenia, I want to keep it that way! Thank you again! ❤
Hanging on every word. Millions of women in the world, yet we feel we are alone when we go through menopause. It isn't taboo to talk about anymore. So it is so important to educate. Being validated that what we feel is real, and we are not crazy. Thank you for this video. ❤
Thank you so very much for posting this. I'm a survivor of breast cancer and thought I couldn't take estrogen. Learning about vaginal estrogen gives me hope. I'm going to check with my oncologist, but I'm very hopeful. I've been fighting osteoporosis by taking K2, D3, and calcium with very small results. I've ordered Dr. Haver's books. Can hardly wait to read them.
I just checked, and my library has this book! Woo-hoo! Angie, I really enjoy your health videos. I have learned so much, and they spark me to do my own research. My PCP and gynecologist are doing the right things so far. I’m 61, and the nurse practitioner at my gynecologist’s office told me at my last checkup that I would have to go off HRT at age 70. If I am still seeing her by the time I approach that age, she and I will be having a discussion about this, and I will find a new provider if I need to do so. I plan on staying on HRT the rest of my life! PS… I am also on vaginal estrogen and have been told I can stay on that as long as I want to.
Such an important topic! Thank you for addressing this. I had to do my own research several years ago , and it was limited. I’m glad that that they decided against a cruise for the next event! I went on one and will never go again.
Thank you for providing info on this vital topic. I have spent the last 6-7 yrs trying to “tough it out”, trying to explains my symptoms to my primary doctor with no luck. My life is now so impacted that I had to do something. I had an eye opening appointment with Midi Health who’s NP validated all my issues were perimenopause and now finding through blood work (that no one else ordered) that may have a thyroid autoimmune disease also.
Been taking them 23 years .. both estrogen and progesterone…. I did try took three month to lower the dose and three months ago to get off I’m 72 … I had the worst three months ever night sweats , hot flashes , brain fog … I felt miserable went to doc and said I tried I can’t do it so I’m back on them been two weeks and my hot flashes are gone also the brain fog and night sweats .. I’m staying on for life.
THANK YOU!! In you're last video when you talked about menopause I thought was the best video you ever did, but nope, this one with Dr. Haver is. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! YOU ARE TRULY SAVING MY LIFE!!! Because of you I now have an appoint with a MSCP & NCMP doctor. Before you're video, I didn't know how CRITICAL THOSE CERTIFICATIONS ARE to receive the proper menopause treatment.
I'm an RN; thank you for utilizing an epidural with "toughness." Even though it doesn't play into menopause directly, this "prove your worth" in women starts so young.
My 59 year old mind is blown by this valuable information! Thank you Angie, for introducing me to Dr. Haver! And making me feel seen and heard with your comment that most women don’t know about menopause ❤ And thank you, Dr. Haver, for giving me the criteria I’ve been looking for to use in my search for a new doctor, to evaluate my complete health level and address body and mind changes that I didn’t realize were linked to menopause or hormone loss. I can’t wait to share this video with my sisters!
Wow- this is a packed full video of information I wish I had 15 years ago. I dealt with frozen shoulder and went through months of PT and finally had to have surgery to break up the cartilage. Hearing this, I know that was probably the wrong way to go. Now to find a doctor to guide me through this journey at my age. Thank you, thank you for this wonderful discussion.
I’m 68, was on HRT, then the WHI came out, then no more HRT. I’m healthy, 3 Docs have declined to rx HRT. I feel that women of my era have deprived of appropriate treatment.
I am one of those who refused HRT because I had a family history of breast cancer, mother and paternal grandmother. At 66 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, so I got it anyway! I really wish now I would've taken the HRT, but at 68, I am past that window the Dr. spoke of. Since I am on post cancer medication, I am unable to use estradials. It's very frustrating! Thank you, Angie, for asking the Dr about our age group! Kudo's to Justin for taking part! Great conversation and very informative! I am naturally thin, so I just ordered a weighted vest and will be wearing that daily!
