I bought the Levante a month ago. I am super happy with it. I test drove the Cayenne and it drove nice but the Maserati is just awesome.
The smart move is to get a cayenne for its reliability and quality , but my heart says maserati for its sound , engine , style and it has a soul

I own one Levante 2019 (MY2019) and I have to say it's the best SUV for true driving-lovers so far, even compare to URUS. I also tried 2018/19 Macan & Cayenne and then turned to Levante straightaway without hesitation.

You can't put price for certain things. This car has a soul.
Powered up California indeed, it has SOUL. And it has an old, hefty style luxurious feel to it. Analog gauges and real bezels. The subtle chrome details in the interior. I live that hand crafted organic look. I’m all for digital screens but too many of the current cars are too digital and those screens aren’t good for the eyes anyway.

Tailgate sensor is not for sideways foot motion. It works with "in and out" motion 100% of the time. And of course you could have heated and ventilated seats and heated steering wheel.
I have the Maserati GT,and hope to add the Lavante Tropheo to my collection soon.

Owned a Maserati years ago, it was a garage queen, by that I mean it was alway waiting for a new part. Fun, yes, cool, yes, but it’s Italian and that means cheap and poorly done. Now I am too old to put up with that crap so I bought a Cayenne turbo. What a machine, and it always works perfectly
That is my mindset, I drive a Cayenne, can't get over it, every day I drive it and get more enjoy... I am shopping around for 2nd SUV, I have only one on my list : Cayenne, second one...

Nice to see a semi-positive review of the Levante! Everyone else seems to absolutely hate it, mostly because it's vastly overpriced for what you get
Drove both the Cayenne and Levante and thought the Maser was better in every way. Handling, comfort, luxury and looks. The rear of the new Cayenne looks like a Lincoln.
It`d be pretty interesting to see a Lancia SUV, thou... they don`t exist anymore :(

I don't get it, the cars it competes with are faster and more luxurious, yeah the Maserati name is exotic but if they keep making cheaper cars like these it will be a common name and lose its appeal quick
Not to mention many people have caught on to FCA and there bs. Maseratti use to be a top of the line brand but now it's a cheaply made outed car for the price of luxury.
One more thing- when I was leasing mine AD substantially discounted ## , otherwise I would not even consider it

The Volkswagen Cayenne Touareg or the FCA Levante....both expensive, both share parts with lesser vehicles.....one German, one italian, one is perceived as perfect the other no so much..both are extremely good vehicles!

Maserati The Range Rover and Jaguar compete strongly with its high performance and beauty values, but the agents, especially in Saudi Arabia, need to support young men and women in marketing through maintenance and spare parts at a reasonable price... 👌

Neither, Jaguar FPace SVR which is bargain priced with 550bhp, some off-road pedigree and certainly more beautiful than both. I’m eagerly awaiting your review of that vehicle Steve!!!!!!
Agreed. For me it's between a Lavante s, alfa stelvio qv or a jag.... I have a ghibli sq4 now and love it but would consider the others.

i've got 2019 levante s gransport, this is yes absolutely an attractive car but not good in small turn so that it annoys me a lot when parking. wish it had 4ws... moreover, its really gas-guzzler, lol....
The question in the title can and should be made differently:
A Maserati Levante with a Maserati or Ferrari engine over the M156 Maserati platform built and assembled by Maserati
or
A Porsche Cayenne built with a VW / Audi engine over VW's PL72 platform assembled and badged by Porsche

I own 2017 Levante sport version loaded, and 2018 Macan S / wife/, Macan is much more fun, better build quality. I am leasing Levante and in a year ready for X5 or Cayenne S. Nice engine, decent quality ride and sports seats with perforated Rossi leather are nice, but cheap Navi, multiple annoying issues, like squeaks, poor cameras quality and many other issues make ownership less than pleasant. My 2 c
I was looking at the Levante and the new chevy blazer. Chose the blazer rs because of the modern tech for its price, size and aggressive look. Build quality is better as well.

