    I called up Tropic Marin to ask about the balling method not expecting to talk directly to Lou. He graciously gave me an hour of his time explaining the balling method and then giving me specific recommendations for my system. Great dude!

    I went to one of Lou's seminars at RAP it was a full house, I learned so much, and now it is here, so I can watch it over and over. I took his challenge and I. use Tropic Marine salt and I also use all-for-reef in my IM Lagoon 25.

    22:44 i've been looking for this information/explanation! I've been struggling with the question, why i am using TM Pro? Because it mixes clean and fast? Of course everyone says to mix your salt close to the parameters you keep your DT. I've decided i want to be at 440 CA, 8.9 DKH 1350 MAG and PH 8.5 So, changing salt mix may be in my near future.

    Deven, does all for reef buffer once the levels hits a certain level? Like my cal and mag are good, my alk is a little low. My concern is if adding all for reef to help the tank with alk cause the cal and mag to increase too much or Will they buffer? It’s a 20 gal frag tank and I just got some all for reef. Thanks in advance.

    Online website for carbocalcium indicates to not exceed 25ml daily dosing. So does this means this method is limited to ones who wants a mixed system? For a heavy sps system, this wont work?

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    so in a bigger tank we can mix the carbo-calcium+ solution A+K together in one solution+ separately the magnesium?

  • @andycx2
    @andycx2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you compensate for corals consuming more alkalinity during the lights-on period than at night with carbocalcium? With normal dosing, you just reduce dosing during the night but if carbocalcim has to be metabolised before the alkalinity shows up then you cant control this.

      1 liter Recipe & Directions
      Step 1: Starting with a clean container with at least 1 liter capacity, add 750 mL RODI water. Room temp water is ok, but warm water will help dissolve the powder more quickly.
      Step 2: Slowly add 140g CarboCalcium powder, stir continually.
      Step 3: Add 100 ml Pro-Trace A-
      Step 4: Add 100 ml Pro-Trace K+
      Step 5: Keep stirring. It can take some time for the solution to be clear. Estimate ~20 mins. This is off BRS web page. Look at the DIY all for reef. Same as that minusthe bio mag. Hope this helps.

    First let me say great video. However, here's what aggravates me about this hobby. You hear the 'experts' discuss the usage of their products, but often end up just creating confusion for the customer. When the BRS guys did their last 2-part dosing video just a few months ago, they mentioned speaking with the Tropic Marin folks and was told by them that you can dose the Balling Part C to the BRS 2-part to add trace elements. Now this gentleman is stating that the Part C is NOT used to supplement trace elements, but to "add" them instead, and to use Trace A & K to "supplement" the trace elements. I bought 3 boxes of the Part C thinking that I could use it along with the Carbo-Calcium to maintain trace elements. These guys really need to do a better job of making sure the information about their products that gets released to the customers is accurate and consistent.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Billy, I'm assuming your the same one who posted inthe BRS group. Lou replied there but copying his response for any peeps reading this in the future:
      This is a subject that causes lots of confusion. So it doesn't surprise me that this came up yet again...The True Balling Part C contains Mg and ALL trace elements found in natural sea water, about 70 of them. When you add the Part C, along with the Balling A and B, you are using it to ionically balance the sodium chloride (NaCl) that is the byproduct of the Parts A and B addition. So technically, you are "adding" Mg and trace elements to the system. However, ALL of the Part C that gets added in this way, ends up being diluted when the excess salinity, created by this NaCl and Part C addition, is brought back down with water changes and make up water. So "functionally" your addition of that Mg and trace elements does NOT make up for "consumed" Mg and trace elements. It is only used to ionically balance the NaCl into complete natural sea water components. So you are "adding" them, but not "supplementing" them. That is why you still will need to add supplementary Mg and traces, even when using the true Balling Method. Here is a link to a TH-cam video we did to try to explain this in detail: th-cam.com/video/bZy7RS8kEag/w-d-xo.html

  • @drewlong77
    @drewlong77 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Important! *ANYONE USING BRS 2 PART BALLING METHOD* I just realized that BRS tells you how to use the two part and how and to make sure & use the 2part maintenance to balance out the 2 part and THEN LATER tell you how to use the BALLING METHOD and to use part C WITH BRS 2 PART... BUT NEVER MENTION... WHEN TO ADD IT.. OR that it's mostly MAG, and accomplishing the same thing as 2 part maintenence ACCEPT..with all the natural trace in salt mix...SO.. It sounds like you shouldn't be dosing 2partMAG IF you're adding part C the balling method. Anyone agree disagree? !