This video gave me so much hope! I feel horrible and am willing to fight for HRT. I also am really curious about estrogen for the face! That sounds like a miracle!
Thanks to Dr. Haver, I walked into my gynecologist’s office armed with a list of things I wanted to do. He was game to try it all and I’m now on the 0.1% estradiol patch and 100mg of oral progesterone and are waiting to see if I need the vaginal estradiol. Thank you for shining a light on her!!
My mum was on HRT for years and is now 93 and in good shape. I am 63, so I am the generation that was scared off HRT. I have had a relatively mild transition - apart from a lot of hot flashes I did not have symptoms. But I wish that I had been on HRT when I transitioned because of all the health benefits. I am so angry that a whole generation of women was scared off HRT. It is too late for me - so I try to do what I can to be healthy as I get older - lifting heavy (which I have come to love), eating protein, jumping and doing sprint interval training (though I hate it 😬)
@@MGSpecial2023 Regarding starting HRT in late postmenopause , Marie Claire Haver said in the video that it would depend on different things eg the calcification of your arteries, if you still have symptoms. But sadly I don’t trust my doctor to do the right tests to see if I could be a candidate. It seems like (some of) the US doctors are better - in Denmark where I live there is no conversation about menopause🙁
Thank you for making these videos. Very much appreciate all you do on this subject. I wanted to put it out there that there is some valid controversy around The Menopause Society - aka The North American Menopause Society, so everyone please do your research. It’s a bit shocking that Dr Haver charges $1,800 for an hour long appointment.
Post menopausal care and HRT should be included in the healthcare regime for EVERY WOMAN, not just those that can pay extra. It should be fully covered by insurance, the same as peri/post-natal or regular medical care, or medication for other medical issues. To my disgust, after my HRT appointment with my Gyne, I received a survey from my very large, well-known, medical group in San Diego. There was only one question - if I would pay extra to go to a women's HRT/menopause clinic. I answered NO !!! The survey didn't even give an opportunity to expand on your response, just yes or no. Women are 50% of the population and our health, over our entire lifespan, deserves to be taken into account.
Thank you SO much, Angie. I have been watching Dr Haver for a few weeks now and I am about to have my first perimenopause specific appointment to address this barrage of symptoms I’ve been dealing with. I’m 40 and I have almost every item on the 80 point checklist. So many people dismiss our experiences as something else, but Dr Haver has made feel so empowered to push for what I know I need. ❤
Thank you so much Angie for sharing your conversation with Dr. Haver! Thank you also to YOU for spreading the information and sharing incredible content creators like Dr Haver and Dr Taylor. If it were not for watching your channel, I would not have found Dr. Taylor's channel. In one of her lessons she said something that just blew my mind. She said we should be looking at menopause as a state of estrogen deficiency. That really hit me and I started thinking about it. She also talked about lack of estrogen and osteoporosis, heart disease, and dementia. My mom was in the throes of dementia at the time as well as my mother-in-law and now my stepmom. None of them had HRT. I'm on HRT now. The information you share on your channel is so incredibly valuable! Please keep up the good work.
I can truly testify that vaginal estrogen can prevent uti's. I suffered from uti's for several years. Was prescribed several rounds of antibiotics. Had a battle with breast cancer. It was my cancer doctor who took me off the hormone blocker and prescribed vaginal estrogen cream. I have not had a UTI since.
ANGIE!! That discussion was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Dr. Mary Claire really covered so many great pieces of menopause. I especially loved that there was a part covering how the men in our lives can support us. ♥
Thank you so much for this! I’m 54 & Have been to 2 female providers (both 52) & one said no, the other lectured a lot about cancer risks and would only recommend bio identical pellets. My OB/Gyn (54) is on HRT but said for me to hold off since I’m still having a period off & on… said I have hormones and to just wait until it gets “much worse”…. I brought Dr Haver’s name up to all 3 providers and asked them to please do more research (which I’m sure they hated). So I’m still on the journey and not giving up just yet.
