Oh I’m so sad!! Had my fish for 2 years, never saw a heron once! My fish were happy and fat. 21 of them!! Last few days, noticed they were hiding and it seemed like I could barely see them which didn’t make sense since I had so many. I thought maybe my dog had ‘traumatized’ them bc her ball landed in the pond recently a couple of times. Then; yesterday, I SAW IT and I gasped and realized in that moment what has happened! I threw the net over the pond right away and scared off this predator!! Tried really counting my fish. I only see 6. 🥺😩 Showed up again this morning! Sent the dog out and away it flew.
How about adding a heron statue? I have read that they are territorial birds. Supposedly if they see another "heron" at the pond they won't come around. I'm guessing you might have to move the statue around some to keep the local birds confused and wondering about it.
It’s a beautiful film with the lovely sound of flowing water, bird song and the amazing colours of the fish and plants. Don’t care much for the ending though 😒
That definitely sucks, these herons can definitely wreck your day. Little did I foresee the foodfest that was about to happen in my pond I had just given away a couple of dozen goldfish ( over population ), leaving just a few with a compiment of koi. Thought I was all set went to feed the fish and just my 3 biggest koi eventually came out to eat. I was pissed, now I have a net over the top protecting my 3 koi and the addition of some beautiful baby koi. Hopefully the net keeps the herons out. Saw one huge ( dinosaur bird ) snd a smaller one. This happened to us with our pond,got up one morning saw the telltale signs,fish scales on side of pond,sent for a black netting slightly bigger than pond got some large plastic pegs to hold net tight over pond,great stuff no more missing fish,fish swimming on too of water not hiding anymore and no more worries for us,result,👍🏴
Best not to have hatred for wild animals, even if they’re stealing your fish. They don’t know any better and as far as they see it fish are important food which isn’t really easy to get when you’re a bird.
@@theworthysoul Have you never realised speech is often exaggerated for dramatic effect? I know herons eat fish too but if I want to hate on them when they steal my beautiful koi then I will thank you very much.
So sad poor Fish add a net and make it domes like a Tent and put lili pads so they can hide under Poor Fish I love my Fish and do everything to protect them. Once this Bird knows your Pond it’s going to continue to come and eat all your Fish!
Blue heron ate a few of my fish too so now my pond is covered by a black net. It's not as natural to have a net but black colored net is not as obvious and I never lost a fish again.
@@This_tub it’s a wild animal, it doesn’t know any better and can’t tell the difference between wild and domestic fish. Rather than have hatred for it, just set up good defences.
Millions of years of evolution made them incredible at fishing. I have been dealing with them for years. Each year I try something new. They also seem to eat my fish mostly in the fall.
@@e79422 I pity you because I was myself in these problems. I now have a pond of 500,000 liters so that the fish can save themselves. I also have duckweed which allows the fish to hide but it's not very pretty. with all this i pray God to keep the birds away from my fish

Is the pond too shallow? I think the heron was able to stand in it.
God I hate them! Found one round my pond this morning but I soon chased it off!

Has anyone tried fishing line around the perimeter of your pond? Nets are just so ugly in my opinion.
