The flight departed from JFK Airport to Seoul, via Anchorage, Alaska. The 747 was shot down by an Su-15 interceptor. One of the Soviet-fired air-to-air missiles detonated 160 feet behind the 747, puncturing the fuselage, causing rapid decompression, which caused the KAL 747 to crash into the Sea of Japan, killing all 269 passengers on board, including Larry McDonald, a U.S. Representative from Georgia. KAL 007 disappeared from radar approximately 12 minutes after the initial attack. At first the Soviets denied knowledge of the incident, but later admitted to shooting down the aircraft, which they claimed was on a reconnaissance mission, and they accused the U.S. of deliberately provoking the incident, "to test the military preparedness" of the Soviet Union. On Sept. 7th, 1983, the U.S. embarrassed the Soviet Union in front of the world by releasing a transcript of Soviet communications, intercepted at the Japanese listening post of Wakkanai. This just escalated the Cold War between the U.S. & the Soviets. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.
I thought the part in the intro where the silon passes Face (Starbuck) and there is a second of recognition was hilarious! 😀
I was conceived around october 1983, and born in the middle of 1984. I only remember from late 1986 to later. I missed out on most of the 1980's.
Love these videos. What I love even more are the types of videos and live footage that puts the viewer in the moment and as they happen.
This just made me realize if my parents were already hooking up this year. I had no idea about their lives before having me. I should start asking my mom since my dad passed away 😕
I'd hook up with you lol. Jk.... kinda! The 80s were dope tho for sure!
Sleepaway camp may it's debut and the ending was a shocker. 😀👍⛺
It was the most bizarre and shocking movie. I just re-watched it a few weeks ago
I was twelve years old when ALL OF THIS happened and clearly remember it.
18. The 80s were the best.
Was it all “upside down”?
No you don’t
I was born December 24, 1983. Whoa.
I can’t wait for 1989 and 1991, man those years were fantastic
Looking forward to 1984😺 you are taking me back to jr high🌟
Hot damn you guys struck gold with this 80’s series 🔥
Actually far more, my best friend died in November of 83, changing the direction of my life. RIP. Bruce, "On the Loose". Miss You.
The 80's were great. Thanks for the memories.
I was born in 83. Although I was a little disappointed that I wasn't mentioned in this video, I have to say... it's still a pretty good video. Actually, I love this channel. Thanks for making great content!
I love the consistency of these posts on Timeline series. The 80's decade. Keep it up Weird History. Great content.
From the looks of it 1983 was the real start of “The 80s” everything from 1980-1982 was just an extension of 1970s culture
Yup, that's also how it feels like in hindsight (I was there). The late '70s to '82 was it's own thing. The stereotypical "'80s" '80s was from '83-'87 and '88 to say '93 was another era.
Yep- you nailed it. That’s often the case. 1990-1992 was also just an extension of the 80’s , 1970-1972 an extension of the 60’s and so on...
Every decade is like this. It takes a while for the previous decade to wash away.
John Massey that hasn’t been the case for the 2020s 😂
@@karlitosway7474 Hold my Corona Beer!
I love this series! I've been waiting for '83 for a couple weeks.
If you didn't live in the 80s, you really missed out on a "killer" decade!! 🤟
Early 2000 to 2006 was the best.
@@missxmarvel you're dreaming
Oh god yes!
@@perikoala86 oh, everyone’s experiences during elementary-school through their early 20s are almost always looked back on fondly. It happens with with every single generation.
I would say late 70s-2000 was the height of pop culture, quality of music, the best tv shows, and the rise of technology. 9/11 pretty much threw that all out.
Born 1971. Had tons of fun from the late 70s and came of age during the 80s!
What a great time to be alive! In hindsight and the current situation nowadays, the most fun decade hands down.
This series is so enjoyable. Please keep going!
As always, WELL DONE! A+
Absolutely loving this series!! I sure hope you guys will continue 😊 I was born in ‘83 so particularly enjoyed this one, it was awesome seeing what was popular the year I was born ☺️
The momentum around this time in America what a Blast.
Yes! In everything it seemed.
Thank you so much for Timeline. Hope to see other decades covered like this, this is amazing.
YES! THE NEXT YEAR!!
Thank you guys for keeping this segment going! You struck gold here with Timeline.
V the minieseries is the best thing that happened in all of the 1980s to me.best tv show ever.🖤😍💖💚💛.word up son
I loved V.