Thank you Angie for this video, so informative. I was on HRT after going through menopause at age 44, until I had to discontinue two years ago at age 48 bc I was diagnosed with very early stage estrogen receptor positive breast cancer, that has already been removed and am now on anti-estrogen hormonal therapy. There was a discussion in this video very briefly on women who have had breast cancer, but would you make a video specifically on the options available for women like me? I would love to hear from a doctor who is a breast cancer survivor or has treated cancer patients in the menopause. I sometimes am disheartened with the discussions on increased heart disease and osteoporosis risk in women like me who are not even yet 50 and hope to have a long healthy life. Thank you :)
Excited to watch! Knowledge is power! Hope you have a lovely weekend Angie and thank you to your guests for sharing such important information!🌼🪴🌸🌿
@@AngieHotandFlashy2 weeks ago the brand of Estradiol patch was replaced with the only generic available in my state.. I had a serious reaction and spent many hours and days trying to find the Sandoz patch and was told there is a shortage.....But plenty of the generic. That I cannot take.
Wow, just absolutely fabulous. Thank you Angie! It’s because of you, Dr Taylor, Dr Haveral, Dr Menn, Dr Rubin and all the online menopausey that I’m on the right path at 54. ❤
I am 61 and post menopausal for about 12 years now. I did take BHRT once I had gone a year without a cycle. The first things I noticed was insomnia, hot flashes and brain fog. About 8 years ago, I experienced a week of bleeding and my husband freaked out. He suggested I stop the BHRT. He was also afraid because he found my patch on his side of the bed and thought he might grow breast- 😂. I reluctantly went off the BHRT. Now I’m experiencing low libido, frozen shoulder, along with the return of all the other symptoms. My husband begged me to go back on and I jumped at the chance. My Kaiser Doc. refused so I went to Forum health online. I kid you not, the second day of my return to BHRT, NO MORE FROZEN SHOULDER! Fewer hot flashes, and sleeping like a baby. My libido has not returned but there is no pain during intimacy. My husband is happy again, and I am never going off BHRT again!❤
I'm in tears watching this. I was on HRT years ago after a full hysterectomy. My Dr wanted me off. Is it too late for me to go back on HRT? I'M now about 60lbs+ overweight. I was never overweight my entire life. I was taking Premarin.
IMO it's not too late. I have been on estrogen since I was 38, after I had a complete hysterectomy. My Dr. waited about a month before starting me on estrogen (pills). I'm now 64 and still taking them daily. I just had a bone density test a few weeks ago and it was normal. I hope to stay on estrogen until I meet my maker. 🙂
Life changing! Thank you for providing this opportunity to learn about menopause and the current thinking. And kudos to Justin for being a part of the conversation. This video was so enlightening to this 65 yo viewer!
Thank you for this. I turned 51 in September and started HRT in May. I live in the UK so without your channel, I would have not come across Dr Haver. (Dr Newsom is the UK equivalent :).
Oh Angie, as an older woman this was so helpful for me. What a great video for all. I will look for this woman and subscribe to her channel. Thank you.
At 65 and a half, I just recently discovered Dr. Haver and her information. I have two daughters who are entering their 30's and this information gives me hope for them. I hit menopause right at 40 and no doctor batted an eye. I very briefly had a doctor who prescribed bioidentical hormone creams but the realities of Obama-care destroyed my compounding pharmacy (no compounding pharmacists at the "big" pharmacies")...it also dealt the final straw for that doctor to leave her practice. No other doctor would prescribe hormones for me. Now, I feel a bit sad that I may have missed the boat. I did see a "Functional medicine" practitioner but she said it is too late for me to use estrogen, except vaginally. Listening to this makes me hopeful that I may still be able to use estrogen systemically to hold on to the health I do have. I am very thankful for all women that this information is coming to light. This was a beautiful conversation to listen in on.
