I am picking up a mini for $100 today so i shall consider this mod. I currently have the Rocky doserless, so it will be interesting to see the difference.
Exactly! I feel that my Sette 270 is about to break down at any moment and was amazed at the build quality of the Mazzers. What SSP burrs would you reccomend for the mini?
Given the prices of the 270Wi (~700) and Niche (~1200) in Aus, this is interesting to those of us who unwisely spent most of their budget on a machine. Thanks!
Would you know that they’re more consistent. The sette seems to be inconsistent from the things I’m seeing/ reading and what’s the point of talking about the niche when you can’t really buy it. Also a secondhand mazzer you can pick up for less than £100 here. The mod is £100. That’s less than half the price of the others. So unless you jump up to 1.5-2k Mark then there doesn’t seem like other similar options.
So in one afternoon I have watched both your videos about this product (and your comparison with the Zero Hoon)! For me this old school Mazzer with the doserless mod is a perfect fit. Thank you very much for your efforts. I am eBay shopping as I type.
I wouldn't be as hard on your mill as you are. Coffee IS a terrible mess in general, I don't recommend espresso to anyone who doesn't like to clean. The EK43 is one of the most popular grinders, but it is one of the most messy. That doesn't mean anything. Don't forget that you have a professional machine, you will probably die before the motor, you can easily change the burrs for a reasonable price.This is not the case with the niche for example. Their design is simple. This is a real asset in a commercial environment, you reduce the number of breakdowns and fragility. The proof is that you could even modify it easily. You don't realize that coffee is a horrible environment for machines. Dust and water. Take a good look at the coffee shops, the baristas always have a cloth in their hand. Love your machine, it is beautiful and reliable. You have a part of the history of coffee in your hands. This is not the case with the niche for example. In spite of all that can be said about the niche, it will never be worth in my eyes a good old reliable grinder (Eureka, Mazzer, etc...) with the customization that can now be found everywhere on the internet and especially SSP burrs that improve in an extraordinary way the quality of grinding, that even a niche can't match. But installing SSP wheels requires a strong motor and a heavy casing so that it doesn't move too much. This is something that can only be found on this kind of mill. Love your machine, it looks like you and it is beautiful =D - Words from a guy whose friends are selling their Niche.
I did a whole mod with the funnel cap and rocket plunger ... never looking back. it's AMAZING. $180 for the doser set with rubber plunger pump, dosing cup and hopper cap ... best deal going easy install and cleaning! I own conical and flat bur grinders ... they tend to be more specific to certain beans ... many beans benefit from flat burs vs conical.
SSP only makes the Multipurpose Burr in 58mm, not the High Uniformity for Espresso. Good if you drink a lot of brewed coffee, but sub-optimal for espresso.

Dude add some SPP burrs on your mini and it’s a battleship. Baratza Sette is junk. I wish I could return the one I have.

Perfect solution if you want flat single doser for cheap, I have one mounted on Major and other on Royal

I had to cut two cords to remove old doser in order to add new one, similar to yours. Now grinder doesn’t turn on. Was I not suppose to do that?
You probably need to jump them instead of just cutting since they go to a sensor on the old chute.
Is Fiorenzato F5 be compatible with this mod?
