Well what can you say Mike Batt a mastermind, and all the wombling songs he wrote still amazing today, added extra magic to my childhood thank you Mike and of course the Wombles!!!!
Christmas 2018. Still brilliant after all these years. It’s always been a tradition in my house since the 1970s to play this first on Christmas morning.
Loved the Wombles records as a child and still love them now. All due respect to Mike Batt for these well produced records, even my grandkids love 'em, say's it all really....
First heard this song with my Dad on his last Christmas before he passed. It’s now my go to Christmas song that brings me back so much joy and memories at this time of year.
Love this. Doesn't get the recognition it deserves. We never hear it on radio at Christmas. I was 11 in 1974 when I heard this. Nice memories: mum, dad, and sisters.x
Yes it's the Wombles but this is actually a pretty decent tune! One of the long list of forgotten xmas pop songs that never get played year in year out, shame.
The important thing is....Mike Batt through The Wombles was/were a top act of the day.His/their timeless music lives on and gives a lot of pleasure to a lot of folk (of all ages) partic this track,A Seasonal Classic......................
R.I.P. Elizabeth Beresford who past away on Christmas Day 2010, I loved your creations, the first three records I ever owned were Selling England by the Pound, Be Bop deluxe's Modern Music and this, I got them all for Christmas the year I got my first record player..
Visuals are so cheesy but I JUST LOVE this silly little song. I tune into you, you tune into me. It's a Bowie-esque concept. I listen to this every Christmas, happy December 1, 2018!
This is the greatest piece of music ever recorded. Only a nincompoop (or perhaps some of the upper range buffoons) could possibly fail to appreciate this FACT.
this plus Morris dancing, whippets, ale & flat caps (knotted handkerchief in 'summer') aversion to orthodontics - always stumbling about the streets with a pie in one hand and a pint in the other - they're a daft lot, bless
ITS 2013 AND OCTOBER AND I'M WATCHING THIS AND THINKING "thats my childhood" because my mother recorded this on top of the pops when I was little just because we loved it that much
Well, hoopenhanger, shows how much you know. The musicians under the costumes were guys like Clem Cattini (The Tornadoes, Lou Reed), Ray Cooper (Elton John, Eric Clapton, George Harrison) Eddie Mordue (Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra) and Chris Spedding (Roxy Music, John Cale). What say you now, Mr Cowell
I think they're all extinct now.....man has a lot to answer for. There were reports of a sighting on Wimbledon Common a couple of years ago but nothing since.
That's not the only thing. Madam Cholette is now the last surviving member of the Wombles after being captured by Special Forces back in 1987, she now lives in a cage deep inside Area 51 along with Alf and a small gang of Smurfs. We must save them!
52 years young and I still adore this song
Classic Christmas song, deserves to be up there with Wizzard, Slade etc - Wombles songs were actually very good
I'm with you this is a great tune 👌 🎶 👍🦊
Has anyone else been on the gin? Just me then
@@debevans795 🤣🤣 I will be soon merry Christmas 🎅
@@claytonfox4107 I'm listening to all those old tunes. My 20 yr daughter and 19 son., Old times ' eh
There are few womblettes. You know who you are!!!🤣🤣
I loved this when I was 13, and I still love it at 61! 🤣
Well what can you say Mike Batt a mastermind, and all the wombling songs he wrote still amazing today, added extra magic to my childhood thank you Mike and of course the Wombles!!!!
Either this or 9 Million Bicycles In Beijing.
underrated and rarely played at christmas
I remember 2014 was its spike but now in 2020 you just don't hear it :(
Always gets played in our house
It's funny but I always seem to hear it played at Easter?
@@mickspastik4227 Really? You play Wobbling Merry Christmas at Easter? Well each to their own I suppose
@@mattinfullvision9598 No, it's when I've heard it played.
Memories of the golden age of life and Christmas and the music, films and tv, what a great time as a kid just felt like it always
All the best Christmas songs came from the seventies ,maybe I think so because I was 10 when this came out , very happy days :-) .
I was 10 too. Let's see: Orinoco,Tobermory,Great Uncle Bulgaria,Madame Cholet,I can still nearly name them all!
Ralph Jackson Wellington & Tomsk
I think your right
Happy Days indeed ,can you send me back in time please
I'm coming with you!
@@shycharlieace
Is it sad that in my 50s I can still recall the words to so many Wombles songs...?!
More sad would be that you couldn't ;-)
Helen Birkbeck great tune. Helen
You remember them Helen because although they were novelty records they were catchy, and very well produced songs.
DITTO!!!!!
Helen Birkbeck Not really because I do as well, know the words to a lot of their songs, and I'm 64 great group ,great times.
I was five, these guys were rock stars to me.
Smashes all other Christmas songs out of the frigging park!
I really like this eccentric British Christmas classic!! All day long!!
Arguably the most underrated British band of the 70s.
Christmas 2018. Still brilliant after all these years. It’s always been a tradition in my house since the 1970s to play this first on Christmas morning.
Love this.My favourite all time Christmas song. It brings back so many happy memories.
I've listened to this fantastic song many times every christmas since 1975 and will continue to do so ,rock on wombles.
All day long we will wombling in the snow superb
My childhood.
Classic Christmas song by the Wombles
Mike Batt sounds just like Bernard Cribbins who was the voice of the Wombles.
I used to watch the wombles as a kid.
Loved the Wombles records as a child and still love them now. All due respect to Mike Batt for these well produced records, even my grandkids love 'em, say's it all really....
Excellent 1970,s Christmas song
i HATE Christmas but LOVE the Wombles;they can do no wrong in my eyes! even a bloody christmas song.
Best Christmas song ever.
The Wombles rocked!
I still love this song and so do my kids now.
My kids loved the Wombles...so much part of their childhood in the 70's/80's. This is just great!
my niece loves this song so much💟💟💟
I am beyond happy watching my favourite childhood memory ❤
First heard this song with my Dad on his last Christmas before he passed. It’s now my go to Christmas song that brings me back so much joy and memories at this time of year.
Ok I never have heard of the Wombles and I thought this was going to be a wizzard parody. I haven fallen into a deep 70s hole and I love it.
Love this. Doesn't get the recognition it deserves. We never hear it on radio at Christmas. I was 11 in 1974 when I heard this. Nice memories: mum, dad, and sisters.x
Wow, that takes me back, I was 7 such magical memories 😊.
Yes it's the Wombles but this is actually a pretty decent tune! One of the long list of forgotten xmas pop songs that never get played year in year out, shame.
" a pretty decent tune"
In hysterics
Beats the Pogues’s dreary mess.
Totally underated
they were the days , real christmas , 70s rule ,
I'm convinced Roy Wood played sax for the Wombles.
1975 a great year for Christmas music...Greg Lake and the Wombles!
Impressive Xmas sound. Doesn't get enough air play
They don't make songs like that anymore:(
What a clever , innocent and wonderful Christmas song.
I work with a guy who was a one-time member of The Wombles. Not sure what he played though.
Maybe Uncle Beauregard.
The important thing is....Mike Batt through The Wombles was/were a top act of the day.His/their timeless music lives on and gives a lot of pleasure to a lot of folk (of all ages) partic this track,A Seasonal Classic......................
+dw69ful yes! and what we didn't think about as kids is that we were learning about recycling and not littering!
Love this Christmas tune.
The production on this single is amazing
R.I.P. Elizabeth Beresford who past away on Christmas Day 2010, I loved your creations, the first three records I ever owned were Selling England by the Pound, Be Bop deluxe's Modern Music and this, I got them all for Christmas the year I got my first record player..
My darling grand daughters love this x
the classic christmas song that is.....the wombles
This is enjoyable at anytime of the year ,
Quite simply the greatest Christmas song EVER
So many 70s hits featured a musical motif like that which kicks in at 2:06, sort of stopming effect.
Visuals are so cheesy but I JUST LOVE this silly little song. I tune into you, you tune into me. It's a Bowie-esque concept. I listen to this every Christmas, happy December 1, 2018!
Still listening Christmas 2024! Merry Christmas, lovers of music and joy!
This is the greatest piece of music ever recorded. Only a nincompoop (or perhaps some of the upper range buffoons) could possibly fail to appreciate this FACT.
what is their not to love cheesy Christmas song brilliant novelty record
Oh i love this takes me back I have onset of dementia and watching the great Orinoco justmakes me smite brilliant and thank you xxx
The Wombles were Orinoco (Mike Batt) - vocals, piano. Wellington (Chris Spedding) - lead guitar. Tomsk (Les Hurdle) - bass. Bungo (Clem Cattini) - drums, percussion. Tobermory (Simon Chandler-Honnor) - piano, keyboards. Madame Cholet (Rex Morris) - saxophone. Great Uncle Bulgaria (Paul Peabody) - violin.
They were the Bay City Rollers after this... hahahaha
This is why I love the British

