It was always a stop and look area when we would leave from Huntington Beach going south to look for waves. When the point broke it was something special. To sit up in the Gazebo you were afforded a most wonderful view. Today you see the parking lot for the wealthy!! So much for one of the most beautiful spots on the southern Calif coast!
I read R.H. Dana's book as a grade schooler, and fell in love with the area in the mid-'70's as a young teen. My favorite restaurant was on Street of the Green Lantern, The Quiet Cannon, then simply Cannons in the '80's. I left SoCal in '88 after many years in Holland and went to Utah. Still there, but my heart yearns for South Orange County still. By the way, the Dutch word "drogher" is pronounced with the "oh" sound and a silent "g" (if you can manage it! Lol). I didn't remember that if it was in the book. Loved the Sponge Bob story too. I doubt I'll ever be able to come back what with prices, economy etc. Couldn't back in the day either. Just hope my little corner of Eternity in Heaven is as nice. 😊 Thank you for the video and window on the past, brother! 👍😎
People sometimes say it was better back in the day, but it's still pretty great in my opinion 😅 Thanks for sharing your story Allan. Glad this place touched you.
The Quiet Cannon eventually became Cannons Restaurant and has been closed down for the last 3 years or so. Such a shame to watch it just sit there and deteriorate. They do have some plans to put something else in there. It has the most incredible view! I had my first prom dinner there in 1973 and have been blessed to live in this beautiful city for 40 years.
Love this video - so informative and never knew so many of these things. The SpongeBob back story - what a gem! Good job keeping the community informed Antho.
You're so welcome Deanna. My friend Joel Robinson the Barefoot Naturalist told me about the SpongeBob story. It's maybe the biggest story in our history 😂
Great video but very sad the destruction of Dana Point. In my opinion Dana Point would have been better left alone and would have served more people as a natural cove. Instead we have polluted the area and continue to do so. The cost keeps going up making it too expensive for many to enjoy.

Bravo, Antho! Thank you for creating this film for our community.
Totally my pleasure :)

Spectacular video! Incredibly informative and succinct. Dana Point is on the up and up. Good job, Antho!
Ah, memories! Our 8th grade picnic was down in Dana Cove.

Loved going to Dana Point to watch the Sunset 🌇
Great overview Antho! And I enjoyed learning more about the plans for the Harbor area. I'm definitely going to share it.
Appreciate that Chris. Glad you liked it.