I am so happy your shared your update a few weeks back. Since then I have gone to my doctor mid year… gotten labs checked and did determine I’m most likely heading towards menopause. I’ve had palpitations, hair loss, vertigo, brain fog , anxiety fatigue you name it but never quite thought about perimenopause. But thanks to your video updates on your own health I’m following this amazing group of docs as well: luckily I’m 49 and it’s a good time to be learning about what’s happening now, and what’s to come and how to deal with it. 🥰🤗
I’ve suffered with hormonal imbalance since I was 13 (puberty) mainly acne on my face & back and painful periods when I was younger. Only the contraceptive pill worked but in my early 20s I decided to go “natural”. Nothing worked except DIM which cleared my skin about 70- 80%. Now I’m 41 and I knew instinctively perimenopause would mess with my skin - sure enough, cysts started appearing on my face and back and I had insomnia and many other symptoms. My GP was up-skilled in women’s health thank goodness and put me on a low dose of micronised progesterone, plus recommended good diet, exercise, supplements etc. I’m finally sleeping and my skin is better. I would never go back to natural remedies only, but rather use them as a support.
I wish they covered cyclic HRT vs static. Daily progesterone is not the way the body naturally works . Estrogen works better when opposed by progesterone only half the month. Dr. Felice Gersh videos are excellent and explain this so well. Thanks for this video though
FanTAStic vid Angie! Thanx so much for sharing this experience with your fan audience here. Life changing info is life saving. I need all of this info as I'm wading my way through POST meno and there's very little said about this for those who have already weathered the ups and downs of the early journey but haven't had much guidance info on the years beyond. Sooo helpful and necessary for every woman who goes through the natural course of life for the majority of women. (there are those who've had to make surgical decisions, etc. for other reasons and this is not that course but still contains needed info for all women). Thanks for introducing people like myself to Dr. Haver. I'm sending a link to friends and family as we ALL need the info Dr. Haver shares here. I loved and appreciated the access you provided for us in this post.
This was fabulous. Love every single one of you on this podcast. Each of you provide the best quality researched information for your communities. Thank you.
Good Morning, Angie!😊❤. WOW! What an absolute gift this video is to so many. This discussion was so rich with information and guidance for all of us. Thank you! I’ve been on HRT going on four years and it was the best thing I ever did. At five years the discussion was that I would go off, but that’s not happening! Lol. I feel much more armed with information, and so much knowledge in regard to this whole field. I will most certainly be buying this book and continuing to learn more! I am most curious about testosterone now… Thank you so much again!💜💜💜💜 I
Honestly this was such an impactful conversation for me. I’m searching for a certified doctor on the Menopause Society site right now and purchasing The New Menopause Book! Thank you so much for sharing, Angie!
I strongly recommend a REMS scan NOT DEXA….do the research Angie. You do on everything else. REMS provides density and quality. No radiation. Not dependent on a location. Also - what was not mentioned is checking bone turnover markers. It’s crucial on evaluating bone health. I wish Dr Haver would address the new mammogram guidelines and the JAMA article.
I'm sure Dr Haver addressed this on her IG page or TH-cam videos. I've followed her so long that I'm not second guessing her recommendations because she put her heart and soul it.
Hi Angie. I have been a subscriber for a few years. I appreciate your great advice on hair and skin care and I have learned a lot about the importance of self-care. For me, this video is the most important one that you have posted and thank you so much for your efforts to bring this vital information to us. I hope that it gets millions and millions of views. I have come to view you as not just a beauty content provider but an advocate for mature women.
Can we PLEASE get Mary Claire Haver in a room with Dr. Jen Gunter to discuss their widely different interpretations of this research they both claim to scour through with a fine tooth comb? It’s so frustrating and I don’t know who/what to believe!
