Appreciate the commentary at the end, I recently had a neonazi call me a fake Ásatrú for daring worship the Aesir and Vanir when I'm mixed race myself, as I'm Dutch-Irish-Cherokee mix and very vocal about my Native roots. I'm actually in the clergy program for The Ásatrú Community, because I want to bring the universalist variant of the faith to people and show what we really are! So in that regard, much love for you and all you're content, and for the others involved as well ^•^
It is frankly very moving that you took the time to add that last slide. I was fully prepared for his to simply be about the transformations, but to not only acknowledge the misappropriation of something as beautiful as your pagan roots, but to take a STANCE makes this subgenre of goth look a lot more accessible. That very misuse of symbolism you mention was a big reason I personally never felt too sure about looking into the style myself, but knowing that there are people overwhelmingly agreeing with your message makes me want to give it a try for sure.
Xenia Rosa absolutely don’t be afraid to look how you wish!! I’ve seen plenty of poc take on the look and it looks wonderful. My best friend and I are Native American mixed and we’re both pagans and when he does his makeup UGH I could die 🖤 believe me honey no look is white-only. Did the norsemen not care to share cultures and trade? Sure there may have been a clan here or there that were more gate-keeping or racist or what have you. But I believe the majority would have been open to other people who weren’t from their land, indulging in their culture. Odin is the All Father, not the Only Scandinavian Father. That sort of thing. No matter what anyone says if dressing a certain way calls to you and would make you happy, do it!! There will always be those of us who support you.
If somebody talks shit, remember your tribe. There are always people out there that will support you. You just have to discover them! If you can't live it openly, try it just for yourself (first).
