I had the great pleasure of watching the Moscow Phil under the baton of YS back in May 2000, at the City Hall in Sheffield, Yorkshire.... it was a night I will always treasure & remember, when they played the "Young Prince & Princess" from "Scherherazade" I was floating on a cloud... it was sublime! Recently I saw him conducting 21 hungarian dances by Brahms. One after another! That was sooo good! And the orchestra is very good too! Thank you for the concert, Maestro!
I know that it is not the classic way to conduct, but this movement in hands when you feel the music, is very near to the dance. Good conductor, usually is a good dancer, too.
He used to be principal conductor of bolshoi theatre, don't forget. He mainly conducted ballet and opera, and because of his dancing like conducting was exceptional. Many former dancers become ballet conductors. My mum had an affair with Juri back in the late 70s. 😁 She was a pianist. My dad was a conductor too, so I guess she just liked conductors 🤣
Super funny, but extremely professional. His attention to details is magnificent and mindboggling. Like Sergiu Celibidache, one of the best conductors I have ever seen. Unfortunately, their species is almost extinct. Bravo Maestro !
