  • The band that almost got hired as Peter Gabriel’s backup band (after he left Genesis) instead recorded two stone cold classics for Arista Records. We take a look at that great American Prog band - Happy The Man.

    Hello Scott, My name is LeeAnne Whitaker (wife of Stanley Whitaker guitarist vocalist from Happy The Man) I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your exuberance and some of the story of HTM. It is always great to hear their music being shared. Feel welcome to be in touch. Stay healthy and happy.

    I recently discovered this channel on Just JP and wanted to thank you for highlighting Happy The Man. There are a top 10 or 20 bands that most prog fans know about but HTM somehow eludes a lot of prog fans. You really have a fun informed take the prog world. Good luck with your channel!

    Blessed to DC native progfan 🙏 when HTM appeared locally. Saw them at THE CELLAR DOOR and fell DEEPLY in 🥰 love. Stunning pure Prog with all-star lineups. I agree that the 2 Debuts are the MASTERPIECES any Proglivwr must have BUT I don't diminished a tbe other releases at all. There's just something innately blissful about their style! MUSE is Wonderful! 3rd is Incredible too where lots of Kit's songs recorded also on his Solo and one with 🐫 CAMEL. Still wish MORE so-called Proggers would hear them snd appreciate their underappreciated BEAUTY. THANK TOU for mentioning the other American bands esp. HANDS, CATHEDRAL etc..more hidden gems from the heydey of the genre 😀

    Kit Watkins is the most underrated keyboard vituoso of the prog era with Alan Gowen (Gilgamesh, National Health) and David Sancious (Tone).

    • @chukrock
      @chukrock 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheProgCorner I feel that many Prog bands are let down by less-than-stellar vocals. The lead vocals often seem to be an afterthought to the magnificent musical arrangements and performances. This is why Kansas is one of my favourites. Steve Walsh was a fantastic vocalist/keyboardist. They had it all!

    • @TheProgCorner
      @TheProgCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree 100% with that. That’s why new bands like Evership excite me: excellent vocalist.

    • @dangerdolls
      @dangerdolls 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chukrock Good call. I like a lot of primarily instrumental bands for that reason. If a band has a vocalist it is worth time to find a good one rather than just let one of the instrumentalists do it which is what I think frequently happens.

    • @TheProgCorner
      @TheProgCorner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Modern Prog is littered with bad singing. That’s why when a new band comes along with a strong vocalist it’s pretty exciting!!! Drifting Sun’s new album with Jargon on vocals is a good example. Also Evership!!!
