The bugs 8 has 2206 motors and does acro, the 6 is 1806 non acro. Don' knock the drone, you got something in the motor a small piece of dirt. Or a chip off the motor. She is right about the motor, these motors shouldn't be made out of plastic, the magnets need not support do they don't chip.. or, don't crash it. Ever lol Love the channel, not impressed with your opinion if this drone.. it's a great beginner fpv, independent modular construction.. let's you slowly upgrade into kiss esc's, then upgrade motors, maybe get real inventive and a new FC and all on the same frame. You can use this drone to piece a pro drone together slowly.
Out of all the ppl doing drone videos you guys are the best, I love how ya'll feed off of one another and the details you give for these drones. I will be buying my first drone very soon and will go off of your recommendations will be under $100 for my first one. Thank you for your videos and the blog channel is awesome you guys ROCK!! Lewis from philly
Thanks a lot Lewis! That means a lot to us :) If you have any questions about any of it, just hit us up and we'll do our best to help answer them! Happy Flying!
Regarding the motor lock-up....could it have picked up a piece of something from one of the ground crashes ? the clearance between the rotor and stator is quite close, and something could have gotten lodged between them, and your manipulation might have dislodged it and freed it up again.
+James Burba, I didn't see your comment until after I posted mine, but I agree totally. A single grain of sand, a small flake of bark, a tiny piece of leaf, anything that gets jammed between the stator and the housing is enough to stop rotation.
There's a disc golf course at this park isn't there I seen the tee pad and basket. The things with chains on them one of my favorite things to do before I lost my leg u all should try it's so fun and gets u out into the woods at 17:20 Abby is flying around a basket🤗🤗😍
That's what it seems like, I've got a bugs 6, I love it! Never had an issue! Crashed it once due to my own fault, no damage what so ever. Best brushless beginner buy for me :). I just brought the basic version with no camera for $77 USD. For the money, the quality of this is unbeatable in my opinion. This video has helped me decide to buy the stock camera/ FPV system for this, was thinking I should buy aftermarket but after knowing the stock set up is great I will just order that, thanks guys :)
Watch all the way through folks, the conclusion changes by the end. Reminds me of my first hard crash with my V977, had to resolder the tail motor in and it was the day I'd opened the box. I feel better about the chopper now. Just don't fly fast tail first into second story walls above concrete and you're all-right. And then the moment I thought I'd burned out the motor, but actually just had to push the main gear back all the way onto the rotor shaft. First you think your rc aircraft is crap but then you realize it's actually a built-in self-preservation feature or something like that.
We are definitely going to give this a second chance, but it was very disappointing to see this happen especially when we all know and love the Bugs 3 so much!
Robert Gaudet doesn't this happen intentionally for safety reasons that's what I would think. If you go into the bugs 8 webpage it says it has motor lockdown
Nate and Abby, another fun and informative video - keep up the good work. I tried to meet you guys Saturday at Flite Fest but was never able to be in the same place at the same time.
I have the bugs 3 and they just came out with the fpv camera for it. I'm running a tx 103 in it now and love it. I ordered the 5820 camera on eBay, the jury's still out on the new camera. Why on heavens earth did they change the motors. The bugs three rocks and very durable. Great review and you give a honest real world view of it. I not convinced that this is a step up . I think it's a step down to make it a beginners type quad.
I found pretty damn good price on this site. It's for 69.99 USD with coupon code: BUGS6S www.gearbest.com/brushless-fpv-racer/pp_623166.html?wid=21&lkid=10866268 I hope it will be useful th-cam.com/video/Dz9RCyhb-5c/w-d-xo.html
Nice video...was long but worth it...fully tested. I really like this quad because it is beginner friendly and unbeatable flight time. Overheating, dirt, giant ant...any number of reasons. Great that you bring the real, honest reviews to the viewers
My first time comment to anything. Thank you for the REAL reviews on rc. I bought the bugs3 from your review on it and love it. I'm waiting for the bugs 250 to come out. Thanks Abby and Nate
There is an fpv goggle out called Hyperion thinview f640 that look pretty amazing for the $100 price range. They can take a lens for glasses so Nate would be able to use these as well. I saw them and there is not really any reviews yet. I'm in the market for a goggle to fpv my bugs 3.