Levante GTS V6 Twin turbo can sprint to 60 in 4.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 181 mph
Trofeo V8 will -- according to Maserati -- sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and keep stretching up to a 187-mph top speed.
Ghibli is the hot wind meaning not the Lavante
The Levante is a warm Mediterranean wind that can change from a light breeze to an irresistible natural force in an instant
@@stevehammes Well, one translation of Levante means rise ... and Ghibi is a hot wind which is why Hayao Miyazaki named his animation studio after his love of Italian stuff.
So I guess those Italian car designers are very windy.
Cayenne...because more stealth and I have no problem blending in w/the heard; not to mention a better dealer network. Everything you mention that is "missing", is or seems like chump change to someone like Maserati, but it also seems like their trims/packages are too convoluted (4 trims, 8 different models). I'm not saying building a Porsche is simpler; just that the Levante becomes too Italian the more you dive into the options/equipment pages; so much overlap. I realize personalization and exclusivity is the name of the game in this segment, but how much is too much? It's not like you're gonna see yourself at every stoplight in one of these things. [Why not go for a $65k Ram 1500 Limited?]
Mazda CX-5 or Ferrari GTC4 Lusso. There is no middle ground.

This reviewer wants everything he could possibly have for 100 grand. Others more expensive dont have, why this one has to have? Each car is made how its made for a reason. Well...just customize it and pay the extra! Happy days.
For a 100k you should expect all the goodies those 30-40k Toyota have.. they need to step up the technology in the base models..

It’s nice that this car is stupid expensive for what it is. It may lack a lot of features and might not seem attractive for buyers but thats what keeps the brand exclusive. If these cars were actually designed right and priced low enough everyone and their grandma would have a Maserati.

It's a decent looking vehicle but for that amount of money I don't want Chrysler window switches. Its not exclusive enough for me with all of the Chrysler equipment.

Drive one and the window switches won't be so significant to you anymore.
The 2019 model actually has Ferrari switches now and the engine is Christ

- looks beter (imo)
- sounds better (fact)
- cheaper (if you buy smart)
Chayenne:
- built better
- pdk has no real competitors
- better driving dynamics
The levante is pretty nice looking but no one's calling it beautiful, except that guy at infiniti that designed it in the first place. The cayenne is a handsome suv

went to see the two cars , came down same prices and bought the Cayenne instead, completely two difference levels, Levante blew my mind, in a bad way ！！！
I think Maserati should interpret a hybrid engine, not only to increase the fuel economy but to also boost the level of exhilaration.

Go for the Porsche or you will regret it. I have a Cayenne S and its the best SUV. Get the Levante if you want to spend weeks in the workshop.

I'm a Cayenne fan personally! Think the Levante is nice but don't like the infotainment system and the switches are sourced right from the Chrysler parts bin! That being said I'd rather drive the known leader and the one that's been the bench mark from the beginning the Porsche Cayenne! Porsche there is no substitute....
Maybe koenigsegg would be a substitute on the track but Porsche is best for daily driving

Take the Durango SRT and laugh all the way to the bank, get an extra seat, more room, more power and an American muscle car with launch control in SUV body. Did I mention, it can haul a boat load of stuff too?

I have a problem.
How can we get rid of all these damn SUVs on our roads? The blame I think is the low fuel prices. If I were elected governor I would not allow any SUV or pickup within the left lane of any highway. Thanks for the excellent review Steve.
Gas prices wouldn't help. The only difference between most current SUV/CUVs and cars is a slightly elevated ride height -- and that only makes for a negligible fuel consumption difference.
It's a trend, and all trends have an end... As soon as almost everyone owns an SUV, suddenly, station wagons will be the hot new vehicle to own!

The levante s just isn't worth 80k. Even the cayenne has a better value. The levante sounds better but the cayenne is better built, more practical, and better looking. The levante looks like an infiniti

@@prisca6216 Everything you just said is subjective. Cayenne's drop in value nearly as fast as anything else in the super luxury SUV sphere. Better built is debatable. The cayenne doesn't even have a PDK, which would make it objectively better. The cayenne is also about as special as a X5; meaning, not at all. It's a ubiquitous and boring grocery-getter and is outdone by its cheaper, little brother, the Macan.

Flush all credibility down the toilet!!!! How can we really take a car review seriously when the reviewer says he "NEEDS" ambient lighting????? Clearly a personal preference that doesn't remotely add to the driver experience or makes a car better..... Heated steering and seats may be necessary in colder climates, but not in regions where it doesn't get (and stay) cold... Say what you will about Uconnect, it may not be bespoke.... but it is fast and it works across all of the FCA line!!!