Were their interpretations so widely different? I read Gunters email about her study analysis and it was excellent and detailed and enlightening on many things. She said there would be a part 2 that I haven't seen yet. Dr. Haver does these quick social media posts on it and I found it lacked the details that Gunter went in to but overall it seemed they both saw the initial study as flawed. I appreciated Gunters more methodical analysis but what were they so far apart on in your reading or listening?
Thank for educating women on this . Society punishes you for aging and menopause is a grey area where women do not have information . Thank you Angie for this great video !
My personal experience with menopause; At 53 I started having extreme hot flushes. My skin dried up, my v dried up. I started taking HRT, the hot flushes slowly stopped, my sex drive returned. Then with the COVID lockdown, I lost access to my hrt. The hot flushes didn't return, thank goodness. My skin was terrible though, it felt like crocodile scales, I got pimples for the first time since my teens! Then I went back on the hrt and it got a lot better. My skin is just terribly oily now.
I am 37 (almost 38) and this information can really be invaluable to me. I feel fortunate to be learning about all of this now so that I can be aware and educated on what to do when the time comes. Great video!
@@georgiabessie If you didn't go through your providers, how were you able to get the HRT? I'm 64 and have never been on HRT, but I am certainly interested.
@@SheilaJames-sg5gi I went the bioidentical pellet route. I live in a very rural area. I get an estrogen and testosterone pellet. I take 100mg of progesterone every night. I also use estradiol vaginal cream 2-3x a week. I do the Sottopelle method. I’m in college. One of my women’s health professors work at the place.
My Dr took me off Estriadol because she said I was past all the symptoms. I told my primary care that an article was released in April that debunks all the old theories about being on estrogen. I also believe if you've had a hysterectomy there's not much producing anything anymore and so she told me Hopkins has a Menopause Specialist. Geez it's a year to get in but I'm in hot pursuit! I agree that we still need a little! My sister in law got the locked shoulder after menopause due to all those estrogen receptors in your shoulder. I know your organs need it. When I went through surgical (instant) menopause, my adrenal glands and my thyroid quit. I was put on steroids for 8 years before I was weaned off and my adrenals kicked in. I'm still on thyroid meds. They told me without your adrenal glands, you die. I was very angry they took both ovaries. Fortunately, I'm pretty healthy now but I believe their is more. Thank you for having Dr. Haver on!
I agree with Angie try Tele health-alloy. There's zero reason for you to be off HRT. I remember someone talking about her mom being taken off HRT and thereafter being diagnosed with alzeimers. There was nothing that could be done then. That's just a horrible consequence that patients endure because doctors are not educated enough. I hope you're back on HRT sooner rather than later. Remember it's preventative, it cannot do anything once diseases start.
@@latherandlace this is something that is pertinent to be dealt with ASAP.... even if it's an out of pocket expense. The deterioration of your health will not wait until you're financially able to tend to it. I do hope you figure a way to deal with it .
Thank you for posting this incredibly important conversation Angie. Dr. Mary Claire is my doctor and your format here was literally the best I’ve seen. This will be the one that I share with my nieces and young friends…and also with my peers who also fell victim to the Women’s Health Study like me. Much gratitude! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Angie what were the supplements/vitamins or scripts that were discussed when talking about the bone loss in the jaw. Y’all talked about a couple of people who had lost teeth and couldn’t get implants because the loss of bone in the jaw. Dr Mary Claire Haver is THEE best!!❤
And what about the hair loss? This is initially the reason why you consulted.
You were 49, and no doctor clued in to the fact that you were in menopause? Wtf.
👏👏👏 kudos to you on seeking you best interest . It's amazingly distressing knowing women go through this for treatment.
It really is shocking & sad how much doctors don't know about all the symptoms of menopause... I'm so happy you're getting the help you need!
How is you hair doing?
