    I greatly appreciated you relating the story of my 3 year old Grandson believing you to be a pirate. It meant a lot to hear you tell that story. He has been with us while his new baby sister made her appearance. He thinks she is alright and likes being a big brother.. He watched this video with me again. He said "that pirate really works hard. He should be finished soon to make the ship go faster." I guess you now have a 3 year old fan. Peter, Merry Christmas to you, Cathy and your family. Best regards from Southwest Iowa!

    I'm loving this. The old time blacksmith ways amaze me. There are so many areas in history blacksmithing has influenced. I recently read the story of Jim Bridger and was surprised to learn that he started his teen years as a blacksmith apprentice in St. Louis. Later, on his first trip up the Missouri River, he put those skills to use making door hinges, locks and other necessities for a fort to survive the winter. Thanks so much for sharing this journey.

    I am sure you know this, but as a little reminder, if you light a small fire IN the chimney area before you build your forge fire you will draw right away. The heat from the smaller fire will start the process of getting that air moving.
    BTW, I found a decent rivet forge for my son. It is on the list of purchases after the Christmas season. I really thank you for your help on that and using the buckets for fermenting the cabbage!

    I have always though a person should try to learn as many of the old skills as possible. I suffered from a brain injury a few years ago, lost my memory so I have started over again last month I took a knife blank I made from a file before the accident I hardened it and tempered it in a BBq pit with a hair dryer. Looking at making a bellows as my neighbor complains about me having a fire everytime he hears the hair dryer. I am using hardwood charcoal brands and lump charcoal for fuel. Not exactly total old school like you do but it gets the job done for now. I admire what you are doing. Thank you love the history.

    W O W !!! Now THAT must have been an exhilarating flame! Tickled U pink and then some eh Peter? Everything so WELL DONE...there's a 'beauty' to the sound of the hammer when it strikes and the suck an' blow of the bellows. It bespeaks a rhythm of 'fire and wind' that bring about some marvel. The limit to the 'marvel' lies either in the mind of the Forger or in the need of his purse. I think Catherine will have a much easier time knowing where 2 find U. Even in fresh snow...a well-worn path will soon B made. (LOL!) ENJOY, and yet CAUTION with each blow. "There's no workman, whatsoever he be, That may both work well and hastily." (Geoffrey Chaucer). I can imagine some fine cooking at the 'Woodland Escape', this season...wild turkey perhaps? I pray U have some lovely family time together! Thanks so much 4 sharing with us. God Bless! :)

    • @TheWoodlandEscape
      @TheWoodlandEscape  ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you should bring up wild Turkey as there is one thawing in the fridge as I type. As to that hasty work you so eloquently quote, the only thing hasty work has gotten me is smashed thumbs! There will indeed be some down time and grand meals by the fireplace this winter … I’ll not be hibernating but, do plan on some reading and music by the fireplace. Cathy and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
