My favorite running gag of this playthrough is when Fauna misses something or just dismisses it as something else, Chat just goes "just for flavor" in the live chat. Edit: YES! SHE FINALLY DID IT! SHE WENT TO WHS
The best part is that this started when Fauna went to the High Energy Lab. After about 15 minutes or so of wandering around and leaving the room a few times, she just so happened to set up the warp cores for the time travel experiment, powered it on, and was standing at the window with the scout launcher out, then she just turned around and left claiming the warp cores must be "just for flavor." I mean, she's not exactly wrong, but still: Chat's pain was legendary.
To be fair, she got burnt by chasing the quantum poem "solution" for a good 30 minutes and learning later that it was indeed for flavour. This kind of thing teaches the player that there are things to dismiss as flavour.

But after actively looking for it, and finally finding it (the only structure that remotely resembles a station around the white hole), and seeing it well lit by the ship's headlights. How on timber hearth did she randomly decide it's a shuttle (The shuttles she's been to look vastly different). The absolute SASS dripping from the edits in this compilation perfectly embody how it felt to live out watching these moments happen in the VODs, but now, thankfully, I can look back on it all and laugh
What gets me the most is that the final reason she gives for not exploring the WHS is that "its just a shuttle" despite not looking like a shuttle at all, when she's spent most of a loop (15-20 minutes) riding a shuttle on a random trajectory expecting it to take her somewhere, *twice* I'm mostly convinced that the time she almost entered the airlock only to inexplicably turn away was her realizing what it was, but at the last moment deciding to make it a bit.
My fondest memory of OW was on Brittle, trying to do everything except go to Riebeck, bc my sister (watching) kept wanting me to go. I ended up falling, slingshottinhg *around* the black hole, and ended up right in fromt of him! it was hilarious
What hurts me the most is that she saw the two gravity cannons, each recalling one specific shuttle. She saw the two shuttles, one at the interloper and one at the quantum moon. She saw the signs at the GCs saying where each shuttle was resting before being recalled. It was one thing to believe that the entrance looking thing wasn't a door, but why would the station looking thing be a shuttle of all things? 😭😭
I assume that somewhere in her brain, she remembered the interloper shuttle as "the frozen shuttle" and then saw that the WHS has ice on some of it and connected the dots, despite it being nowhere near the interloper.
I think it's because, as she said 6:41 to 6:48 , she had it set in her head that the WHS would be "more grand", a bigger and more flashy space station than what Outer Wilds was giving her. Since the WHS clearly can't be the station since it's not "grand" enough it has to be something lower on the hierarchy of spacefaring vessels, so in her mind it gets demoted from station to shuttle. I wonder how much the way OW handles it's locations is considered in that expectation, since everywhere is on TARDIS logic of being bigger on the inside and (appearing) remarkably small from the outside when flying around in space.
Future Fauna has some explaining to do... Still, what an amazing Let's Play from the Gaming Kirin, her excitement when she found Solanum was so adorable.

That time in episode 13 where she dies and sees WHS as she the screen fades to black is still the best one 😆 but i'm in pain i think it's a huge case of confirmation bias, where she just assumes the WHS is not the WHS
not pictured here: the amount of time Fauna spent pondering how the warp travel works when it's pretty much tutorialized at the white hole station (I can't say I'm any smarter at this game -- I reached for the wiki a couple times!)
Genuinely, this is the most EXCRUTIATING experience of my life. I could spend a whole day making a list of every toxic trait this Kirin had the whole playthrough but in the end, she had fun and that's all that matters.
I died a few times when Fauna never realized what the controls were. She's got a controller, so there are only like, ~10 buttons that do anything in menus. Never at any point in the game did she realize she could track objects from the ship's log. She also forgot how to use her flashlight, forgot that the ship scout and personal scout are the same, and forgot about the signal scope multiple times. She even forgot how to turn right in the cave on the north pole of ember twin. It's genuinely impressive how she forgets controls so easily. You also missed episode 20 at ~8:40 when she wondered if she was going to the white hole station while trying to find the vessel. That was the worst one, I think. I died a little when that happened.
She actually used the location tracking feature at one point, the problem is that what she was trying to get to was the sunless city and it wasn't particularly useful for that purpose.
What's also funny is she spent some good time trying to figure out the shuttles and the gravity cannons. Each cannon states its shuttle's current location. Neither mention anything about brittle hollow, white hole, station, or any combined of those words.
Has she played Obra Dinn or The Case of the Golden Idol? The saplings could use another torture session of pain and suffering of Fauna's observation and deduction skills.
I don't think anyone could fault someone not figuring out the stupid shoes in Obra Dinn. I know I brute-forced a bunch of things. It's also pretty easy to bypass the tutorials and get the how-to-prompts pretty late in the game if you skip actually filling in the cases because you're uncertain.