I’m 68 and started HRT last year. I was using estradiol patch and progesterone. .075 mg dose patch. I started bleeding and extremely sore breasts. My gynecologist did a D&C to see if I had cancer. All clear and he put me back on HRT. I decided to decrease my dose by cutting my patch in two. I feel better with no symptoms. In fact my urinary incontinence has improved. I’m saying all this to help others because we are the group left out but don’t have to be❤️
Wow a very low dose caused bleeding...
It is normal to have breakthrough bleeding when starting HRT. However, as long as you're getting relief from symptoms that's most important because that means you're avoiding the big 3 diseases.
@MBT372 everyone's body can respond differently. I'm 2 weeks into MHT and haven't had any bleeding, yet, on 0.025 Estrodial and 2.25 Progestin
I'm 57 and getting ready to start patch and progesterone due to symptoms. Thank you for this information!
What an amazing doctor!
The study came out in 2002.
Me as well, but I stopped it and now 16 years later, I have 20 symptoms and miserable
A miracle!
❤
I had the same symptoms. 4 visits to pcp and gyn. I was told I don't believe in giving hrt over 50. I sought a younger more up to date gyn. She was amazing. 2 months in my symptoms have all subsided. Not completely, but HRT is truly amazing
Is bioidentical hormones HRT that you’re referring to? I’m confused. My doctor said I don’t need bioidentical and to go with anything HRT? Thanks in advance!
@@tanyakowalski6994 from what I understand, "bio-identical" is a marketing term. They're all bioidentical.
I love that Justin attended and was supportive of his wife!!! Kudos to him! ❤

Justin is terrific and his channel is excellent!

The terminology for woman over 35 having babies is “AMA , advanced material age” it is not “geriatric” over 30.
Not in Australia or in Ireland! Nice to know it's not as bad elsewhere..
As an RN, I TOTALLY AGREE!!
The terminology, created by men, keeps women’s health in the dark ages. Words matter.
@mossyoakmom8880 as an RN that worked in neonatal intensive care “geriatric pregnancy” was definitely used in the past (in the USA).
@@mcd5478 As a nurse in labor and delivery for the past 17 years, it has never been termed geriatric where I’m employed. Like I said, 35 and over is Advanced Maternal Age. I happen to be in Southern California, USA.
Justin, I commend you for sitting through this conversation. Your wife is a lucky lady. Kudos to you.
Yes, I’m always impressed when they sit on a panel or do interviews on this subject. He actually looks interested too! 😀
I'm 56 and just started last month.....wish I would have started sooner. Was scared because of all the lack of information I had. I feel 💯better.
Love Dr Haver. Where do we find these studies?
I LOVE Dr Haver and Dr Stacy Sims. They seem to be the forerunners in the field of menopause ... I'm OVER doctors who don't listen to their patients. Thanks Angie for having Dr. Haver on H&F.
It was such a gift to be able to interview her!
Agree!!! 👍🏼 I’m 64 and I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!!
Mmm - yah, I love ❤️ DR. Stacy Sims😍
I recommend her alot in comments sections on SM - to women frustrated by, not only fitness advice...[but also ignorance of many physicians ignoring menopausal needs for their female patients]😮
BUT! Also fitness needs & advice, basically for men
and generally BY men...but with no distinction whatever that they are advising women on their fitness needs, based almost entirely on MEN'S fitness studies 🙄.
Suzanne Summer etc as well.
@@laurasmith1675
My GYN prescribed it specifically to address my osteoporosis. Good luck!
I’m 40 and I can’t THANK YOU enough for advocating and using your platform to educate. I’m so grateful to you, Angie.
22:42 most important thing in my opinion: if you start soon after menopause, you can have hrt until the end of your life 🎉
My doctor started ordering me bone density at 50 yrs old. I love that man!!! He will pretty much do any test I ask for as long as I can present him with some valid reason for it.
You are blessed
This is the exact same type of doctor I’m trying to replace!
I’m exhausted.
I need and demand a doctor that is the the best, thinks outside of the box and stays current.
Mine too. He’s a family practice dr and I ask for blood work to check something and he always writes an order for it.
