Yes exactly, I’m from California the San Gabriel Valley and this reminds me of a Sunday in the park with friends having a Budweiser in the 70’s great memories thank you both!
Santana = Rock + Guitar! War = R&B + Horns! Both with Afro-Latin flavors! Great reaction La & Che! What a way to start a Sunday morning, and as always Love, Peace & Blessings!!!
All War has for horns is a harmonica (playing horn lines) and a saxophone (with a great sax player, Charles Miller RIP) but they are so good it feels like Tower of Power. LOL
Music is best when it takes you somewhere in your mind. This song does that. For me, it's on my cottage deck on a beautiful summer afternoon. For my Cali family, it's to a beach picnic. It takes you guys to your own place.
I saw War play at the Satsop Rock Festival over Labor Day weekend in 1971. On Saturday morning, the promoter skipped out with all the proceeds, leaving the bands high and dry with no payment. Most bands refused to play, but War was one of a few who played anyway with no payment. Imagine a three hour extended set jam session of All Day Music.
Back in the day,, There was a concert tour we called "The Triple Threat" & If you were fortunate enough (like myself) to go,, You would remember it for life,, The tour was WAR,, Santana & Malo (Jorge Santana's (R.I.P.) group,, Younger brother of Carlos Santana..Famous for absolutely beautiful classics like,, Malo "Suavecito",, A MUST HEAR Classic track..ALL them were large multi-ethnic groups which were extremely popular.
If you check out "Suavecito," be sure to listen to the full 6½-minute version. The single radio edit (3 minutes) is fine, but the LP version is the one in its full glory.
Released 1971......this is lazing on the beach music......on your porch snoozing music.......love it !!!! Reminds me of 'Groovin' by the Rascals from 1967...........check it out
My dad’s musical tastes were pretty pedestrian, but he happened to love War.We had this album and The World Is A Ghetto. I still listen to and love them. I’ve played their tunes with a couple of different bands and it’s always fun and a crowd pleaser. This is Happy-Place music for me!
Music perfect for a lazy Sunday, hanging with the Homies, just the most chill vibe to kick it back and low ride...in a car or at family gathering. War has such a cool vibe. ✌🏽 Keep playing more from them 💯👍🏼👌🏼Groovy, man!
I had War’s greatest hits album when i was young, and even though none of my friends were into it as far as I know, I used to love sitting back and vibing to that album.
I'm amazed I didn't know, or had somehow completely forgotten that this summery groove was by War!! D'oh!! Who else lays it down just like this? Happy Sunday, gents. ✌🏼😊🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
Did you say impala?! Back in the 70s I had a 64 2-door impala, completely stock. Me and my friends go cruising at Santa CruzBoardwalk or take it off-road up in mountains. Fun times!
One of the classics of the east L.A. low rider playlist (from the group that, of course, gave us the tune "Low Rider"). I'm lobbying to get these guys into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The background music of my childhood summers! In the late 60s WAR rehearsed every day at a local Long Beach CA 😂swimming hole called the Colorado Lagoon. I was there everyday every summer with my mom bros and sisters… everyday… they would just jam in the background… it’s my gospel music for sure…
This right here! Such a fine album, start to finish. Gospel/Soul/Funk/R&B, they are all ingredients in this stew. I've been listening to this record for fifty years, and it's still great.
There was a British band in the early '70s called Cymande, made up of members of London's Afro-Caribbean diaspora community, who released their first album in 1972. They had brief minor success in the States when they made the R'n'B charts and even got to tour with Al Green, but they were relatively unknown in the UK until the likes of Masta Ace, De La Soul, The Fugees and Smif N Wesson sampled them years later. In the very early days of hip hop some of their breaks were regular staples at block parties. I mention them because they've got a touch of War about them but had a unique style of their own that was well ahead of its time. Their first eponymous LP came out in 1972 and was a sweet mix of soul, funk, nyabinghi style percussion, Rastafarian folk song, roots reggae (and this was before The Wailers' Catch a Fire or Burning Spear's Rocking Time had been released!), calypso, Afro-rock and jazz. It sounds like a mess when I attempt to list the elements that comprised their vibe, but all three of their original albums managed to blend the various ingredients seemlessly, in grooves that flow like nothing else I've ever heard. The songs that I think you'd recognise from sampling are Dove, Bra, The Message and Fug, but Brothers On the Slide is probably the song that reminds me most of War. It wouldn't sound out of place on The World is a Ghetto LP. If by chance you happen to read this comment, La or Che, I really hope you guys get around to checking them out one of these days. I know you'll both dig 'em.
