I have two of Lamy Safari (EF + F) and a Twsbi Swipe (EF), and I've had my hands on a Diplomat Magnum and tried it for a while. I wanted to lead with this to show that I'm not that experienced in the fountain pen world yet, but out of those I most certainly prefer the Lamy Safari. When it comes to writing I can't say I notice that much of a difference, but there's one thing that's extremely apparent between them and that's when it comes to drawing. For some reason the Lamy Safari pens just flow ink quicker than the other two, meaning you can get quite nice lines by barely touching the paper. I mean the type of pressure akin to holding the pen with two fingers and just letting it float on the page, kind of. The two others flow correctly like 85/90% of the time on low pressure, but that can really mess with a sketch if it suddenly doesn't work for like half a second.
That’s a superb point, a pens tuning should allow for it to glide across the page, this isn’t always the case. Unfortunately a number of brands are known for inconsistency, and this is where Lamy really excels.
I dunno. I just received a new Lamy Safari. Loaded it with Carbon Ink by Platinum. It just doesn’t work well. The flow is very inconsistent. Often have to go over lines 2 or 3 times to get it going. Extremely disappointed. I’d return it if I could. I’m going back to fineliners. More consistent.
I’m sorry to hear that you had issues with your Safari! Carbon black by Platinum is a lovely ink, however it can block pens especially if you’re using extra fine nibs. The great thing about Lamy is the fact you can easily change the nibs. I’d recommend trying a medium nib and then if you’re after a finer line, try reverse writing.
I agree that Lamy Safaris are great but, for a budget pen with superlative nibs, I prefer the Twsbi Eco. They have a massive ink reservoir and nibs that range from EF (beautifully precise yet wet) and up to B and also 1.1 ml stub italic- again wonderfully expressive. Have you tried the Twsbis?
I have, but I’d call them more of an intermediate pen. The filling system is great, but the feeds are really delicate, and nib replacement isn’t recommended. I’ve seen many a broken feed thread on socials! But they are nice pens :)
Cute video, Lamy Safari and Pilot Kakuno are the pens that have all I need and love ❤
The Kakuno with their faces are absolutely a joy to marvel at! Do you collect colour variations?
thanks for this video, good to see your video after a long time.
Hopefully more to come soon!
i love my safaris. i swapped the standard steel for a 14k nib and have a lovely writer.
That’s the great thing, you have the option should you want too! I hear they are quite bouncy
What a great video! 😍👏🏻👏🏻
Glad you liked it!!
Great video as always ❤
Thank you!
I bought the matching ballpoint pen for that limited edition.
How do you find the ballpoint ?
I agree completely. I have a number of different brands. This one ranks very highly in my collection.
And they are pretty easy to collect if you’re into colours.

Lamy converter have two protrusions you can feel it, they need to go through small notches
That they do :) it’s the small things like that that make the pen such an icon

twsbis are joke pens, they crack easier than egg shells
