Little John I sort of have a plan to use the horseshoes to make an outdoor fireplace-thingy. As for the random lumps of iron I am mostly curious to find out what they are. The axes that is not too broken I hope to sharpen the blade and fit new shafts so it can be reused.

Add a little dish washing liquid. See if that will help. Also vinegar helps remove rust. Try a little in it with your water
What medium was used in the tumbler?

Have you tried soaking in white vinegar? Works great soak for 24-48 hours then rinse with water.
