  • Soursop is the fruit of Annona muricata, a broadleaf, flowering, evergreen tree. The exact origin is unknown; it is native to the tropical regions of the Americas and the Caribbean and is widely propagated. It is in the same genus, Annona, as cherimoya and is in the Annonaceae family.

Do you have trouble with bacterial or fungal diseases ( black spots on leaves, specifically)? I do and I'm in Central Florida. Thank you for your soursop videos.

Yes at the end of the summer season all of our sour trees started developing fungus and black spots on the leaves. I think it was attributed to the constant rain we've had everyday during the summer along with the humidity. We are in Central FL as well. We ended up plucking off all the infected leaves and starting fresh.

Do your soursops go brown and lose any leaves overwinter? Is that normal behavior?

It can lose its leaves when it too cold outside but they will come back if it wasn't damaged extensively by the low temperature < 45 degrees Farenheit. It can set back for fruit production so it's best to try to protect it with a frost cloth or bring it inside for the winter.
