I duno if they could actually pull off a decent working cyberpsycho system tbh.
They have changed it slightly in RED, (you don't loose points for installing 'medical grade cyberware' to replace damaged parts of yourself anymore) it relied on two things. Your 'Empathy' score and how much 'humanity cost' an item of cyberware cost you to install.
Some were 'VERY LOW' and others, 'VERY HIGH', each with a corresponding point cost.
For every ten points of Humanity Cost, the character loses one point of Empathy.(unequal values are rounded down)
Loose too much empathy and bingo, you end up in trouble.
3, you are somewhat emotionless and cold.
2, you get chilly, forbidding and distinctly unpleasant to others.
When ya get to 1 point left in Empathy, the character is usually violent, sociopathic and vicious, having to constantly fight to keep from going over the edge and committing irrational, violent acts of murder and mayhem.
(From the 2nd edition 2020 sourcebook)
Tbh, I can't see a good way to implement this properly in the game (console/PC game I mean)
Sure, your characters dialogue could alter to reflect the new personality style (think the difference between Paragon and Renegade dialogue in the Mass Effect games) but its the actual point at which your character hits 0 Empathy that's hard to do.
Say you get a temporary delay in hitting 0 points after installing that last, new Cyberdeck.....
Do we (player) hear our character start to scream as they stand on the sidewalk, then get a fade to black with sounds of victims panicking and the wet sound of tearing flesh, as your character pops their psycho-cherry and goes all MDK on the poor gonks next to you?
Because that's what happens in the tabletop.
You hit 0, and your GM takes the character off the player, keeps their character sheet and the character becomes a GM controlled NPC, to be hunted down by the party perhaps at a later time.
Guess that could work if they rigged the Empathy hitting zero to act like a character death...
'Would you like to reload from your last save, Dave?'
      Lol.
You would quickly learn that when auto-save turned off, and you couldn't manual save, your cyberpsycho time was tickin.

David had the rocket launcher, not the gorrilla arms. He just had big arms because he got them from Maine, who was probably an Animal. Maines girlfriend had the gorilla arms. David also had synth lungs, we saw them be installed which is missing from the build. He should also have the synaptic accelerator and kerenzikov as his nervous system because we can see them installed on his back with his sandy. He also does use pistols, we see him use them constantly thru the show, so a smart link and a Kurasawa.

About the cyberpsychosis thing. In the ttrpg there's a mechanic where you have to make a saving roll against increasing odds every time you install more chrome, once you lose that character becomes an NPC that'll usually end up hostile to the players. CPs is treated differently, they don't necessarily become insane massmurderers but more like actual psychopaths.
Anyway, a similar mechanic where you essentially have to beat your own, or other players, build could probably be made in a pretty cool way.

Cyberpsychosis isn't purely treated as only insane massmurderers in the show, either. Neither Maine nor David present that way while other characters like James Norris and the random cyberpsycho that killed Pilar do display the experience of cyberpsychosis you're referring to. The more violent form of cyberpsychosis is just showed off more often because the type of people who go into the work David does or the type people in that work are more likely to interact with are the type to more often present that way after losing their humanity, because cyberpsychosis mimics aspects of a person's personality that were already there.

We'll never see V in another other media than a game. V is highly customised to the player, and if they made a "canon" version of V, it would annoy the vast majority of players who took literal hours constructing their character. They could, however, introduce characters from the anime into the game, kinda making Cyberpunk an evolving world.
My one, singular hope is for CDPR to release a DLC that allows V to survive while having Johnny as a wing man without the inevitability of V being erased by the biochip. Something like they managed to stop the chip's erasure of V. That's the only reason why I didn't like any of Cyberpunk's endings.

Cyberpsychosis can be implemented just like how CDPR implemented "Toxicity" in Witcher 3 to prevent potion spamming.
They can also vary the consequences of cyberpsychosis by dividing it in stages throughout the entire game. Stage 1 being minor visual glitches, then hallucinations, then not being able to use a certain cyberware after using/spamming them for too long, to the final stage which will just be instant death. Or maybe permadeath for people who just wants a bit of more "oomph".
The issue with this entire feature is how to balance it. Some people will like the challenges that it brings to the game, while others will just outright hate it cause it doesn't let them freely use their cyberwares.
Edit: In Deus Ex Mankind Divided, you could overclock your augmentation/cyberware to get more damage and functionality out of it, but that adversely effects the stability of other augmentations in the body and might even lead to a complete burnout/death. So, it was always a gamble. I expect cyberpsychosis to be kinda be the same.