Good review and flight guys, always remember to re calibrate your quad after a crash. I think that the quad is a good one maybe you just got one with a defective motor or dirt in it as others have suggested. I have flown mine quite a few times and have not had any problems at all.
Good review guys! Long video ya, but worth the watch for a real review! Thanks for sticking it out giving it another shot. Just when I thought it was done my heart sank (sure Nathan could agree) then boom up and goin again! Awsome!
The motors are a easy fix, when they lock, or start to click, open them up (5 screws on the bottom, then remove the c-clip in the middle on the bottom of the rotor shaft and then the three washers. Pull the motor in half, magnets and bucket with the shaft, and coils and mounting plate) pull out the obstruction (usually a chip of broken magnet wedged between the magnets and the coils, it will be small and stuck to the inner parts of the motor. (symptoms: locked up motor or clicking grinding sound when you spin it) usually happens when you crash it pretty good due to the plastic to half and the easy to crumble properties of the magnet, not getting enough support from the plastic it chips real easy. But there 1806 brushless. Just get new motors and the prob is gone, or keep pulling the chips out.
Enjoyed watching review on Bugs 8... I wondered immediately if you had not allowed enough time between battery change-out for cool-down. The long flight time on bugs batteries can create lots of heat. I know they are brush less motors but... I have two bugs 3 (red and black). No motor problems yet. (the housing is metal) Bugs 6 is on the way. Plan on using my own goggles so just bought drone with camera. Paid less than $95 on Banggood with flash sale and coupon. Wow! Will let you know if have any of the same troubles. TC
Looking for a beginner drone for myself (51yo, I know an oldie former-biologist who loves tech) and my daughters (10 and 8yo who also love tech). Got to get the kids into all types of tech, potential careers for the future... Thanks for your videos, they are ALL great!
Hey RcSaylors. I have this same bugs 6 quad, and have been flying it for about a year and have not had any issues with the motors, but I have extra motors on hand. Thanks for this video...
I read where the Bugs 8 has a rotor lock protection ESC. Can't find any definitive info on how it works, but could be related to the rotor issue in your video.
You guys are so helpful, thorough, and entertaining...absolutely a wonderful couple with or without the drones. Thanks for the videos! "Proud of ya"...damnit, ya'll are adorable. Keep the videos coming!!!
I'd like to see more investigation of the motor problem. As others have said it could be a faulty motor or could have been jammed up by debris or could have over-heated. I like the honesty of your reviews in general but I think this needs a follow-up so we all know exactly what happened. Does that make sense?
Well that was interesting. I've been having fun with my new Bugs 3, but the camera for it hasn't come out yet! I stuck a lousy TX01 on it, just ordered a TX03, see if that's better. Yes, those plastic motor housings are suspicious, seems like the wrong place to save a few manufacturing pennies. Maybe just get a Bugs 3, they are under $100 now (without any camera). If you can get to fly the Bugs 6 more it would be interesting to hear if that motor seizes up again, but I have to think it will. And I hate flying expecting the aircraft to fall out of the sky any second.
For this dron is a recommendation to use gugl G3 glasses and D43 screen, I see also use other FPV glasses. Do they really need G3 and D43, or maybe some other can probably be found at a cheaper price. And you would recommend. What is actually the correct frequency of the channel or something else
Hi !!!! I would love to see a review of bugs 8 pro, with a comparison to the Furious 215 and Falcon 210. Which one is better for a beginner to learn acro and freestyle?
Have you compared the range between the Bugs 6 and Bugs 3? My Bugs 6 flew out of range just after getting a single beep range alert. It did not respond and kept flying and crashed 100m away. With the Bugs 3 I could always control it when I got the beep. I feel the Bugs 3 can fly a larger distance. And possibly the Bugs 6 alarm comes up when the quad it is too close to the point of no return. Result, no visible damage, but 3 motors would not spin. I could only find spares for the Bugs 3. I ordered a basic B6 instead for 67 USD and use the crashed one for spares. I really like how it flies, but I feel it may be less reliable than the B3. I would love if you guys did a test in a large field. Where I was there was public wifi, I am wondering if that may have caused interference.
