  • In our second documentary, we delve into the story of Nigel Armitage of Armitage leather and how he has made a career from leather craft.
With over thirty years experience working as a professional leather worker, Nigel has created all kinds of weird and wonderful leather items and still loves his job as much today as he did when he started.
It was an absolute pleasure to meet and learn from Nigel, Alicia even got some one on one training at his workshop making a wallet and I got to challenge him to make something for me!

I was lucky enough to meet and film Nigel for this channel, although he does have his own if you search Armitage leather on TH-cam he has a whole bunch of tutorials that you can get stuck into!

Freelance filmmaker (filming & editing) is what I do as my day job so it’s certainly something I’m interested in 😁
What community specifically did you have in mind?

@@agreatalternative Some day I'd like to have a generic "makers" channel. I do all kinds of stuff, mostly knifemaking/blacksmithing, some audio arts, photography, music, electronics, and recently getting into leather crafting. I'm an avid photographer, so there's aspects of that that are easy for me. But I do not have the talent nor the inclination to edit great videos, and I've failed miserably trying haha. If I get into making a youtube channel, I'd be looking for someone to edit a video once a month, possibly up to once a week if it does well, and obviously in a budget that makes sense.

I’ve done a few videos on uploading stock footage that you might be interested in?
Good luck with all the pursuits 👍
If you need an editor down the line, feel free to give me a shout 😊

Been a big fan of NA for a long time. I put him right up there with Peter Main, Al Stohlman, and the like. Completely different type of creator than the others, but it's about mastery. Such impeccable work.

Really enjoyed watching this. I first picked up a needle and thread during lockdown and have started to gain a passion for it. Keep the TH-cam content coming. 👍🏼

Thanks Richard, means a lot to see how much you liked it!
This channel and similar filmmaking was how I spent a good chunk of my lockdown, which means it’s getting slightly harder to keep up with the weekly releases but loving every minute 😁

“Job’s a good on’!” Great vid about the best leather working teacher on TH-cam! I learned from Nigel’s videos and they always bring me joy. Some day I’d love to get out of the US and meet Nigel in the UK!

Just came across your video, love your shop! I’m a Ironworker by trade. But have been working with leather for 20 years now, I make scabbards , pouches, bolt bags, reel pad with a tape holder attached. What ever a Ironworker can hold on his or her, tool belt I can make, it is a a lot of fun. I made a candy box and put all my grandkids name on it, they love it! Thanks

Great video. Learned some stuff about Nigel that fill in the gaps from all his videos. Most of my leatherworking knowledge has come from Nigel's videos. Years worth of videos. Plus a few others. But Nigel taught me how to saddle stitch. I do it the same way he first showed me. I do not sell my items. I just make them. Give them away. Play. Thanks for this video.

Nigel is certainly a deep sea of knowledge, and clearly is still doing it because he likes to play as well 😁
Being creative is all about play, not just making money!

Some remarks from my side. I don‘t think it‘s a „job“ for you. I think it is more a passion.
11 yeasr ago I started to make my first knife. As a hobby, it still is a hobby and not a profession. With knife making as a natural progression comes leather work. Well knives need sheats.
There is another think in common, as Nigel mentioned. Somethimg made with my hands that will be handed down to my children and grandchildren.
Thnaks you Nigel for sharing your skills. A good portion of my leather work skills I learned through your videos.
