@@cycothereal I mean after the PRC is overthrown; it would obviously be impossible for Hong Kong to be independent while the CCP is in power.
But the key thing is, most people in Hong Kong don't identify as Chinese, or 'Mainlanders'. For the most part they identify as Hongkongers, and I certainly envisage that they would push for self-determination once the CCP is overthrown.
However, it would also be a better alternative for Hong Kong to be under ROC/Taiwan control rather than under PRC control _these days,_ but the PRC most definitely would not allow it. If the ROC makes an official claim to Hong Kong, plants the flag of Taiwan on Hong Kong, and tries to set up an extension of the ROC government over there, the CCP would absolutely declare war on the ROC.
