About this project: I am writing a weekly sci-fi story to the theme of Isaac Arthur’s SFIA videos. It’s a crazy challenging timeframe to create a good short story in, and to do so publicly is even more daunting. I’m just hoping some good stories come out of this, I have fun writing them, and most importantly, the audience enjoys!
    Thanks for stopping by!
(Neither this channel nor this video are affiliated with or endorsed by Isaac Arthur or SFIA, the author’s just a big fan)

And now for something completely different . . . 🦶
😃 This story is the runner-up/co-winner of last month's story topic poll: "Earth After Humanity."
I'm not sure what it is about the audience topics, but they always seem to bring out something different and unpredictable. So I'd love to get the next poll rolling. I've already gotten a few great suggestions, but I'd love to have a few more to put in the poll. Let me know here if you have a topic you'd love to see a story for! Thanks, everyone!

this is inspired, in a word, I had to listen through twice my first response was simply awed, and the second was super-way awed. the references to so many value systems and classical literature from the flawed perspective of machine learning is simply amazing. it left me with the feeling I had been visited by a Bodhisattva dedicated only to speaking in questions and parable. it has the flow of documentary the implied wisdom of folklore, and a rich finish of prophetic warning.

Notfooled, thank you for those kind words 🙏 I never know when the muse visits. I usually find out after when I'm editing the audio and notice something in the story I don't remember thinking about and wonder how it got in there--usually the best parts.

I was still so awed that I couldn't find words until I read Notfooled's comment.
      That's exactly it!
The story is terrifyingly convincing. It is itself the poetic form of protest that the story documents. It seems the Earth is voicing her distress through the only medium that is capable of relaying the message: the story.
It has absolutely brought me to tears.

Well its far fetched to believe this scenario would occur. How did the bots attain the power? Wouldn't robots have a significant foot print on earth themselves? Wouldn't it actually be amazing to have O'Neill Cylinders, ( if they were voluntarily populated. ) Wouldn't endless war be a given if you forcibly removed humanity? I know these aren't the issues addressed though.
So be that as it may you did a spectacular job of exploring the spiritual ramifications. I loved the Amish guy calling the robot a "talking plowshare" ! The Bulls! The arguments of different groups. The naturalist atheist calling the cylinders prisons! An amazing breath of understanding. And creating what I most love about science fiction itself, thought experiments and new ideas. You did a great job.
as for another idea - how about a war between space pilgrims and a previously unknown independent sentient robot civilization, over a rich asteroid belt the pilgrims hoped to mine on the way to their destination sun. - if you can fit that in a pole.

@@RoweLit something to think about as you read old stuff: they don't have words for "abstractions" "metacognition" or "mental constructs". To the ancient mind, those things are a part of the spirit realm. Philosophy and metaphysics are the natural bridge between the spirit and scientific inquiry. Only in the last few hundred years has academia isolated religion, philosophy, and science from each other. Even in the word "psychology" this can be seen. It is the study of "ψυχή," which means "soul" and is the same word used in the Bible.

The story line did , indeed, resonate. I do not live in fear of AI as I have yet to see a computer that does not need electricity or have a back door. You could, in a pinch ask a pesky AI to do a divide by zero and hope it just loops for ever. What I do fear is self loathing and self important people who would make global decisions for us simple folks. I really, really liked the fourth dialogue with the atheist who summed it all up like it was straight out of Spinoza, God and Nature are one and the same and that humanity and its actions could not be separated out.