I think a lot of folks can relate, so I'm not judging our loveable Kirin. The white hole station was just the equivalent of not being about to find something in the fridge that someone told you is there. Seeing as she beat the game anyway, I'm more happy that she remained spoiler free and enjoyed the game as much as she did.
okay i can't even fault her because i think i fell through the black hole like 7 or 8 times before realizing there was a whole ass building there. it's dark over there, cut me some slack
Thank you for this, now at episode 6 I can let go of my frustration that she keeps ignoring the huge station every time she ends up at the white hole with the knowledge she never figures it out.
Seeing that compilation with all these edits make this video really funny to watch, especially when you remember all the pain suffered by the WHS (S for Shuttle, ofc) clan. 😂
Asking "where's the WHS?" while staring directly at the WHS. She MUST have been doing this on purpose. Hilarious to watch as someone who has never played outer wilds but y'all must have been pulling out your hair watching this lmao Top notch editing as well, "fauna i'm on my knees" had me dying.
It's not her fault, every time she goes through the black hole it canonically spaghettifies her brain. It would actually be fail RP if her braincells survived the trip. lol
In her defense (for the first couple times that she fell through the black hole), I thought that the station silhouette was the deepspace satelite or something similar. Anything in the Solar System would realistically be silhouetted against the sun, so whatever we were seeing could have been some other object to worry about later. So, I also would have turned around to look for the station, but after falling through so many times, it's still on her for not remembering that she never checked that place at all🤣 I hope Saplings won't be too bitter about it, but it'll at least make a great meme.
If she did the orbital probe cannon part sooner, she'd have experienced those airlock doors much more and would have realized that it was an entrance. But she never had a reason to head back here, and she never fell into the black hole again after the OPC, so it is just a strange happenstance, haha.

@@Naeddyr I'm confused by your comment because I don't recall a single thing about shoes and I played through the game two or three times. The thing I remember guessing and realizing from another playthrough was the pipe letting you know which russian was which.
@@Deadgye in the scene where the Russians are playing cards, you can look at the hammock numbers where the Chinese Topmen are sleeping, and memorise their shoes and numbers. You then use this in the lightning scene to match the names to the characters.
You can feel the pain in every second of this clip, this was made through sheer spite and blood pressure and I love it.
I was recently joking on a discord that we need of supercut of this and you did it. Thanks you.
Thank you for losing your sanity watching through the WHS pain again. It is truly the highlight of the Outer Wilds Kirin play through
Thank you very much for this
Her saying Konfauna welcome back on the same predicament never gets old lmao.😊
I am not a sprout. I do not watch the kirin with any regularity. I adore outer wilds. This had been one my favorite playthroughs to watch. Thank you Fauna for the many memories. Looking forward to the dlc
I've never seen someone accidentally fall into the black hole that many times, which just makes the WHS saga even funnier.
she's so damn adorable and goofy. everytime i watch these past fauna went pass the WHS i lost some of my hair fr fr. can't wait for her reaction after figuring out she has seen it for 19 times 😂
most painful moment of my life
Thank you for the clip. I didn't realize the number of times she went there and didn't see the mysterious WHS. I guess it is just a mystery. Hope she plays the game again.
That question mark will haunt me for the rest of my days.
The whs saga was one for the ages for sure 🤣
Chat bonding over trauma
This was lots of fun, thank you for the compilation
Seeing that compilation with all these edits make this video really funny to watch, especially when you remember all the pain suffered by the WHS (S for Shuttle, ofc) clan. 😂
It's real...
Asking "where's the WHS?" while staring directly at the WHS. She MUST have been doing this on purpose. Hilarious to watch as someone who has never played outer wilds but y'all must have been pulling out your hair watching this lmao
Top notch editing as well, "fauna i'm on my knees" had me dying.
The problem is that she saw the White Hole Station but went, "nah that's not it."
"this is the closes that ceres fauna will ever get ot entering the WHS" *checks time left of video* Oh dear...
Thank you so much for making this, all our pain in chat was worth it
I was looking forward to seeing this compilation lol
It's not her fault, every time she goes through the black hole it canonically spaghettifies her brain. It would actually be fail RP if her braincells survived the trip. lol
In her defense (for the first couple times that she fell through the black hole), I thought that the station silhouette was the deepspace satelite or something similar. Anything in the Solar System would realistically be silhouetted against the sun, so whatever we were seeing could have been some other object to worry about later. So, I also would have turned around to look for the station, but after falling through so many times, it's still on her for not remembering that she never checked that place at all🤣
I hope Saplings won't be too bitter about it, but it'll at least make a great meme.
Fauna when she looks at WHS: "Doesn't look like anything to me"
2:00 This is just like Westworld when [spoiler] can't see the door
She's never beating the blind allegations after this 😂
Man I love Fauna
If she did the orbital probe cannon part sooner, she'd have experienced those airlock doors much more and would have realized that it was an entrance. But she never had a reason to head back here, and she never fell into the black hole again after the OPC, so it is just a strange happenstance, haha.