I did this before even seeing edge runners, I thought it was amazing being able to terrorize drivers into wrecking because they literally couldn't get away from me despite their top speeds being well over 150 mph, even while they're putting the pedal to the metal. It trivializes combat, but not in a boring way, and trying different tactics and combinations of weapons and perks with different perk choices, it becomes fun again. I really appreciate how it makes crossing the map on foot less boring as well. You can pair it with a good korenzikov or get a good mitigation build going with a legendary neofiber that becomes usable at the same reflexes skill level. The only issue is that it's not always possible to find the blueprints for a legendary heatsink, which is how you get the cool down so low, alongside legendary bioconductors. I pair it with the optical camo and it basically lets me just go mach 2 through every stealth section in the game. The enemies physically can't spot you fast enough even when visible, and even in the rare case they can, carry scalpel with you for that sweet crit shredder. It's imo the best weapon to pair with this build, as the sandevistan being active boosts the damage and the crit chance. Combine that with good aim and a triple headshot damage lens setup, and you're pretty much golden. I use deathbolt, speed daemon, the heal on kill implant (legendary if I bother putting the reflexes all the way up to 20) and just mince meat anything that moves. Even under a hail of fire from every direction from all sorts of enemies, turrets, gangoons, and maxtac, on very hard, it's easy breezy. Use a legendary biomon, second heart, and legendary bioconductors to really crank that survivability up to max if you want. Makes it almost impossible to die if you're paying attention and actually playing well.

This also carried over to the beginning of chapter two. I ended up looting a Dynalar Sandevistan MK.3. Now on the surface it doesn’t sound that good but then I checked the specs. It was kind of op. It slows time by 50% for 16 sec with a cool down of 15 secs. It has two mod slots and that was the baseline. So it’s possible to get even longer time duration and less cooldown. The problem there is, they painted emselves into a corner so to speak. Cyberware was easy to get in the golden years before 2023. The 2010's to 2020's had a massive amount of choice. You could do or *BE* anyone or anything, if you had the Eddies and the Empathy/Humanity to spare lol.
Then the Red hit, ten years of red skies and a tanking economy and well....thats the reason so many of the npc's have crappy old cyberware. Things started to look up after 2045, but tech is still mostly out of reach of the average choom unless they sign with the big Corpo's or hit it big.
If they wanted to go big on cyberware again, they would need to jump a chunk of years to make sense really.
Personally, I think we'd be looking at 'Cyberpunk 2099' for the bare minimum.... Can get some decent upgrades done in 22 years, with the right motivations (in lore ones I mean)

If i remember correctly, body came first since it was so painfull to level, that's why you put all your starter points into body. Reflexes next and cool last.

That's kinda the same across all RPGs (with the exception of the Skyrim Stealth Archer, that's OP from the start). Building up this build, or any character really, to the point they're truly dangerous *is* the game. You gotta struggle through it all to get to the point where you can blink and wipe out a whole gang hideout or bash their heads in within a second. Then the reward for all that time is feeling like an overpowered human weapon, and it feels good because it took 30 odd hours to get there.
It's a nice, natural progression. V starts out getting their ass kicked for a dozen hours, develops their skills and equipment over a long time until they're unstoppable. It's why being a maxxed out netrunner isn't boring, it looks like just tapping a couple quickhacks from a distance and zero gameplay but it feels so good to get wrecked by some gang hideout in the early game and come back and watch their leader blow his own head off

Imagine a corpo playthorugh where you manage to pull strings so well you wind up on top and Saburo is consigned to digital oblivion where he belongs. or a Streetkid path where you build a full crew like David did.(or perhaps join/take over one of the gangs..Judy's story leaves a prime opening for you to take over the Tyger Claws, for instance.) or Nomad where you wind up interacting with the remnants of your old clan a bit more. People keep saying they want Cyberpsychosis (not to mention the lore reason for it now is officially major trauma(s) and/or the system beating the people down/utterly failing them) in game for your character but all the suggestions I see sound like a cool gimmick at first and major annoyances that take control away from the player the rest of the time. I think it's much harder to design a mechanic like that in a game that is actually fun and engaging versus an anime. Taking control away from the player in a game where we pretty much have control 99% of the time would be a bad decision.

