I found an art supply haul at an antique/vintage store last month. There were 17 Derwent Inktense pencils, plus , 24 prismacolor pencils, 37 Carbothello pastel pencils, one Caran D'ache pastel pencil, an unused sketchbook and one lone Crayola black pencil, all for $5. I think you'd like Derwent Inktense as they are water based ink pencils and very vibrant! I'm loving all the pencils and have become a pencil person! Your haul is just wonderful......those soft pastels are to die for!
What a thoughtful sister you have! I have been on "second hand shopping era" this year. I picked up some amazing gems on Ebay, as people move on from their supplies. Sometimes these are brand new, as people test supplies and quickly decide they dont like them. I was open to randomness, depending on what came up. I was searching for gouache and specific brands of watercolour. I even found some vintag unopened watercolour sets. So YAY for second hand stuff!
@@EmmaWoodthorpe They are expensive but there are worth the price because they are very pigmented. I keep an eye on discount an each time I find a nice price, I take 5 new colors. I did this with Polychromos when I started drawing and now I have all of them.
Hi hippo and emma I wish there were places like this in my area it could help alot of new and starving artist I know in newyork city they are art co-ops were artist come and drop off art stuff they dont need anymore..we had a refurb warehouse in the next city where there were alot of artists they rented small rooms within old warehouse but a new owner bought it raised prices it became unsustainable for artists which is sad cause you could walk thru warehouse and even purschase artist work that was hanging up, they even had writers there with their books where on shelves to buy..
What a awesome upcycling experience, i use derwent graphitint pencils pans and blocks i really like the smoky color of them i really think you will like them if you just want to play. I use them alot with neocolor2 and derwent inktense. I agree the art median has to feel comfortable within your hand and how you feel laying it on the paper or your other creative art piece Art needs to give you joy within your art soul as your creating your work...happy holidays 🥳🎉🗓2025.

Thank you! The stapled ones look like they are all Daler Rowney, but I know Jacksons Art's Studio Sketchbooks are good too. And the big spiral bound ones are Seawhite to Brighton All Media Acid Free Cartridge Paper Sketchbooks in A2. Hope this helps!

I try not to pigeon-hole myself these days. I've got a bunch of art in my past: real-life portraits, landscapes, cartoons, illustrations. Lot's of things that I used to put aside as I tried to find a niche. But looking back, they all feel like me now. At the moment, I'd describe myself as a picture book illustrator, but lately I've realised that I can also be all the other things too. It feels more healthy that way! Im so jealous that you have anartisy family member to swap things with!!! I can't imagine. I've tried to turn my sister on to art, but it didn't "take," and it's so hard to find friends that do art like I do. If anyone seeing this happens to be from WV hmu 😂
I am pretty annoyed about the "art" you tubers peddling and pushing new art supplies constantly in order to get freebies for themselves, however I do enjoy this video because buying used art supplies is truly worthwhile, it gives a second chance for supplies for valuable resources that would otherwise end up in the landfill unjustly. Just because a tube of paint is half empty does not make the rest of the paint less quality. I also have the habit to value all my supplies, meaning I use them up till there is nothing to sharpen anymore on the pencils. I open up the rest of the tube to get all out. I pay for all of the pencil not only for half, so use all! By all means please start valuing your resources, those are assets for your use. Please artists if you could be all more mindful and promoting this mindset that would also help reducing waste. Who besides you would know if the new set used pencils in the cup mixed in with your existing ones were used by someone else first or by you? ...you see it does not matter. The only thing that matters is that you create and use them.

@@EmmaWoodthorpe happy new year to you as well, yes I always buy used a lot. Of e- bay mostly but I also buy used books of Amazon. Recently I bought a used watercolor book. It said good condition but when it arrived looked like new. I bought watercolors and colored pencils of e bay used before too and there was absolutley nothing wrong with them whstsoever. A lot of time that is the only place where I can find discontinued supplies that I love or just stuff from the old days I like to have. Sometimes it comes from estate sales or people give up their hobbies for one reason or another or some person inherits a household and there are art supplies waiting to be loved again. I love my art supplies new and old and sometimes the old more than the new.