Compared to the bugs 3 and 2, wich one is the fastest one? Or let's say sportiest one ? Because I read that the bugs 6 is slower than bugs 3, and bugs 2 because of GPS is the slowest one. So thinking about price and size, is maybe for speed and reliability still a bugs 3 is the best choice? Thank for your advice.
I bet you got dirt in the motor and that caused it to lock up. I am really excited to test the Bugs 6 I got yesterday. I plan to do it in a wide open space though :)
I love your videos guys , I was loving this drone and was really considering buying it , right up in till it locked up a motor . now I'm kind of on the fence . thanks for the great reviews , very informative .....keep up the good work .
I generally build my quads. I was having issues with one quad constantly losing a motor. I replaced several and even an ESC. Turns out, the very thin motor wires were breaking. You can replace those motors quite inexpensively with metal ones.. Actually, I think that's just a bad bearing.. replace the bearings..
Was the motor that locked up the same one that had the bent prop and was vibrating? What is the metal pole down the hill? Frisbee golf hole 9? I saw another to the side of the path up the hill.
You did a video on a bugs 3 which you said you really liked. What is the difference between the the 3 and the 6 as I am looking to buy. I also have an MJX 600H, will the transmitter from the 600 bind to the 3 or the 6?
Nate & Abby did you ever find out what was wrong with the motor on the Bugs 6. I seen a video the MJX had a few bad bearings and they fall apart. could that be your problem?
Hey guys, watching your videos helped me buy a bugs 2w but first day I was flying it took a dive and now the lights will not come on for the checks that it dose. It looks up the phone and the controller but no flying. Is there any place to send it for repairs? Thanks Dennis.
Another excellent review and I like the way you give an honest appraisal, always pointing out weaknesses and possible problems. I assumed brushless motors were better, but I agree that cost cutting and using plastic in place of metal (and surely the additional cost would be minimal for adding this to the motor components) is not good for the consumer. Keep up the good work and best wishes to you both :)
I was impressed it came with goggles,I saw this last night on Banggood and was suprised at all you get for the cost. I have a fat head also so having narrow glasses would bum me out. Those chinese guys have smaller heads.lol. Nice view of the park as usual. Kristal got me the H 100 RC boat for my birthday. She was going to ask Abby about batterys,She wasnt sure it came with them. Lol. I do need a spare. I hope to get it out tomarrow. Kitchen is 85% done !
This is the video i like the most coz i love mjx bugs and i like the place not your usual drone testing place and abby flying a race drone is epic 🤗🤗🤗🤗
is there something you can recommend under 300$ that is rtf? more so focused on video quality than going fast. been in rc a long time but I'm a newb to the drone scene.
Great video. Do you think you might review the Cheerson CX-23. It sells for around $200.00 also and has brushless motors too. A few other reviews give it the thumbs up but I value your opinion quite a bit.
It's been a while since I've flown mine, but your monitor might be on the "DVR Recording" setting rather than the live view setting. That's usually the only cause of 5.8 ghz ever having latency issues.
Hi from Down Under! Another great review showing your total honesty with the products you showcase. Apart from heat dissipation, I don't know if there is any real disadvantage in using plastic housings in brushless motors, seems a lot of people are experimenting with them at the moment, and if weight can be saved and production costs reduced, might be a bit of a win in pricing, performance and flight times? Just a thought. Another point, if the product is in the US $200 mark, surely if it is faulty, a refund or replacement would be in order. Anyway, I will be (as always), looking forward to your next video, keep up the great work!
The motor crapping out after 2 batteries, that's a chiller for me. Just a thought though... Is there a possibility that when she had those 2 crashes, some debris might have got wedged in the housing somehow?
Oh man. That's a real shame with the motors. Other than a teeny tiny 20 dollar micro, I was debating whether to get a Bugs 3 or 6 as my first 'real' drone. Decided to go with the older 'tested and proven' 3. Looks like I made the right call! I wasn't even aware cheap plastic housing for brushless motors was even a thing. Eventually, later down the line I'll probably grab this one too, can't argue that at least aesthetically it looks so much more pleasing. Can't imagine what the flight time this beastie would have with an upgraded s3 battery. Thank you for the review, other than the ants it definitely looked like it was a blast to fly.
why did the motor locked up? that is what after mine crashed. 3 motors busted like that. Bugs 3 may be better quality. You could replace the B6 motors with the B3. most likely
So what's the point on the mjx bugs 8 web page where it says that they have protective motor locks? Are you sure this didn't happen on purpose the way it should lock up?
