When you were talking about being grateful that you don't feel like you're producing videos out of desperation to connect with other trans people anymore, that hit really close to home 😅 Lately I've been thinking about making videos about trans stuff for that exact reason. The only place where I really feel connected to other trans people is online, but I don't really post my own stuff--I just appreciate other people's content. Which is great, but I'm not doing any socializing and it makes me feel kind of alone and stagnant both online and offline. When I was younger and had just started transitioning, I posted on instagram a lot and built a community that way and I just... really miss that. Anyway, it's cool to watch a creator like you reflect on where you started! It's inspiring and helps me remember that I have the ability to just start creating whenever I want to :)
Yeah I'm definitely very grateful for how TH-cam let me start to build those connections! It made me more confident in my transness and more able to build irl relationships when the opportunity came. You should go for it!

In one of your old videos, you mentioned that you felt very strongly about wanting to end up with a fellow economist as a long-term romantic partner. Has that changed as your friend group has widened? I'm getting a doctorate as well and honestly, these days I think it'd be ideal to meet someone outside the incestuous university sphere, lol
Yup that's exactly what happened. I feel the same about the reasons that led me to believe I wanted to end up with an economist, I just have a different conclusion. I wanted someone who would fit in with my friends and community, who would respect the intensity with which I approached my work, and who had similar values to me. At one point in my life, the only kind of person who could fit those requirements was an economist, but now that my community is broader that's absolutely not the case. I've also grown to appreciate that dating someone "outside the incestuous university sphere" has led me have better work-life balance. Less talking about work at social gatherings, more people to meet, and more reason to try and stick to a 9-to-5.