I have heard Dr Haver before. She is AWESOME! Thank YOU for sharing
OMG, I'm so sorry you had to go through that but so happy you got HRT & relief & got your life back!
I pray that my daughters (and granddaughters, when the time comes) get better care. xo
Try Carnivore diet
Angie, You are so beautiful and genuine. Thank you for your authenticity 🙏
I just started using the patch and oral progesterone at 64, not sure if I’m out of the 10 year window but probably close if not just past it. I decided to use Alloy health after close to a decade of trying to find a Dr. who would help me and coming up disappointed every time. Best decision ever!
New study..you can start hrt anytime in menopauze..
Thank you for sharing your experience. Im 61 and it’s so hard getting information for women my age wanting to try HRT.
Looking to start HRT at 67, 16 years after menopause
I’m 61 and just started Patch and progesterone too
Im 67 & been menopausal since 55. 💪
You are doing the right thing by having led a healthy lifestyle and continuing to do so.
Applaud Justin for listening and supporting this discussion! He is amazing in another way! Bravo
I'm an RN; thank you for utilizing an epidural with "toughness." Even though it doesn't play into menopause directly, this "prove your worth" in women starts so young.
Thank you for the great conversation, Angie! We have to spread the word ourselves as women. You are doing wonderful work!
My 59 year old mind is blown by this valuable information! Thank you Angie, for introducing me to Dr. Haver! And making me feel seen and heard with your comment that most women don’t know about menopause ❤
And thank you, Dr. Haver, for giving me the criteria I’ve been looking for to use in my search for a new doctor, to evaluate my complete health level and address body and mind changes that I didn’t realize were linked to menopause or hormone loss.
I can’t wait to share this video with my sisters!
This was a fantastic conversation. Thank you, Angie!
Alloy health.... and Dr
Haver has all providers linked on her Galveston page
Just started this video and have to say that I respect and appreciate that Justin is part of this discussion.
I’m 68, was on HRT, then the WHI came out, then no more HRT. I’m healthy, 3 Docs have declined to rx HRT. I feel that women of my era have deprived of appropriate treatment.
Me too i am angry
Breast cancer is only 10% hereditary. It's the environmental factors and diet. Then the decline in hormones.
All the toxins we ingest.
This video gave me so much hope! I feel horrible and am willing to fight for HRT. I also am really curious about estrogen for the face! That sounds like a miracle!
I love that you ladies included Justin in this conversation. Every woman deserves this discussion. Dr Haver is amazing. Thank you
hes happy he is getting some
Dr. Haver has been a lifesaver! The education I have received from her has inspired me to reclaim my life and my health.
It is too late for me - so I try to do what I can to be healthy as I get older - lifting heavy (which I have come to love), eating protein, jumping and doing sprint interval training (though I hate it 😬)
I feel this anger and frustration. Good for you for jumping into all the other stuff. ❤
I'm angry about it too... menopausal women have been failed over the last 20 years 😡
My Drs still don't have a clue. But please note that it's not too late to start on HRT as preventative. It helps with so many things post menopause
SAME! 😭😤
Dr Mary Claire Haver simply the best lady you have had on your show to talk about hormones. So passionate and giving. Love her.
Feel free to use my story if you wish. The more women who are saved from this story, the better.
Me too. Vaginal estrogen
I’m 38 and so grateful for this information 🙏🏻✨
ANGIE!! That discussion was amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Dr. Mary Claire really covered so many great pieces of menopause. I especially loved that there was a part covering how the men in our lives can support us. ♥
Pure GOLD, Angie! Thank you for posting this!
I've been on estrogen for 16 years.I would definitely recommend bio identical. It comes in many forms not just pellets.
Don’t give up! Find the right Dr for you. HRT has improved my life 💯. I’m 53, been on the HRT pellet >1 year. Good luck to you
Amazing! Thank you! I’m 65 stopped using HRT 1.5 years ago.. my body has definitely Let me know it was a huge mistake.