I'm glad I watched the whole video. Did something get onto that one motor and was locking it up maybe? If I got one I would fly it until I had problems with the motors then upgrade them. I see the Bugs 6 is only $174 with camera, monitor, and googles. Not bad. I'll add it to my wish list. And another great video.
Sounds like a bit of dirt in motor, Maybe you should have a little can of compressed air in with you box of trick just for when it does take a tumble. How do I get my hand on some of your stickers. When I have the money I will buy a t/shirt
nice review , I am split between bugs 3 and bugs 6. I am not specific about racing frame or fpv. I have a fpv camera and screen already I can modify either of these into fpv quadcopters . Which one is more durable ? and which do you recommend ?
Well, you may not have watched this full video. Near the end something happens while flying that you'll definitely want to take note of. Also, we have the actual Bugs 6 video coming out tonight, so be sure to check that out and I think it'll make your decision very easy ;)
Thanks RcSaylors I watched it fully and the new video too (Bugs 6). I am surprised at the low quality motors. However this could totally possible in Bugs 3 too right because both use identical motors. What do you think should I buy Bugs 3 at all or do you recommend and similar price range brushless quadcopter ?
Sometimes you can turn the quad upside down and gently work the motor back and forth the allow the sand/dirt to fall outta the windings. Can't go overkill, just be easy.
A lot of people are suggesting dirt here, and I honestly don't think it was dirt because it wasn't grinding around or anything when I turned the motors. I didn't hear any sand or feel any hard resistance.. it was very steady resistance if that makes any sense, almost like some putty got in there or something, or like Super Thick Grease.
I don't know I think it would have when it crashed if it got dirt in it it would wouldn't work that all I think it got to Hot but I fairly new to flying drones but great video guys ⚓️👍
I saw a reveiw that said the Bugs 6 had a built in DVR or SD card in the drone. But saw a answered question that ask if it recorded. And the answer was " No " is this true ?
I really like this for a 3rd drone perhaps. I currently have an altitude hold drone, what is a good (but cheap) drone that is not altitude hold that might get me used to flying a drone like this?
I'll bet you over heated the ESC flying back to back packs. Shouldn't happen but god knows what they put in there. The motor getting stiff and twitching is a sure sign of a shorted winding. More then likely a FET in the ESC got stuck closed and reset after you unplugged it or cooled down.
Hey all, Could you please help me mod or disable the lvc on a bugs 6? The warning goes off as soon as I plug a full battery in (checked with voltmeter, no bad cells). After about 5 min of flight (and annoying beeping) the quad lands itself. There is still plenty of juice left in the battery. It looks like the lvc kicks in prematurely. Thanks!
You would think so the way it looked but it didn't act like dirt got in there. It almost acted like it got into some thick grease or something, then suddenly it just loosened back up!
Hmm... That motor issue was pretty weird... I almost wonder if something possibly got sucked into it an after you spinning it by hand so much it worked it's self out... Or possibly the plastic basket got knocked out of alignment from the first impact an it just wasn't extremely noticeable until it fell out of the sky... Could had been a defective motor from the start... Good review as always, you guys did a few reviews that day...
I always watch u guy's videos and i think that u guys do a great job and i was wondering where u can by these drones because im looking into them thanxs
I really think that motor problem can happen to anyone and motor regardless of the name on the side of it... and right after I typed that you fired the drone back up and it was working... what the???? totally strange! What i was going to say was that faulty motors happen to the best of names... but dang that's strange! Great vids... I really wanted one of these but I'm passing up on it now!
You might think so based on it's reaction, but check this video out - th-cam.com/video/4Eat-ZHp2lg/w-d-xo.html This will help narrow things down for ya ;)

I think you called that correctly, I can't really think of another explanation.

Yea crashed it twice flew on a dodgy blade and saying its crap...ha ha..lol
I love when abby flies. She actually tests the drone. Crashes are important
I still like it I'm glad I stayed and watched I'm buying it thanks rc Saylors.
