I remembered this old communion hymn we used to sing when we are in the choir at Good Shepherd Church in Madras in the 70s and could not but be moved to tears. What majesty of words and what a tune! And especially the last two verses! This is the tune we used to sing and it seems to be a rare find these days. Thank you so much for sharing this.

I have found this beautiful performance of this wonderful hymn a great blessing, thank-you. His name has been glorified through its singing. God's richest blessing to your community.

The tune is 'Bangor' by William Tans'ur. It is the tune set to the hymn in the 'old' English Hymnal.

This hymn is 300 in The English Hymnal. Alas, the New English Hymnal abandoned the tune for something Lilley to be more 'popular'. Consequently, no-one sings it any more.

@@listertonge I've just looked in New English Hymnal and found, to my relief, that the hymn is still set to 'Bangor'; it's #270. You had me worried for a moment!

@@michaeloconnell532 my apologies! I fongbknow what zi was confusing this with.
Nevertheless, this stunning hymn is hardly ever sung. I used it as the introit at my first mass in 1976 and at my last in regular ministry in 2020.

@@listertonge I certainly wasn't finding fault, Lister. I was prompted to check both EH and NEH and spent several minutes after checking the point in hand enjoying flicking through both books and rediscovering hymns I sang as a boy but not since. It must be 50 years before last Sunday since I sang this one. Best wishes.
