    Just such a genuine moment. David showing him the award up close off mic, its truly not a show of ego, HDS truly deserved every possible award, and his old friend Lynch handing it to him like that is so sweet

      I heard him say in an interview that Marlon Brando taught him Shakespeare but especially that particular quote. LUCKY was a brilliant way to finish such a career.

    Great speech but I think he was taking The Tempest out of context. Shakespeare, or Prospero, was referring to the theater, not necessarily life.

      The guy's been an actor for, what, 60 years? Theater *was* his life. Well, that and music and cigarettes.

    • @socalvillaguy
      @socalvillaguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was most certainly a metaphor for life, but specifically, Shakespeare's life, begging leave of the Elizabethan audience for he felt he was nearing the end of his best years (Prospero continues on that theme in Act V). Whether The Bard starting feeling his age -- in his 50's of all things! -- or perhaps creative exhaustion, it remains to be seen why he telegraphed his "retirement" in this way. He only wrote a few more plays after The Tempest.

      For me who knows nothing of Shakespeare I thought he was quoting the Bible at first but then I realized it must've been someone like Shakespeare anyway I thought it was a gorgeous musing on existence