Fair enough :) It is still a great set up. Happy Flying!

So what's better bugs 3 or 6/8?
I don't own a bugs 6 or 8 love the bugs 3. Plastic motors doesn't sound good to me.
Rich Glaser how much money did the setup cost?

hi there most times a brush less motor locks is because dust gets in it or after a crash the magnets may come free it happen to a me few times
I like it better when Abbey is flying! thanks for the video really informative!

I have the Bugs 6 and I LOVE it!

I have been using my bugs6 for 4months and it’s still working well even though I crash it many times maybe you got defective unit ....
Was the motor that locked up the same one that had the bent prop and was vibrating? What is the metal pole down the hill? Frisbee golf hole 9? I saw another to the side of the path up the hill.
It may have been that motor. I honestly can't be 100% sure. Those metal things are Frisbee golf holes :) It's a very nice and popular course.
I see you previously reviewed the Bugs 3. In your opinion, do they fly about the same? And, are the batteries compatible with one another?
My son and I really like your videos!
Thank you guys :-)
You did a video on a bugs 3 which you said you really liked. What is the difference between the the 3 and the 6 as I am looking to buy.
I also have an MJX 600H, will the transmitter from the 600 bind to the 3 or the 6?
Glad I watch to the end of review ! Great video & "HONEST" Review !
I pick up a Bugs 6 on ebay and I love it a very nice flying Quad thanks of the review
Nate & Abby did you ever find out what was wrong with the motor on the Bugs 6. I seen a video the MJX had a few bad bearings and they fall apart. could that be your problem?
Did you remember to put the washer back on when you changed the prop, w/o washer maybe it developed friction and heat
Yeah I did. I think the plastic may have warped with the heat of flying twice on both batteries :/
Nice flying, that clamp is like what the phantom 3 has just it clamps round the motor instead.
Interesting :) Thanks Owen!
This seems a lot like a walkera runner 250, but a newer version. Definitely a good beginner drone.
Very informative, just bought a 6. Can't wait to fly it, carefully.
Hey guys, watching your videos helped me buy a bugs 2w but first day I was flying it took a dive and now the lights will not come on for the checks that it dose. It looks up the phone and the controller but no flying. Is there any place to send it for repairs? Thanks Dennis.
nice, Abby did a good job. upgrading my bugs3 to fpv at the moment! hope everything works like I think!
Glad you watched this all the way through and noticed the failure :) Just wanna see people making the most of this hobby!
You gave a link for battery is a 4s with tx60 that will fit on the mjx 6?
I was impressed it came with goggles,I saw this last night on Banggood and was suprised at all you get for the cost. I have a fat head also so having narrow glasses would bum me out. Those chinese guys have smaller heads.lol. Nice view of the park as usual. Kristal got me the H 100 RC boat for my birthday. She was going to ask Abby about batterys,She wasnt sure it came with them. Lol. I do need a spare. I hope to get it out tomarrow. Kitchen is 85% done !
Thanks for the video. It's very interesting. I am always learning something new about drones
Hi, would it be safe to buy a bugs 6 these days? Have mjx sorted out that bad motor issue?
This is the video i like the most coz i love mjx bugs and i like the place not your usual drone testing place and abby flying a race drone is epic 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Question? Will the Hubsan Transmitter H501S-15 work with the Hubsan H501e?
Do the aftermarket goggles work with the dji spark.
And this supports a 4s battery ? In your description you recommend one
Great,Real World Video You 2!! Fun to watch,Useful Info Too!!
is there something you can recommend under 300$ that is rtf? more so focused on video quality than going fast. been in rc a long time but I'm a newb to the drone scene.
What type of motors could I use as replacement motors?
Great video how much is the bugs 8 cost sae as bugs 6 ..
Great video. Do you think you might review the Cheerson CX-23. It sells for around $200.00 also and has brushless motors too. A few other reviews give it the thumbs up but I value your opinion quite a bit.
Just bought one, but need to know how good it is,
Can you make a video on how to connect your race drone to your goggles.
Some goggles just have an auto scan button, and others you just change the channels like on TV until you see a clear image :)
Great upload! I just got mine and the latency I'd so bad it's almost unflyable. Any suggestions?
