Pickles! Also do you have any tips to persuade my parents to give me two gerbils? I have done all my research and have a good tank and everything like that.
@@FireFox-mh5jq unfortunately I can’t really help you with that 😅 best thing to do is to show them what you know/your plans/responsibility and respect their decision in the end!
Thanks this helped a lot I have 2 female gerbils called bea and buzz Your channel have helped them to have the best life that they can So once again thank you 😊
I have two male gerbils named Tella and Slushii and they live in a 20g tank, thank you for giving us information from your channel. Without this, my gerbils would not have veggies or a correct food mix. They wouldn’t even have the right habitat! Thank you! 💗
Great VIDEO! You're right about lettuce; don't use iceberg lettuce. Too much water content. My gerbils love, love, love snap peas (I do remove the veins), broccoli, and cauliflower in very small portions. I have one gerbil recovering from pneumonia who loves small bite of raspberries and just a bit of natural (ground at the store from standard peanuts--not dry roasted) peanut butter.
I have 8 little pups and an amazing mum and dad gerbil. I'm in love and I'm not capable of rehoming them ...because I love them all already too much to give them away. I am getting another tank and making the girl and boy groups at around 8 week old milestone for the pups.
hey could you do a video on which bugs you give your gerbils? i know you said you’ll do a video on safe flowers as well i’m really looking forward to it :)
@@sylvieweeks4149 I got my gerbils extremely right before quarantine and so I’ve only been able to feed them dried/freeze dried. 😅 you can feed live though, I would just make sure they eat it in front of you so they don’t coexist in their enclosure. Mealworms are high in fat, so I’d say one a week at most would be fine.
@@finsandwhiskers Thanks! I am hoping to get 2-3 gerbils soon, probably 2, because I cant, get a tank any bigger than 40 gallons. I am still having a hard time with food though, so what brands do you suggest if I can't make it homemade?
I'm so sad bc 1 of my gerbils died and now 1 of them is alone. There are no breeders or other gerbils within 300 miles from me. Will my gerbil be ok alone for a little while? 😢 I've only had them a week
I love your videos, as a part of there daily veg can I give them fennel, butternut squash, pumpkin, cucumber, parsnip I’m just trying to give them a little more variety in veg that’s all 😊
You can add those as variety but I would feed the squashes, cucumber, and root veggies a little bit rarer than the leafy greens! Herbs/squashes/high oxalic foods can be rotated weekly (one variety a week alongside milder veggies like romaine/red leaf lettuce, watercress, dried greens, dill, basil, arugula...) so you’re not over feeding those varieties!
Hi I'm watching all your videos as I'm getting 4 gerbils in a few weeks! Can the veggies be frozen veg that is defrosted? Also I'm a little confused on meal worms are they needed but in small amounts or are they purely a treat?
thanks for the informative video! do you know if there would be a difference between feeding gerbils only microgreen variations for all the different vegetables in this videos compared to feeding them only normal vegetables, as the microgreen variations would contain the same amount of nutrients but would reduce the waste of unused and gone-off vegetables. Also, if I was to do this do you think that I would need to rethink portion sizes due to the microgreen's small sizes?
They would need smaller amounts and I probably wouldn’t recommend feeding microgreens daily! They are very concentrated with nutrients, which is why they have been becoming a superfood lately :)
I only have a single gerbil (I've tried to bond him with others and so wanted him to be able to have a friend/friends but it didn't go well even after trying for a long time, he doesn't seem to tolerate other gerbils at all) would about a teaspoon of veggies work for him a day? Cause you said a tablespoon would be good for 2-3 I wouldn't want to over do it with the veggies.
Thankyou 4 you're channel. I'm a hugh animal lover but this is my 1st time ever have any rodent. As my mum hates R.A.T.S SHE says bc she dont like the word either 😂
Thanks, this is helpful. I have a video request, can you make a video on having 2 vs 3 gerbils? Male vs females- I heard males are slightly more likely to get along in a group of three than females. Also, is 35 gallons enough for 3 gerbils or would that be too small? Sorry for my bad explanations lol
30g for 3 gerbils is the bare minimum but 50g+ is preferred to reduce the risk of fighting. 2 males are highly stable 3 males are moderately stable 4 males are moderately stable 2 female are highly stable 3 females are less stable 4 females are moderately stable When you have a group of 3 they are more likely to bully one but this happened more with females then males.
Gerbils cannot have chocolate whatsoever, peanut butter or sugar free plain yogurt could be given as a treat like once a month, and a very small amount (smaller than a teaspoon)
spinache contains phosphorus, calcium, acidic content and huge amount of water. This means that unfortunately they can’t eat spinach as it has too much water and acidic content for them to handle. Gerbils cannot eat vegetables or fruit that have too much water as they give them diarrhea. They just cannot handle water based foods like we can. This makes spinach a food to avoid as far as gerbils are concerned.
Hi, I noticed you got this information, word for word, from online gerbil care. While some of the information on the site is safe and sound, a lot is left out or exaggerated. In general veggies should be a very small percentage of their diet, and just like with their seed mix, it should always include variety- that being said, a teaspoon daily (for individual gerbils) would be very difficult to cause issues. In some cases, like with older or sick gerbils, it could be good to avoid foods with high water content, calcium, and oxalic acid, but in some cases it could be good to include those with water content, as they might not actively drink water like they should around those ages. As for normal gerbils, a teaspoon a day of varied veggies is safe, as long as their main dietary needs (a well balanced seed mix and protein from insects, safe meats) is met and is the majority of their consumption. We base this on the information from hamsters, and although they are not the same species, we can learn a lot and take cautions with a lot of small omnivore prey animals. I have 3 gerbils and they get a tablespoon every 1-2 days, so in the end they’re not really getting a whole tablespoon each, because they are a group. Known Safe Veggies that are high in all 3 (water content, oxalic acid, calcium), like Spinach, are not toxic, and while it should be fed in moderation, does not need to be avoided. I always suggest to anyone to read more on their diet than one website, as it is quite crucial.
@@finsandwhiskers Hey! Thanks so much for your reaction. Def learned a lot from it. I did copy it from gerbil care, because i didn't want to say anything incorrect. Can gerbils eat kale daily? I was thinking maybe because its a dark leafy green?
