Synopsis:
Norman Puckle, a well-meaning but clumsy grocer’s assistant, can’t seem to do anything right. After being rejected by Marlene, the love of his life, he attempts suicide, but can’t even do that. He is saved from jumping off a cliff at ‘Lover’s Leap’ by a Royal Navy petty officer. He persuades Puckle to join the Royal Navy, where he’ll meet ‘lots of girls’. Life in the Navy proves not to be as rosy as it’s been described, and Puckle fails at every task during basic training. But despite this, he’s regarded by the Admiral in charge of a rocket project to be a ‘typical average British sailor’, and chosen to be the first man to fly into outer space in an experimental rocket.
Reviews:
"As time passes, the warmth and innocence of Norman Wisdom films becomes a rarer and rarer treat. This is one of his best and includes all of the trade-mark ingredients. The scene where Norman throws the whole crew of a Navy frigate overboard is priceless and the reaction of the supporting cast to Norman throughout the film is as worth watching as the man himself. If you like the predictable, honest and gentle humour of the black and white Ealing era then this is one of the best."

One of the greatest comedians this comedians this country has produced. Oh. What the hell. The greatest.
Huh?
Always loved him, Mr Wisdom was a wonderful comic actor.
There is and always will be ONE Norman Wisdom.Comic genius.he even did his trademark trip up in front of the Queen when he was nighted.pure Class.
I was lucky enough to see him on stage in his later years and he is,was and always will be a hero of mine... A true Brit to be proud off.
Excellent days back then when we had total entertainment in a movie. This was when the whole family would get together and enjoy a film or program. Norman Wisdom was truly fantastic. Whatever he did, he gave his 100%. RIP.
Fabulous to see a young Johnny Briggs, aka Mike Baldwin.
Watched NW live in Leeds many years ago was so funny beyond words and not a swear word or anything rude in sight, a true genius for sure.
Who doesn’t laugh at Norman Wisdom, a comedy legend.
Not bad to notice Oliver Reed (teddy boy) being rescued by Michael Caine (sailor) at the cinema box office . . .
9.00....maybe "scram" was Caine's first film line..?
@@Firebrand55 - for which he received his knighthood . . ?
7:50 if you want to see it!
Noticed Oliver but I took me a minute to place such a youthful face......heard scram and thought "I know that voice"
Philip Locke - (Tall Teddy Boy in Cinema Fight) - THUNDERBALL (1965) Vargas “I think he got the point”.
Not too sure but I think that’s fashion model Shakira Baksh (future Mrs Caine) the Hawaiian girl at the end?
Norman was superb 👏
More realistic than what NASA puts out. Norman Wisdom is terrific.
fool
My mum took me to see this film when we lived near Oxford it was on at the ABC cinema The queue stretched down George Street
Well done Puckle ! Thank you for your kind upload 🙏
" The Bulldog Breed" A term this Country has unfortunately forgotten, Rule Britannia
Now it's The fool Britannia run by clowns 😂😂😂
@@exploreplanet5149 sad but true
Britannia waives the rules.
Sadly very true 😮
The good old days..!!!! 😂😂😂😂
1.20.06...I usually watch this next bit...and...at 1.25.27; that's William Roache, Coronation Street's Ken Barlow. Later that year, Dec 9th, 1960, he first appeared in the soap.......and stayed for 60 years.
Blimey this had quite a cast! Wish there was more of Caine lol. Shelia Hancock even! The court scene was laugh out aloud funny!!
At 7.58, Oliver Reed as leather-jacket-wearing teddy-boy....in an uncredited role.
At 9.10 Michael Caine as sailor on right - uncredited.
I think there is a cartoon rabbit running up the steps @1:25:10 and back down them @1:25:26 Very enjoyable film, thanks for uploading it.
"Poly-Nesians" & "Single-Nesians"! So Silly.😄
I believe it was filmed at Portland in Dorset
Definitely portland, chesil beach in full view and also freshly quarried Portland stone ready to be shipped all over the world, Portland has changed a lot since then, Navy base no more, Bibby Stockholm in residence now!!!

Hacen Vds. mucho bien
Was funny in the 60s ,bit too daft looking back ,still ,hes a great was a great guy
Old school genuine vaudavillian "clown" humour.....ending of an era
In deed yes , made me laugh as a child, bless him
Funny how the greatest naval power in history didn't bother to send their new recruits to boot camp befor shipping them off to sea.
anyone know what port that is at the start?
Portland port Dorset
These comedies were definitely of its time. Bit cheesy now.
Good comedy film, but his character is really annoying at times!
I suppose if this were an American movie, Don Knotts would've played this part. But then it wouold've been actually funny, instead of just mildly amusing.
Not a nice man was Norman.
Hes luck no lady reported him.
Some incredbly nasty habits
He had a terrible life a drunk bulky fsther who hit him kicked him threw him down stairs thats how he learnt to fall in films as he was kicked and beaten into knowing how to fall safely poor man 😢