I think the reason we haven't gotten a cyberpsychosis mechanic yet is because how it functions in the ttrpg. Basically, whenever you get an implant, whether in-play or during character creation, you roll against a difficulty challenge determined by the implant (and your psychosis level depending how far along you are). If it gets too high you become an NPC controlled by the GM because there's no coming back. It would essentially be a game breaking mechanic or a limited one, which is probably why some cyberware has a minimum skill or level requirement.

    Don't count on them including cyberpsychosis as a mechanic ever, for a few reasons;
    1. It's backwards game design. Imagine if you got a perk in game that actually debuffed you. You wouldn't get that perk. Make it so implants can make you go cyberpsycho and you essentially ruin your chance at completing the game, and you turn your cool cybernetic upgrades into pointless items that no one uses until they're done with their save and decide "okay, I can throw this save away".
    2. With some of the stuff in 2077, CDPR could possibly be implying that cyberpsychosis isn't a result of too many implants, but something else entirely. AIs possessing people and aliens and shit like that.
    3. Keep in mind that we are V in 2077. V, throughout most of the game, doesn't have just one brain in his body. He has Johnny's, too. Johnny's presence in V's brain could have acted as a "blocker" for the cyberpsychosis due to it having a different "mind" or personality to attack other than V's, but since it's digitized, it can't corrode and break down in the same way a human psyche would. Considering the crazy exoskeleton at the end of the anime, it's possible that Arasaka designed the Relic so that individuals with high compatibility, like David, Smasher, or any number of children that they've bred and trained, can use crazy powerful exoskeletons like David's and still re-attach to normal limbs after with zero risk of cyberpsychosis.

    • @helplmchoking

Yeah I think cyberpsychosis probably isn't a big deal when you've got a chip actively rewriting your physical brain and replacing you with a totally different person. I don't want to lose double jumping, quickhack capacity, active camo etc. because the game screws me if I have it all

Dunno... Bit of a wasted opportunity, a phrase too often said when discussing Cyberpunk 2077 :(

@@ozalduin4383 That's why I said 'most likely'. We don't know for sure but it would serve as a good explanation. We know the chip regenerates the brain damage from Dexter Deshawn's bullet and starts rebuilding V's brain to turn V into Johnny, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say it also repairs any damage caused by overloading on cybernetics.

@@spazmagoog well might be or it might be something we still haven't got any info but might get in the dlc. but its a good opinion! I still think V themselves and their background is important in this subject which in Cyberpunk universe people most likely to get their one path to be master like netrunner or their tank build or whatever like we see in the anime. But V mix them and overload themselves with so many stuff even with stuff they carry. I know its the RPG element of the game but from what we have seen CDPR does this kinda job with characters like little details then the big boom. Like the David Martinez drink then you know anime's ending slowly or etc etc.

If anyone really want a real challenge with this setup, try raiding the South border checkpoint on VH difficulty - there's probably two dozens of border partol soldiers (more may spawn as you raid) each as strong as a MaxTec op with tens of mounted turrets and droneships hovering around.

He's directly responsible for his mother's death, his friends deaths and innocent bystanders deaths. Never learns, is always selfish, and barely reliable. He's constantly warned of the dangers of cyberpsychosis yet opts to rip the arms off his friend mid explosion at the end of one episode and becomes a psycho first thing the next episode. A whiny brat full of self pity wanting revenge for his mother (or something, it's never really that clear) but becoming a murderer himself and directly orphaning a child when psyching out on an innocent bystander.

You can activate it and run past guards’ faces when sneaking and they won’t notice you were there and in combat you can watch your bullets slowly travel through the air towards your nearly immobile enemies

Half the reason I loved the show, is a Sandy build with guirella arms (and cold blooded, but I did handguns not blades, cause I liked quick drawing and head shotting with overtures) was one of the first builds I did when the game came out. So when I saw the in game BD and the show I was like "That's my style yo!"
