    Saying goodbye to Maria is bittersweet. She has been such a part of this channel this season that she will be missed so much. Her smile was matched by her ability to help you with so many things. We were all rooting for her to stay and sail with you. Bye Maria.

    Your journey reminds of the Olympic coverage - “the thrill of victory & the agony of defeat”. Shared your chills at the 1st startup of Big Red - no better reward for all that work!! Enjoy!!

    I am so glad for you that you are back into the activities you wanted to be in now. I cannot say enough about your determination, your friend Maria, and your attitudes about all of the challenges you have faced, and ultimately overcome. Being impressed just doesn't do it justice!
    From here on: Fair Winds and easy seas! I think you have earned them many times over!

    I showed a friend your channel tonight. I got to season 1, episode 7 “trying to cut the bungee cord “ and had to show her this video for the contrast.
    The determination you have is awe inspiring. Thank you for reminding me to keep dealing with the obstacles in life and to worry about only the things that are important.

    Maybe you should cross the Pacific with Maria and buy her a tichet to fly back? Would give great footage and that way we all could look forward seeing her again in your videos!
    Good luck with your travels and do not worry about your engine, it is brand new!

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      ChezMarquet that was always the plan, but since she always needs someone to look after her boat and the animals, we always just have a short window and we did not make it that season. But never say never 🤞

    Nice to hear Karl's engine quietly running contently the back ground from the cockpit, that's always a great sign, together with constant checks on the exhaust vent discharging raw sea water. You clearly did a great installation. Noisy engines are 'vexatious to the soul'

    Great to see you mobile again Nike! I wish I could say the same for us. We launched the boat 6 weeks ago after my father spending 26 years building and us the last two finishing her after Dad passing away. We have been having a few issues with old rubber seals letting us down, but nothing we can't get sorted. I look forward to spending some time simply sitting in a hammock and doing not much at all!

    well that was like the end of a Chapter saying goodbye to Maria. You both did a terrific job on the engine installation. But when are you (or when did you ;-)) complete installing the engine instrument and control panel?

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Norman Boyes yeah, it is always hard to say goodbye. But I am sitting on her boat in San Blas right now, so it's not too bad 🤣.
      For the panel: shhhhhh, wait and see, one thing at a time. I really wanted to get going so I put that on the "get it done whilst at anchor and enjoying urself" 😜

  • @clayz1
    @clayz1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Nike. At 2:42 what is all that stuff occupying the cockpit? I see a big yellow (?) tarp set up for shade (?) I presume. A fishing pole, another longer pole that goes right out the top of the screen (a larger screen might help me, lol). Happy adventures to you gals.

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ClayZ that is a green piece of cloth for shade, yes, quite important in this area 🤣. A fishing pole, exactly, and the antenna for my SSB which is the one that goes out of the screen... in the cockpit you see two cooling boxes filled with ice and drinks because we had gotten some ice in the marina for some extra cold drinks for the evening. Just the normal stuff really, hehehe. Usually the cockpit is not that full... the cooler stays on the foredeck usually and is used for storing ropes.

    Bad idea to "push the engine quite a bit", most new engines need some period of break in before they are pushed to hard!

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Darrell Allen maybe you missed it in the last episode, but we did run it in as the manufacturer advised. I had been in contact with Beta Marine about it and followed their recommended system.
      From what I understand, boat Diesel engines rather suffer from being run too much at too low RPMs over too long periods. But that's just what I read / heard, I am obviously not a pro. But it kinda made sense to me when I read it.
      What would be the reason not to push it? And well, we were running it at 70- 75% of RPM, so maybe you thought of sth different when I said "pushing it"?!
      Ahoy, Nike

    • @Greggspies
      @Greggspies 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Speaking as Diesel mechanic modern engines don't need nursing they have to be able to perform from new. Rental trucks are pulling 24 ton from leaving the factory gate and continue for 200k + wouldn't worry me marine engines work relatively UN stressed so crack on and fair winds sisters!

    • @WhiteSpotPirates
      @WhiteSpotPirates  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Flatcap007 thanks for the heads up! That's good to know! Beta said more or less the same. Said it does not really need any running in but the manual said do those 15min at different levels so I did it just in case ...

    Before hiking in the jungle make sure you have proper hiking shoes that resist snake bite. The "Fer-de-lance" is a extremely aggressive and dangerous snake in your area.