Oh I knew you two were gonna love this one 😍 this album and The World Is A Ghetto album were the BEST. Also Lee Oskar the harmonica player. His first two albums were gorgeous. Thank You for bringing back these memories 🥰
The best christmas gift you guys could ever give me is a full reaction to the studio version of Jethro Tull's "Thick As a Brick." Been watching you guys for a long time. You know good music. I trust you guys. I know its a full album, but I put this piece of musical on the highest pedestal of music right along with "Dark Side of the Moon." It rocks harder than you think. And its all all time drumming album. John Bonham from Zeppelin once said that Barriemere Barlow was the "greatest drummer that England ever produced." Not to mention the absolutely incredible composition that was written by Jethro Tull legend, Ian Anderson. Just an all time piece of music that everyone must listen to before they die.
This sound still gives me such great vibes. Have seen War on multiple occasions and will see them in Ocean City MD in January. Lonnie Jordan still has it and brings together super-talented musicians.
From what I've heard, Lonnie tried to make fans think his current band is the original War to get more money when they are not. The other four living members of War sued Lonnie for $1 million. I don't know how it was resolved. There's always one person in a band trying to cheat the others, it seems.
We would go to the park on Sundays, do a cruise to see who all was there then find a spot to park and hang out. There was a great cross pollination of music in the early 70s, Rock, Soul, Metal, Congas, Brass, Organ, black, white, brown, etc. Check out the bands Malo or Tierra from the same period. Suavecito was another great Sunday in the park song. 😊👍👍👍
I love when art imitates art, music about music, like Rush Spirit of Radio and Motorhead's Overkill. American car culture is so prevalent that everyone from Megadeth to Johnny Cash have chimed in, so there's tons of great music about that gearhead life.
During a 2 year Deployment Overseas (70's), me and the fella's had this album on repeat while sippin🍾 & groovin🎵. Brought a sense of calmness during hectic times!! Ahhhh the memories, shoutout to the ole 86th Tactical Fighter Wing🇺🇲💪....💥💥💥💥
Damn it’s been so long since I’ve heard this song, remember playing it all the time! If you mentioned the group most people would say The World is a Ghetto, which is a great song but this is definitely a JAM
that was chill before they had a word for it.. maybe groovy? lol Yet another Great react, and could not pick a better day for it, from my perspective...Keep On!
War always reminded me of Summer. We listened to War's Greatest Hits suntanning, drinking and cooking out. It doesn't get any better than that. ☺
Spot on 🌞
Another one of the great LPs released in 1971. What a year for music! And War was an absolute groove machine. Great choice.✌️❤️🎶
Were the best five years for music 1968-1973?
@ I go with ‘65-‘75 as the best decade.
Slippin into Darkness is another great tune from this LP.
All Day Music brings back so many summer time memories from my youth.
I bought this album as a gift to myself for Christmas in 1971🎄🎀 Thanks for featuring it today to kick up my holiday spirits❣👏
WAR was the first musical group I fell in love with. The World Is A Ghetto mesmerized me.
Slippin' Into Darkness is just as soothing.
But the message is not as uplifting.
Yes exactly, I’m from California the San Gabriel Valley and this reminds me of a Sunday in the park with friends having a Budweiser in the 70’s great memories thank you both!
I was right with you a few miles west in the San Fernando Valley. Those were the days
@@jaquestraw1 yes great times !
War is one of our most underrated bands. They were fantastic!
I'm furious that they still haven't been accepted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Definitely one of my all time favorites. Barbecue music.
This feels like summer in the 1970s
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands! Those vocals going all up and down the scale, love it 😍
You surprised me! Thank you for reacting to this. This is my teenage years in San Jose, CA.
Knew you would love this one!!
@@AirplayBeats Made my day! ❤You know how I feel about War.
Thanks for rocking this on a Sunday morning! Always loved this tune and the vocals are simply fire! 🔥
One of the most soothing songs, love it.
Fantastic sound. Brings back memories.
Thanks for bringing back this great tune! 🔥🔥🔥🎧
This was one of my favorites back in the day!! Thanks guys!! Well done 👍
That organ is heaven.

