This is really interesting and definitely a list for fans of this kind of stuff. It's the kind of conversation or list that you would chat about with your buddies at a show. I feel like long "epic" songs are hard to pull off. My favorite is probably "The Great Escape" by Seventh Wonder. I won't say that I got it the first time I listened to it, but when it clicked, it became one of my favorite songs period. Other long songs I like is "When All is Lost" by Symphony X and "Count of Tuscany" by Dream Theater. I will check some of these out though, because i've never actually seen a list like this, but I do like the concept and just the fact you are taking it from a fan perspective. This type of list will appeal to a certain audience for sure.

Thanks. I love the Symphony X and Dream Theater examples you gave. Based on my understanding of your taste (progressive power metal and more melodic traditional progressive heavy metal), I think you'd like the ones on my list from Azure, Turbulence, Vanden Plas, Hourglass and DGM best but I'm curious to hear which ones you end up liking if you check any out.

I should have mentioned: I disqualified any where the epic was broken up into multiple tracks so that's why Caligula's Horse Charcoal Grace and Beardfish Out in the Open aren't here even though they would have been if they were actually 1 track.
