    Lmao. Ole lady passed through the den and asked. “Where’s all the damn backup alarms!!” She’s too cool. Another great video. Oh,, when you put the camera towards the road,,, going backwards it reminded me of the sound a roller coaster I used to ride back in the late 60s early 70s called the shooting star at Lakeside amusement park in Salem Virginia. Damn I’m old. Lol. Thanks! God bless and peace from Virginia. 🚜🚜🚜🚜🚜

    You're equipment skills are exquisite as always! Keep up the great work. Thanks to Timmy as well. He seems to be getting more comfortable having a personality on camera (not just being a tripod). Lol

    Enjoyed this video. You don't get to see a grader in action very often compared to excavators and skid steers. The design of the grader looks like it hasn't changed much in decades. What an interesting machine...

    Having changed many a grader tire its nice to see your front tire rotation is going the correct way lol, a hundred years ago when I was in my twenties it took the operator a half hour to convince me to put them on the wrong way. He was also the guy who made sure I could operate equipment enough to load them or drive it back to the shop for repairs. All road construction mechanics should have to be taught the basic of operating a vehicle by a old driver that can show them how and WHY things do what they do and take him to the bar on friday, but that never happen and I am sticking to that story.

    You could teach the Dirt road maintainers up here in Michigan a lot- they leave the shoulders higher than the roadbed on both sides, then barely scrape the top of the washboard into the bottoms.. and never roll it...

  • @chrispy104k

    I like your attention to details Chris. It's the kind of detail that is lacking in some shires (we call them shires over here in Oz, you call them county's) over here and the dirt roads are sometimes a mess in the winter due to lack of crown runoff angle.

    it was a little hard to tell in the video, but when you were by that mail box where you cut that little channel for the water to come down the hill... it kinda looked like you still had a secondary ditch by the mail box.. looked like a small one, but that is all it takes to keep the water on the edge of the road and not into the ditch... but like I said the camera shot didn't show to clearly... I work for a township and we still contract the grading out, and we are constantly tell the operators about those secondary ditches and to get rid of them..

    I may be wrong, but it seems to me the grader may be one of the more difficult pieces of heavy machinery to learn to use effectively. Many different adjustments you need to make to the blade as you go along to ensure you get proper drainage and the correct crowns on the roads. Especially since you're doing finish work with one.

    • @rongeci4092
      @rongeci4092 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the rippers will dig under a pot hole. Think of a pot hole as a bowl, if the rippers just scratched the surface and material was put over it the pot hole would return with traffic traveling over it blowing whatever material was in there but dig the rippers under the pot hole the bowl goes away making a flat surface.... Hope that helps.

    • @rongeci4092
      @rongeci4092 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rippers on the front can be used for several things, they can scratch the surface of the road so the material bonds better and they can be used to get under a pot hole to remove it completely. Think of a pot hole as a bowl if you only scratch it then put material over it guaranteed you will have it return but dig under it and traffic can’t blow out the material in there.... @rongeci4092 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They really aren’t designed to grade or back blade backwards not saying it can’t be done just not really designed for it, the reason being is when you back blade you could catch a huge rock hidden in the gravel and snap the mold board ( I’ve done it... lol...) but anyways from what I was taught when I first learned how to operate one was that the blade and cylinders can’t take the pressure as when going forward... I hope that helps.

    • @soldierofdirt81
      @soldierofdirt81 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@TheSoloAsylum that's about the only time I ever used them was to recover a road. You just have to remove every other shank for harder packed materials, if the scarfiers are mid or front mount. I always prefer rear mounted scarfiers. More power is applied pulling them than pushing them, and you have more weight to the rear of the machine.