Proud to be a Womble as I grew up in Wimbledon. :-)))
merry Christmas all day long
Very Underrated single, doesn't get enough air play. Reached an impressive N02 in the UK Chart.
Few wishes would be higher up my Christmas list, than to hear this on the radio, being introduced by the late Steve Wright. Ah, if only
Still gives me excited tingles xxxxx
I've never heard of this before...wish that my life had continued in such bliss.

You must admit, the song is bloody awful. Were they serious about it?
+Sharon Bridger It wasn't kids that bought the record.

You are completely correct, bonnie lad 👍
Hard to disagree ❤
Christmas day: *puts on womble costume* Start playing this! :D
He does this every FUCKING YEAR!
not sure if i've gone mad but after years of loving this i'm sure its the bay city rollers
+kevin cox i do see the similarity!
kevin cox I agree I think they sound like bay city rollers
It’s heavily ‘influenced’ by Shang-a-Lang.
under-rated Christmas song, excellent melody, not so worn out as a few I could mention
Loving Madame Cholet on the sax......
Superb!
Love it, is my Xmas ringtone evety year!! It's nearly time!!
I think they're all extinct now.....man has a lot to answer for. There were reports of a sighting on Wimbledon Common a couple of years ago but nothing since.

brilliant song catchy all you want
Love this !
Since its almost Christmas : HAVE A WOMBLING MERRY CHRISTMAS !!
they are miming!!! you can tell there lips aren't moving... XD
L Ratcliffe Well yeah, everyone had to mime on Top of the Pops as a rule. It’s why some bands never or rarely went on.
Fuck u punk . The Wombles never mimed 😡
Who cares
Awwww I remember this
That looks like David Cameron's office party as he sees it in his head.
it had the 1970s written all over it...especially 1974-75
now iam in the xmas mood....bring it on.!!
That's not the only thing. Madam Cholette is now the last surviving member of the Wombles after being captured by Special Forces back in 1987, she now lives in a cage deep inside Area 51 along with Alf and a small gang of Smurfs. We must save them!
My fave crimbo song.
