Yeah, back then we said "wow, that movie have a lot of cgis in it, so cool". Now days, we said "wow, they really used chopper and damn whole city's mess are practicals"
That would be more awkward, and less fun, at least imo. But of think the use of screen screen nowadays are just to make filming easier and perhaps also less pricey than using props, and going to actual locations to film. I dunno, that's just my take on your comment.
No it wouldn’t, all the vehicles / weapons and landmarks can be used still. Plus more green screen = more cgi = more money to make. Military movies won’t bring in the amount as avatar/marvel do, so wasting money to create the film with more cgi wouldn’t be worth.
This shoot's logistics make my mind spin. Hundreds of extras and over 20 key roles were shot on location in Africa with Black Hawks and Little Birds. The scene at 2.24 seems like it might be from a documentary. Amazing film that established a new standard for modern war pictures that has yet to be surpassed.
Interesting that all those efforts have never prevented wars later throughout the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s... All is wasting and wasting: time, people, resources, meaning. The USA's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan killed 900k people and wasted $8 trillion, destroyed Iraq and disturbed Syria -- most ancient places and triggered civil wars, got Russia involved and bombing Syrian cities to aches, and justified Putin's invasion of Ukraine and Georgia...
I just watched it again. The editing and staging are so complicated. I only now realized Hans Zimmer did the deceptively magnificent soundtrack. What an incredible masterwork, one of Scott's best.
Theyre on a zipline, basically a prop with fake/nerfed propellant and the final explosion is a set charge at the impact point. You can clearly see the ziplines in the move, especially the 4K release, they didnt bother to digitally remove them.
@@azuredragon9928 There are special movie prop guns that shoot movie blanks. I dont know the specifics but theres a whole industry of movie props and realistic blank ammo.
damn idk if all those rifle,MGS, RPG, bombs and etc are airsoft or what but damn all those bullet shell flying around just make it more realistic not like war movies nowadays most of them using a cgis
As challenging as it must have been to film this, it looks like it was fun, at least getting to see the helicopters swooping overhead and the real Rangers doing their stuff before the actors did their thing.
7:00 you can see clearly the ammo and flash. Was it blank? Or rubber tips? Real gun wouldn't have flash visible in the bright day time anyway. (Edit: according to recoilweb they both use blank and rubber) 7:51 oh yeah, the crew used riot shield. It's live but probably rubber. Or that was for the explosion 8:24 but damn, real RPG? Imagine if that guy missed, or hit the crew.
Check again, you can see clearly that the RPG doesn't come from the actor's weapon and you can see it gets guided tru a cable, btw a real RPG it's faster
The riot shield is to protect the crew from the blanks. Blanks can be very dangerous at close range due to the hot gasses and bits of unburnt powder and whatever was used to seal the end of the blank.
Yep, all the helicopters they used were real. They were from the 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment) and most of the pilots were involved in the actual battle.
CGI and a scale prop model on site for the main body, without the rotors. Suspended by a big crane and zip lines to let it fall down to the impact point. Everything else is augmented with CGI. And there is a lot of CGI in that movie: Bullet holes, impacts and flashes, smoke stacks, the whole coastline, parts of the city in wide shots... etc. It's just not that obvious, which makes it so good.
First of all, military guys don’t talk like this. If you really heard what’s being said in the barracks, there would be a moms against rangers the very next day.

About the Black Hawks. Were those props made from scratch, or were they actual Black Hawks, decommissioned and taken apart for the setting? Both helos looked too real.
The film's almost 20 years old. This beats every kind of War Movies out there. BHD is still one of the best! 😃

Indeed, well said.

This movie still bonkers me because of how well it's made... I can spend hours looking at behind the scenes and still wouldn't be bored
How can you not love this movie,?been watching this for how many times
Josh Hartnett did a great job as always
I’m AMAZED on how they made this movie. This is my FAVORITE movie.
No CGI!!! Perfect !!!

Top Gun: Maverick wasn't infront of green screens.
True!!
One of the best war movies, I've seen the movie several times.

Can someone explain to me how they’re using RPG’s in this film? This is awesome. One of the top 5 war films ever created.

Its amazing how they use real helicopters in the movie
Yep with the help of the of the Pentagon they got the 160th (the actual unit that flew in 1993, Mogadishu) to fly for them
They used real 160th helicopters
I love this movie masterpeace
Thats one hell of a budget they have
Just amazing and a big thumbs up to the entire crew 🙌.

It coukd be a perfect movie when they will release it with raw audio in shooting/firefight scenes.
Imagine how cool it is to fire blank rounds pew pew pew
Not that great honestly it’s better live. Done both as a soldier
So thats why they have such a realistic muzzle flash

rpg scene very legit

Theyre shooting as if its happening ..where did they shoot that¿
Also how do they make the fake gun shots ?
Blank rounds. They produce muzzle flash and light recoil and a case is ejected too, except no projectile flies out of the barrel.
You can see guys with paintball guns in some scenes. They use special balls for sparks or dust.
Is that gun fires original?
It is real gun and real bullet but the bullet is blank, it just fire.