Mind blowing information!! This is the best 50min education I have had. Thank you so much for sharing!!
At 50 I was lied to about that study that HRT was bad. I am soooo full of symptoms and so angry. Trying to find help again after 16 years.
I’m 63 and just went on HRT. So grateful for the latest study. And Alloy. Hoping Kaiser will get current soon
Doctors look for fixes I’m not convinced I should be doing any of it.
Me too! 😢
Thank you so much, Angie, for this video. It definitely would be amazing if you could get Dr. Haver on your channel.
Excited to watch! Knowledge is power! Good Friday morning welcome back to your own space 😊Thank you as always for sharing with us and again it is wonderful to have information about this time in women’s lives!! Hope you have a lovely weekend Angie and thank you to your guests for sharing such important information!🌼🪴🌸🌿
Agree! Having this information has helped me so much! Happy Friday! 💜
Oh no!
Wow, just absolutely fabulous. Thank you Angie! It’s because of you, Dr Taylor, Dr Haveral, Dr Menn, Dr Rubin and all the online menopausey that I’m on the right path at 54. ❤
So lucky to listen to you at the age of 42, so I can make good decisions for my health. Thanks!!
What do you take and what mg?@@susaninsocal550
I wish I would’ve known about dim back in the day
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Thank you.
Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much for this episode! I had breast cancer and look forward to be able to returning to HRT in the next year or so.
@@itsme_shantiThe more information, the better. As this video speaks, information is evolving.
What are the new mammogram guidelines
Thanks for the tips! I'll look into it! We filmed this video about 3 weeks ago so the new mammogram guidelines & JAMA article weren't out yet.
I trust Dr. Gunter because she’s not peddling supplements, diet plans, etc!
Loved seeing Justin on the panel, too! His channel is GREAT!
Angie, thanks for all your menopause education videos! ❤
You're so welcome!
Thanks for sharing your experience!
I am 37 (almost 38) and this information can really be invaluable to me. I feel fortunate to be learning about all of this now so that I can be aware and educated on what to do when the time comes. Great video!
Yes .. my dr said I was as too old to keep taking it 66 ..so went tele health ❤ALLOY❤❤
Im also 66. Never been on hrt. Going to start estradiol patch .025 and progesterone 200 Mc. What did they put you in?
I’m also 66. Stated HRT last year after providers refused (for years). I do the pellets. And I haven’t felt this good in years. Never going back.
I just looked at Alloy’s medications. Do they not offer progesterone and testosterone?
@@georgiabessie If you didn't go through your providers, how were you able to get the HRT? I'm 64 and have never been on HRT, but I am certainly interested.
@@SheilaJames-sg5gi
I went the bioidentical pellet route. I live in a very rural area. I get an estrogen and testosterone pellet. I take 100mg of progesterone every night. I also use estradiol vaginal cream 2-3x a week. I do the Sottopelle method. I’m in college. One of my women’s health professors work at the place.
Angie thank you so much for facilitating this. I’m 43 and am so thankful that this information is available as I prepare for my menopause journey. ❤
Haver on!
I'm so happy you have the appointment! I wonder if you could use one of the tele-health services in the interim?
I agree with Angie try Tele health-alloy. There's zero reason for you to be off HRT. I remember someone talking about her mom being taken off HRT and thereafter being diagnosed with alzeimers. There was nothing that could be done then. That's just a horrible consequence that patients endure because doctors are not educated enough. I hope you're back on HRT sooner rather than later. Remember it's preventative, it cannot do anything once diseases start.
@@itsme_shanti MY insurance doesn't cover it
@@AngieHotandFlashy she doesn't do them.
@@latherandlace this is something that is pertinent to be dealt with ASAP.... even if it's an out of pocket expense. The deterioration of your health will not wait until you're financially able to tend to it. I do hope you figure a way to deal with it .