@@crzybilly1974 yep.best 📺 tv show ever.word up son
Loved the original series of "V". You actually cared about the people. Incredibly thought provoking. It was a science fiction programme, but it is a very prophetic series. Totalitarian suppression of the truth. A. T. & T and other media outlets, taken out of our control. People informing on each other, trust and respect among colleagues, neighbours and family members severely "tested". Remind any one of anything?
I LOVE this series!
This series in my new addiction.
Once again u made my sunday. Bring on #1984! I was 3 years old going on 4 in 84. Lol. Cant wait!
These are constructed so well. Look forward to seeing more in the future.
GREAT WORK AND AWESOME VOICE OVER.
I cannot wait to see what you say about 1984
Oh God I love this series! I can't wait to turn 9 on the next one!
This series is gold my guy
Keep them coming! I miss the 80's!!!
I was born in 85 so I wasn’t born yet. Thanks for this great video.
Loving this series!
1983 is when the 80's started for real, 1980-82 where still kind of 70's
It's true. A lot of the 70s swapped over. Somehow the 70s were actually 70s even at the beginning.
If you think, then 1980 to 1982 have less '80s. 1983 have little more '80s. Drago1995, why would you think of that? 🤔
They say that "First Blood" is the bridge between 70's movies and 80's movies. It was a 70's production, cut in an 80s way.
What did Weird History miss about 1983? I have one example. On April 18, 1983, Disney Channel was launched and was used to be called The Disney Channel. Flash forward to April 6, 1997, it was renamed to be what we heard today aka Disney Channel. Alternatively, on September 2002, some people may call the channel as just "Disney".
@@Colspex, I like Rambo and I wish I would have learned more about the franchise. First Blood was released in 1982 of course.
I can’t believe you left out the movie “The Day After”. After watching this movie, Reagan adjusted the US Nuclear Program.
Exactly
They devoted a whole segment to it on that NatGeo documentary!
I don’t think some of the millennials and any of generation Z would have the stomach to watch such a movie
john jones agreed! I just watched Threads. Very effective.
Special bulletin! The war of the world's style broadcast. Scared the crap out of my husband and I!
1983 was a very good year ,privileged to live it wouldn’t trade it for anything 👍🏻
This is so cool man!! You guys remind me of my 80s childhood. I miss those years. Thank you and GOD bless you guys. Keep it up.
thanks for another great one
Ahh the 80s......when rock / metal music was the best.
Where all music was the best.
Hell yeah
70s was better
Gynis Carolus Maybe for rock, but the metal music scene in the 80’s was really nice.
This is such a good new series you guys are doing!
Absolutely brilliant!!
Hello my dear friend?
I love the timeline series. Keep them coming please.
This was the year my dad graduated high school. It’s pretty interesting to see the culture back then. Hopefully in years time you guys would make videos for the 2010s and 2020s (especially 2020)
90s was the last great decade. But that’s just my opinion.
@@mr.lincoln2753 yeah to an extent. Early 2000s had some cool stuff too
knives_on_static agreed I think it really went down hill after 911.
Mr. Lincoln And things went even more downhill in the late 2010’s-early 2020’s
Nintendo Style I loved every year since I can remember which is farther back than the 80s every year had something to it that I loved and thought ok another good year ... until 2015 I don’t know what happened but time snapped and things have just been really strange since then ... this year of course being the worst
These series got me nostalgic about a decade i wasn't even born in😭😂
thats what happens when you are part of a great decade unfortunately you young bucks have brought about the worst decades the 2000's and 2010's
@@gregwilliams8032 i have to agree yes, especially about the music
@@gregwilliams8032 and now the first year of the 20's is already taking the cake!
I love this series , please update daily and once you reach 2020 go reverse from 1979
My earliest memories are of the Christmas period in '83. I was 2 and a half years old.
This Weird History is diamond in the rough
You missed “The Day After”-a huge deal at the time.
Jesus Christ that movie gave me PTSD. My 7th grade history teacher made us do a paper on it. I have nightmares about nuclear war to this day.
OMG! YES!
Expect a video based on it, and maybe on its sequel "The day after tomorrow" jk......
I forgot about that movie. I remember everyone sitting around the TV in total shock and silence.
I watched it. My family watched it. Everyone I know watched it. It was a big deal!