@colleenmonfross4283 Yes,, But unfortunately he passed away in 2020.
@@colleenmonfross4283me neither. Still listen to that sound

A great way to start the day!! Thanks for the excellent reaction, fellas!!
WAR "The Cisco Kid",, "Slippin' Into Darkness",, "Me And Baby Brother",, "Four Cornered Room",, "City,, Country,, City",, Etc.
City Country City is an awesome instrumental!
@324cmac 100% Agreed.
"California Gospel" That get it's own folder category for downloads. That's the name of a vibe I'll know right where to go to!
War was part of the Soundtrack of so many social gatherings when I was in Junior College. Hearing this transports me back.
Released 1971......this is lazing on the beach music......on your porch snoozing music.......love it !!!!

It would be great if they did a deep dive into The Rascals catalog. The Rascals have so many amazing songs.
Great suggestion!

My favorite War song. I flashback to the early 70's driving with the top down on a warm summer night.

I can hear this comin out the radio in the garage in summer back in day on Ny…..
I’ve seen them 2 times. This song brings down the house, the vibe is mellow, the crowd is mellow down easy.
I'm amazed I didn't know, or had somehow completely forgotten that this summery groove was by War!! D'oh!! Who else lays it down just like this? Happy Sunday, gents.
✌🏼😊🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
We be kicking now. Hand me another brew please!
Great song
nice review of my 2nd fav war song, who is #1 u ask Low Rider from intro to up in smoke movie lol!!!
My first concert, Eric Burdon and War, for free at the State Fair. Killer
This is about as dope as it gets
War was on the radio all the time when I was in high school. Think how cool that was.
Did you say impala?! Back in the 70s I had a 64 2-door impala, completely stock. Me and my friends go cruising at Santa CruzBoardwalk or take it off-road up in mountains. Fun times!
I lived in the same area at the same time! So much fun!
I want a 64 impala so bad!!!!
@@AirplayBeats it was a sweet ride, felt like you were floating down the road.

Summer after high school graduation. 💜💜💜
God I love this band. So cool and smooth. Killer percussion. Thanks guys
And they've got so many members who can sing lead vocals because they are that good.
Such a hit for Sunday morning!! Childhood groove!
Back in the day, we would smoke and listen to War. I haven't heard a bad song from them. Still have their albums.
War had a lot of great songs but this was my favorite, had a 60s feel to me, has a little Sergio Mendes vibe to it as well...

Great music about how great music is
According to the band, it's about friends playing music together and having fun.

Cruising with the top down musicI hear people Talking about music having a vibe to it nowadays War always had a great vibe
War had some long tracks. This one should have been twice as long. Beautiful.
People don't associate this kind of (ultra!) mellow groove with War. Great underheard gem.
Definition of a Vibe .
Mercy , that Group didn't have to Try ...
You guys should check out "Slippin' Into Darkness" (the long version). It's from the same album. Y'all would love it. Thanks!
Don't Let No One Get You Down from the Why Can't We Be Friends album is good too.

This cut and City, County, City are my favorites!
My favorite War song
Cisco Kid , Slippin into Darkness, The World is a Ghetto etc... so many hits , one of the first 8 tracks I bought.
They also play War's other popular song for cruising - Low Rider.
Aloha gentleman. The best oh ya. Totsl cruzin
Relaxed Funk! War is such an underrated group; those background harmonies are beautiful yet masculine if that makes sense? 😃
Haven't heard this one in a minute ! Sofa king great !
Check out their song Summer same vibe.
Gypsy Man could be my favorite War tune. Lee on the harp is phenomenal.
The best song!!!!!
😎👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
One of my WAR favorites, also SOUTHERN PART OF TEXAS and GYPSY MAN long version.
shout out to the (916)ers out there!
I like the album cover too.

You guys should listen to the live version. War Live is a great album.
War, is no joke.
Lee Oscar on harmonica.
Lee Oskar - He's got a successful harmonica company now.
Nice gentlemen. See, the 70s were the greatest. From YES to War, we had it all 🎶😊🎶