A lot of people thought this exact same thing, but check this video out if you have a few minutes. th-cam.com/video/4Eat-ZHp2lg/w-d-xo.html
You could replace the B6 motors with the B3. most likely
Informative video again Saylors :)
So what's the point on the mjx bugs 8 web page where it says that they have protective motor locks? Are you sure this didn't happen on purpose the way it should lock up?
RC saylors who won the 80k sub giveaway? And when is or was it?
I'm glad I watched the whole video. Did something get onto that one motor and was locking it up maybe? If I got one I would fly it until I had problems with the motors then upgrade them. I see the Bugs 6 is only $174 with camera, monitor, and googles. Not bad. I'll add it to my wish list. And another great video.
Thanks Gary :) Yeah we plan on covering the 6 very soon. Maybe we will do a follow up on this in that video ;)
You should have fpv the standard fpv goggles man your the best pilot to show how good the standard ones are dude...?
Ahhh. Yea true. I didn't hear anything in the video either. Probably just one of those things haha. They know just when to act up :)
I don't know I think it would have when it crashed if it got dirt in it it would wouldn't work that all I think it got to Hot but I fairly new to flying drones but great video guys ⚓️👍
Thank you. I have a bugs 2 I have only flown a few times. It will not bind and constant flash all yellow nights. Any suggestions?
I just followed up with a similar comment of yours a minute ago 😉👍😀⚓😎
I like how you put the rc sailors logo onto the fpv goggles :D
Thanks :) We thought it looked pretty cool there ;)
Nate. Does this on3 have auto hover?
I saw a reveiw that said the Bugs 6 had a built in DVR or SD card in the drone. But saw a answered question that ask if it recorded. And the answer was " No " is this true ?
I really like this for a 3rd drone perhaps. I currently have an altitude hold drone, what is a good (but cheap) drone that is not altitude hold that might get me used to flying a drone like this?
Or want something like this for a 3rd one.
Might want to check this out - goo.gl/FjOdTS
Here is our video on it as well - th-cam.com/video/BQZ7RW-Gguo/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, I have seen that one but was looking for something less than $100 if possible.
Hey all,
Could you please help me mod or disable the lvc on a bugs 6? The warning goes off as soon as I plug a full battery in (checked with voltmeter, no bad cells). After about 5 min of flight (and annoying beeping) the quad lands itself. There is still plenty of juice left in the battery. It looks like the lvc kicks in prematurely.
Thanks!
Can you put 5" props on the bugs 6?
Excellent flying Nate & Abby!! I agree with Ryan on that with dirt getting into the motor :)
You would think so the way it looked but it didn't act like dirt got in there. It almost acted like it got into some thick grease or something, then suddenly it just loosened back up!
TheRcSaylors Good point there too. Glad it's working again
Make sure dirt or grit is not caught between the stater or rotor when you get it home!!
I love all your videos and thank you very much for doing the review
Nice video but can u do the review of jjrc h39wh please
I always watch u guy's videos and i think that u guys do a great job and i was wondering where u can by these drones because im looking into them thanxs
Thank you very much! We actually have these linked in the description box of our video, but I'll post the link here for you as well :)
goo.gl/HV9e6f
Do the 8 and six have the same motors. I worry about problems after seeing you fly the 6
Same motors yeah. It's really the exact same quad except for the plastic shell on top.
TheRcSaylors thanks for the reply. Have you heard anything else about other people having problems with the motors?
Wow, I was considering this quad. Thanks for the video. How do you enter to get enter the give away?
Can y'a do a video comparing the video quality of the phantom 4 vs the phantom 3
Juliun Pontoni they don't have either of them.
Owen Williams oh ok thx bro
Was that the motor which had the damaged prop? The bang could have jarred it a bit or something... Just guessin'!
We believe it was due to over heating sadly. Those plastic housings around the brushless motors just can't hold up like the metal ones :/
Piece of something fell from the tree, dirt? Did it continue to fly with that motor?
You might think so based on it's reaction, but check this video out - th-cam.com/video/4Eat-ZHp2lg/w-d-xo.html
This will help narrow things down for ya ;)
Maybe the flight time worked against you for the motor to go bad?
