- The college football game between North Carolina and App State had a wild ending as the Tarheels were able to come out on top 63-61. App State trailed 41-21 entering the fourth quarter, but scored FORTY points in the quarter to nearly steal the game. App State scored a touchdown with just nine seconds left to make it 63-61, but failed on the two point conversion.

tarheels defense getting flagged and playing bad and the guy returning the onside kick at the end when he just needed to go down to the turf with the ball lead to 13 more points being scored.

I remember being so frustrated by the onside kick return TD. Just fall to the ground and let your team win it!
UNC really tried every way they could to lose this game in the 4th. An impressive effort, but unfortunately they got the win.

@@pineytreez6811 that's not the point of the post. coaches should've coached up the players that recovering the onside kick was all that they needed to get out with the dub.

Correct. Scoring in the final minute ahead by 1 point is the worst thing you can do in that situation. And then they compounded the stupidity by getting a 15-yard celebration penalty. They thought they had put the game away when in reality they had just left the door wide open for their opponent. Bad situational coaching by the staff and even worse awareness by the players.

I watched it live but I turned it off after the first missed 2pt conversion with 1 min left in the game. Couldn’t believe both teams scored another touchdown each with under 30 seconds left in the game.

This is the definition of why college sports are the best. There’s never a time where a team gives up.
As a UNC fan, I tip my hat to App State for roaring back like they did from 3 scores back to give UNC a run. App State is going to have a great year in the Sun Belt hopefully competing for the Sun Belt championship again against Coastal Carolina (another team I root for)
I believe the game would have been over if not for Cavalzos (UNC #6 who was hit with a PI at the end) re-opening the door for App State to get another shot...that was uncalled for knowing UNC had the game in the bag

App S. is a good team they proved that but there’s absolutely no excuse for Carolina allowing those TDS at the end of the game. They need a drilling so severe they’ll never perform like that again
The refs sucked let’s just admit that, terrible calls everywhere and they almost all were favored towards app state
@@jimsmith9546 Gene Chizik still has some work to do with the UNC defense now that he's a defensive coordinator but I believe he'll get them into shape. Still a long way to go in this season
Could have avoided that by just kneeling instead of running it back to the endzone
It's so frustrating watching group of 5 schools come so close and choke. App should have won this; ECU should have beaten NC State as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do against Texas A&M next week. If App cleans up their defense they might have a shot at scaring them.

This is exactly what I'd expect from App State, minus the blown 2 pt conversions.
So many good games week 1. Cincinnati Arkansas, this game, Wyoming Tulsa, Illinois Indiana, Ohio State and Notre Dame, etc. Great to see football back and booming
USC vs Texas will always be the greatest game I’ve ever watched. But this one is up there for sure.
Nebraska vs. Oklahoma Thanksgiving Day 1971 remains my favorite. Johnny Rodgers with the incredible Kick Return TD to the joy of Chris Schenkel and Bud Wilkinson on The ABC Broadcast and Lyell Bremser on NU's. Jeff Kinney salting it away late. The late great Jack Mildren throwing consummately well for The Sooners. A true "Game of The Century" thriller from start to finish.🤔🎤🏈B.W.
OTher UNC fans complain about how badly we played and I'm here just thankful we survived the onslaught.

I actually switched to another game when the onside kick was returned for a TD. I thought it was over right there. Damn what an insane game. Both teams putting up 60+ points in regulation. They scored a combined 62 in the 4th quarter alone.
That kind of score tells me that neither team has a decent defense!
Damn imagine scoring 40 points in the 4th quarter and still losing the game… that’s just unfortunate

I've always wondered if special teams coaches consider instructing their players on KOR to just fall on an onside kick if you get it instead of attempting a return in THAT scoreboard situation. That ALMOST backfired totally.

After watching the App State vs Troy game....my Tar Heels were really lucky to escape with a win....and it was good to see Mack Brown get a win on his birthday....🙂
The zaniest craziest most insane game I’ve ever seen. If the Heels just fall on that onside kick, they can take a knee and run out the clock.

Just WOW!!! I Love APP State, they have a Great School and Campus. This was my Son's first Choice in Colleges but sadly can't go do to the Marines but We will still Root for them every chance we get.

Some of those "unnecessary roughness" calls were unnecessary themselves. If you're that concerned for players safety, then fine. Just play 2-hand touch or flag football and eliminate all contact period.

Recorded the game and it ran out after Carolina #6 got the penalty. Watching these highlights I’m glad we won but the way our defense played at the end was a disgrace

One comment I have to make about that game is that last touchdown, had he gone out of bounds at like the 10 or 15 then UNC could kneel down and App would call a time out (final one) and then kneel down again and the ball game is over. There was no need to get that last touchdown other than basically looking for personal glory instead of team glory you know? Doing what he did allowed App St. to almost tie it if the D hadn't made that stand it did at the 2-pt conversion. This is coming from a UNC fan lol

Yet again, we have an instance of players not understanding how clock-play works. If you have the means to run out the clock and you have the ball, _under any circumstances,_ *DO NOT SCORE*. Take your kneel downs, and get the heck out of there with your win. There is no reason to run that onside kick back for a touchdown there. Slide, give the ball to your offense to set up victory formation.

North Carolina isn’t going to do good this year. Because they gave up 61 points to a sunbelt team. Forty of them were scored in a matter of fifteen seconds.

UNC's defensive coordinator should be fired after that defense gave up 40 points in the fourth quarter. It was embarrassing and unacceptable. I watched this incredible game.

UNC must get a pass rush and the D will improve. No pass rush has to much pressure on secondary also # 3 mus get his head turned around. Offense jus needs to keep rolling
They ran the exact same play for the 2 point conversion? Did the coach not have any other 2 point play in his arsenal? They wasn't going to leave him wide open a second time

The only Unc football games that could be better than this one are the 2020 and 2021 Unc vs Wake Forest games. Tho I would lean towards 2020 sense Sam Howell went off for a school record 550 passing yards and 7 tds (1 rush) and led a 17 point come back to win.
Why on earth did that guy return the onside kick? That's actually a strategy by the kicking team. "If we don't get it back, let them run it back so we still get it back when we shouldn't get it back"

Note to self: If 1 point ahead with other side trying onside kick...if you get the ball do NOT try to score a quick touchdown.
This is why college ball is so much better than pro.
Maybe both teams should've had their bands play defense.
